Re: Checkin multiple tapes to 3494 library

2003-02-25 Thread Trinh, Tony
Tommy,

Yup, the easiest way that I found to check in multiple new volumes to a 3494
library is creating a text file like below. Then log in to TSM and run a
macro against that file...show below too... Hopefully these tapes have
already been formatted.

$ more checkin
checkin libv ids01atl1 1a1321 devt=3590 status=scratch
checkin libv ids01atl1 1a1323 devt=3590 status=scratch
checkin libv ids01atl1 1a1330 devt=3590 status=scratch
checkin libv ids01atl1 1a1331 devt=3590 status=scratch
checkin libv ids01atl1 1a1334 devt=3590 status=scratch

Hi *SM'ers

Is there a way to check in multiple new volumes (with barcodes) to a 3494
library as scratch?

Re: 3494 and tapes question.

2003-01-15 Thread Trinh, Tony
Hi Minns,

We are currently doing that. Taking tapes out of the library and leave them
onsite for restore purposes but it's a pain to place the tape back into the
library to perform the restore. The data may reside on multiple tapes.

Are you running reclaimation on your onsite tapes? If you are, try to run it
more regularly after your maintenance but before your backup schedules.

Hopefully this help

Regards,
Tony

Subject: 3494 and tapes question.

Hi TSMers

I am looking at what to do in the next year or so when our tape library
becomes full. Baring in mind that we don't do much in the way of restores
(most backups are for DR), is it feasible to remove tapes from the library
and just keep them on site in case they are requested for a restore,
reclamation etc. Does anyone out there do this kind of thing and how does
it work for you?

Thanks all

Data expiration from the tapes on the daily process

Does anyone know is the data expired off of a tape if the live data tapes
reside outside of the library when expiration ran daily?

Re: help:adsm check out question

2002-09-25 Thread Trinh, Tony

Feng,

When you checking out the tapes...I have nothing to do with the drive...The
drives will continue to run
It backup...The robot will move the tapes out of the library after you run
the commands...

Remember, these are live data tapes...(Which means there are data still on
these tapes) Lock them up
Somewhere safe...when you are ready to check them in or when the TSM
application request for it for
A restore, migration or reclaiming the data from the tape...You will need to
check it back in...

The command to check these tapes in are:

ADSMcheckin libv devt=3590 status=private

() your library name
() the tapes volume
Devt= (depends on what you are using)
