Re: Ghost devices after a BMR of Windows2000
Error Message When You Try to Set an IP Address on a Network Adapter The information in this article applies to: Microsoft Windows 2000 Server Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional This article was previously published under Q269155 SYMPTOMS When you trying to set the IP address on a network adapter, you may receive the following error message: The IP address XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX you have entered for this network adapter is already assigned to another adapter Name of adapter. Name of adapter is hidden from the network and Dial-up Connections folder because it is not physically in the computer or is a legacy adapter that is not working. If the same address is assigned to both adapters and they become active, only one of them will use this address. This may result in incorrect system configuration. Do you want to enter a different IP address for this adapter in the list of IP addresses in the advanced dialog box? Where XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is the IP address that you are trying to set and Name of adapter is the name of the network adapter that is present in the registry but hidden in Device Manager. If you click Yes, you see the TCP/IP properties where you can change the IP address to something different for the currently showing network adapter in Device Manager. If you click No, the IP address is assigned to the network adapter. Note that if you click No, the selected network adapter in Device Manager and the ghosted network adapter have the same IP address. In most cases, this does not cause any problems because the driver is disabled. CAUSE A network adapter with the same IP address is in the registry but is hidden in Device Manager. This can occur when you move a network card from one PCI slot to another PCI slot. RESOLUTION To resolve this problem, uninstall the ghosted network adapter from the registry: Click Start, click Run, type cmd.exe, and then press ENTER. Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1, and then press ENTER. Type Start DEVMGMT.MSC, and then press ENTER. Click View, and then click Show Hidden Devices. Expand the Network Adapters tree. Right-click the dimmed network adapter, and then click Uninstall. -Original Message- From: Chris Murphy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: July 14, 2003 5:32 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:Re: Ghost devices after a BMR of Windows2000 Anyone run into similar situations like this wiht BMR to different hardware? We ended up searching the registry for the adapter string and deleteing all those keys. Not pretty, but it worked. Hi Bill, Are you using Intel Pro1000 NIC's in the server(s)? If so, installing the ProSet 2 utilitity cleared this up for us. It will show the old adapter and allow you to remove it gracefully. We saw the same issue, but it was on a different backup product (not TSM). If you are not using Intel NIC's, then maybe a similar utility exists for yours? Re: StorageTek L700E library TSM question
Hi, I had a similar problem; I have to update the firmware of the bridge because of a SCSI command that was not handled by that version. JET -Original Message- From: Spearman, Wayne [mailto:wmspearman;NOVANTHEALTH.ORG] Sent: November 5, 2002 10:00 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject:StorageTek L700E library TSM question Hi All, We have a new STK L700e LTO tape library attached to a new AIX TSM server. We are not running ACLS on the library. I can't get the library to accept tapes via the Cartridge Access Point (CAP). We open the door, place a tape in the slot, close the door, and run the checkin command specifying BULK. The process ends in a failure. The robot never looks at the CAP. When we put the tape in the CAP, the robot never inventories the CAP. I find this odd as our IBM 3494 tape libraries always check the CAP when the door is opened to see what has happened. STK support says their library doesn't do this. STK support says TSM has to tell the robot to go check the CAP. I can't find anything in the TSM books that supports this. The STK web GUI never shows tapes in the CAP either. Can anyone help with this dilemma? Re: DUAL WRITE in TSM 5.1
HI According to the Admin Guide: Support for Simultaneous Writes to Primary and Copy Storage Pools You can specify copy storage pools in a primary storage pool definition. When a client backs up, archives, or migrates a file, the file is written to the primary storage pool and is simultaneously stored into each copy storage pool. Tait -Original Message- From: Seay, Paul [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Sunday, March 24, 2002 10:49 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Re: TDP R/3 Versioning and Off-site Vaulting The only way that I can think of is to create 2 onsite primary pools and change the management classes before each backup to what you want it to be. Unfortunately, that means the init[SID].utl file has to be different for each primary pool and you will have to do some switching of the file right before each backup. What I would do is create is an init[SID].utloff and an init[SID].utlon and copy it to the init[SID].utl right before the BRBACKUP. Remember, though that the restores do not care about this. TSM will just go get the data whereeever it is. But, it will care about the archive management class used for BRARCHIVE. I would not try to do this with it. I am not an expert in this area, but it is a way to accomplish what you are trying. Ultimately, you have to get the backup you want to copy and send offsite to a different primary storage pool. So that only it is copied and sent offsite. -Original Message- From: Tait, Joel [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, March 22, 2002 2:48 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: TDP R/3 Versioning and Off-site Vaulting Hi Does anyone have any idea's of how to use copy pools to take only 1 SAP DB Backup version off-site every week?
