SAP R/3 on a SAN

2001-10-24 Thread Tectrade Computers

Good Day

I have a customer with a Large SAP R/3 Environment running on Windows NT in
excess of 500GB

They have an existing TSM environment with LTO 3584 and are using the TDP
for SAP agent

The customer is looking to buy a SAN and is interested in reducing the
backup window.

My Questions are

Is anyone doing some type of SAN based backup of SAP R/3 Databases?

Can scripts be written to utilise flash/snap copy software on a SAN
subsystem?

Is there and Road Map from Tivoli to create a TDP for SAP R/3 on ESS?

Re: audit library STILL unsuccessful!

2001-03-28 Thread Tectrade Computers

Hi Marc

I have seen this before I know how to resolve it, not the easiest thing to
but will work.

1 Delete the drives from the library
2 Delete the Library
3 Recreate the library definition
4 Recreate the drives
5 Label Libv using overwrite=no
6 Checkin all Scratch volumes using search=yes
7 Checkin all Private volumes using search=yes

This will work unless there is a fault with the library and/or the SCSI
card.

Hi Chaps,

Its coming to that time of the year where we have to think about upgrading
our TSM server from 3.7.x to 4.1.x.

Can you please confirm what this process involves?.

I understand that we have to re-define the licences, but do we also have to
re-define the library, and drives, etc?.

Anywhere where I can find out more as the docs are as usual very unhelpful.

will need to go into the node and update it with the correct URL for it

OK, so this is a stupid question, but:

When you use the Web admin interface and look at a list of nodes

(like you open Operation View, Work with Client Nodes, Update a Client
Node),

all the nodes have a little icon of a PC on the left. Some of them also
have a lightning bolt icon.

Anybody know what that lightning bolt means??
I can't find anything in error when looking at the attributes of the node.

Re: Scratch Tape Problem

2001-02-21 Thread Tectrade Computers

Hi Alan

I would say your problem is more than likely that you check your new tapes
in rather than running the label libv command. TSM would have thought that
these tapes have been previously labelled but could not read them.

You need to check them out then relabel them again

We have had some problems with a drive in our library.
After putting the tape online TSM began putting tapes in to write data.
The drive returned I/O errors and TSM responed by placing each tape in a
private status. We started receiving errors stating that there were not
enough
scratch tapes. After runing a q libvol I have discover that all tapes that
should
be in scratch (449 to be exact) are in private status.

Does anyone have a good idea on how I can get these 449 tapes back to a
scratch status.
I can run UPDATE LIBV LB10.0.0.7 CAA### STATUS=SCRATCH and restore each
tape
one by one but this takes forever. I did get enough tapes back to scratch
to be able to work
but need a faster method.

I am not familiar with writing scripts as of now. I am currently learning
to be able to automate
a few things.

Thanks,

You need to make sure that your CHECKIN commands on each server use the
VOLRANGE parameter. When you put tapes in the 3494, they are placed in the
insertion catagory and the first 'host' to grab them get them. So you could
possibly checkin serverA's tapes in for serverB and write over good data.

For my AIX TSM Server, I create a server script that has the CHECKIN
command
with all my parameters. I then schedule this in an admin schedule to run
daily after I know the operators have done tape rotation. TSM won't let you
actually schedule a checkin command, but you can imbed it in a script and
schedule the script. Also, this is the only command I run to manually check
tapes in...RUN CHECKIN (CHECKIN is my script name). This way I make sure
that I'm not going to checkin some other servers' tapes.

We use a naming convention for out tape volsers. R0-R9 is for the
AIX server, and M0-M9 is for our OS/390 systems.

I don't believe there is any way to control where in the library the
tapes are stored, at least from TSM.

I'd like some info on your configuration if you wouldn't mind. How are
the tape drives connected: do both servers connect to all drives
(physically)? How many tape drives are on one FC-AL loop?

Hi Bill

Thanks for the response it is very helpful, my next question is that when I
use the VOLRANGE parameter must it always be the entire range of tapes. And
when this is done does this completely discount the other tapes from being
included in the others checkin procedure.

In response to the other e-mail. Both Sun Servers can see all the drives
and they are attached through dual brocade switches.

3584 Issues

2001-02-01 Thread Tectrade Computers

Hi All

I have just replaced a 3575 L24 with a 3584L32 with 3 Drives.

The data migration processes have completed but from time to time i am
seeing errors from the tape devices.

I am doing a storage pool backup and after about 25GB of copying both tape
drives bring up an error and the tape that was being copied to is marked as
read only. Now all my scratch tapes have been used up. I am pretty sure the
tapes are OK because if I change there status to read/write they sometimes
get full without anymore problems.

I am not sure if it could be a SCSI problem.

Has anyone had similar problems and if so how did you resolve them
