Re: Installation of TSM on NT as the main system
we have 5 tsm servers on aix and 1 on NT. we have less problems with the one on NT. it is a smaller system but, it has been extremely reliable. Re: Include/Exclude list
Jim; I had the same problem here. It appears that excludes are processed before includes. I have not found a way around this. I was trying to exclude the c:\winnt\profiles folder, but include c:\winnt\profiles\administrators, all users and default users folders. backing up these folders is a terrible waste of valuable database space. Hopefully someone can come up with another suggestion without having to recreate another dsm.opt and adsm service w/backup schedule just to backup these few folders. Good luck. The goal is to restrict backups to personal documents and Netscape browser and email settings (well the real goal is to have folks use the existing server to store files but...). We've been playing with various include and exclude arrangements and have noticed some interesting behavior. We can get it down to where we've got the desired files and folders backed up using the list below: Include "C:\Documents & Settings\XXX\My Documents\XXX\*.*" Include "C:\Documents & Settings\XXX\My Documents\XXX\*" Include "C:\Documents & Settings\XXX\My Documents\XXX\...\*" Include "C:\Documents & Settings\XXX\My Documents\XXX\...\*.*" Include "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\*.*" Include "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\*" Include "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\...\*" Include "C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\default\...\*.*" Exclude.dir "C:\Program Files\Netscape\users\default\cache" Now, if I put Exclude "?:*" at the top of this list, no other files on the disk are backed up but the directory structure is. Not terrible from a space standpoint but could be pretty confusing for a user trying to restore something. If, however I make the top (last) statement Exclude.dir "?:*" then nothing but files at the root of C: are backup up !? In other words it overrides all the include statements below it, what's up with that? Any suggestions other than a whole slew of exclude.dir statements? What I really need is a global exclude after processing the includes. HSM for Windows NT
We are considering implementing a HSM solution to clean up disk space across approx 850 NT servers. I am looking for information about the various available software packages. I know there are several alternatives on the market. Has anyone implemented a HSM solution? If so, what program did you use/try out and what are your results. satisfied ? what kind of disk reclamation did you see after implementation. Re: Accessing multiple severs from NT
the easiest way is to set up multiple opt files. The before you access each ADSM Server, execute the following command set dsm_config=c:\win32app\ibm\adsm\saclient\satadsm1.opt we have 6 adsm servers and it saves our butt when running scripts. Re: Backup over WAN
We back up a large number of servers across wan links. With no other activity we can expect approx 1 gig per hr through the T1 link. The only problem is the initial Full backup. The file compression actually helps a considerable amount across the wan link. i have shortened some of my backups by 4 hrs using the client compression. HSM with TSM 4.1
I appears that HSM is still not suppoted for NT clients. Does IBM/Tivoli still believe that the open systems environment is a passing fad?? From looking at the website, I was not able to find anything stating that HSM was supported for NT. Looks like we have to consider another source for HSM functionality. Guess it will be ready by TSM 9.1. If anyone knows differently, then please let me know. Re: HSM on NT/Netware?
You can try OTG's DiskXtender. I have been considering looking at it myself. But was hoping that TSM 4.1 would support it.
