 Adrie,

In a nutshell, the error that you are seeing from the sbtio.log is a
telling sign that the object name that Oracle is giving to the file for
that backup already exists on the TSM Server. Usually this is a result of
the backup_piece name that Oracle generates is very long and the part of
the name that should make the name unique is getting truncated so it looks
like a duplicate name to TDP Oracle/TSM. Without seeing your Rman script
for this backup I can only venture a guess but I think that you need to
take a little more control over how the backup pieces are being named -
you can control the naming (to a degree) that Rman/Oracle uses for it's
backup_pieces, see the Rman User's guide on this subject.

 Oracle TDPO error SBT 2175

 Dear Oracle and TSM specialists,

We are trying to backup an Oracle database with Oracle TDPO for HP-UX.
Installation as mentioned in the manual.
We created a seperate tdpo node with backdelete yes.
rman script works when creating files.
When backing up to the TSM server we get the following error from the TDP:
 SBT-2175 08/04/2004 13:45:58 send2.cpp(650): sbtbackup(): Exit -
 tdpoQueryObj() failed. dsmHandle = 1, rc = 8

The log in TSM server does not show (me) problems, a connection from the
 TDP
is made and data is sent. After that the connection is closed.

What can be the problem here? TDPO logs and server logs added.

 Thanks,
 Adrie

Re: Restore MS Exchange to another server

2004-03-24 Thread Tuyl Adrie, A.C. van
Exchange needs the same hostname of the original server to start when fully
restored.
If you restore the mail to a server in the same network (to restore a single
emailbox) you off course install the server to a server with a different
hostname.
You then only restore the Information store.
The procedure is written in detail in the exchange redbook

Short:
Install exchange server with the same version as production server
Create a new site with the same organization and site name as used on the
production server.
DO NOT JOIN THE EXISTING SITE!
Install TDP EXC
Restore ONLY the Information store
Run the DS/IS consistency adjuster from the Exchange Administrator
program. The utility is found under the advanced tab on the Server
properties sheet. Select all the Operation options and All
inconsistencies

Now if all goes well you can start Exchange.

Onderwerp:Restore MS Exchange to another server

 Hello team,

My environment is using MS Exchange 5.5 with TSM 5.2 and TSM for Mail 5.2.
I would like to backup the existing exchange server and restore to another
server. I am not a MS Exchange guru, so I need your advise here.

I have a production Exchange with hostname ABC. I setup another Exchange
 with hostname EFG.
I followed Appendix C of the user manual of TSM for Mail to do a full
backup of Exch 5.5, restore it to EFG
Then shutdown ABC, change the hostname of EFG to ABC and reboot.
After reboot, MS exchange is not able to start. I found out Exchange
 Information Store cannot be started.

Am I missing any step here ?

 Thanks Regards
 William

Re: TSM administration through web gui

2004-02-04 Thread Tuyl Adrie, A.C. van
What I noticed is when I installed the server as a standalone server,
without pointing to a dns server, the access to the web gui went fine.
The moment I added in the tsm server config the dns server, the problem
appeared.
That is what made me look towards the dns configuration. (after adding the
reverse lookup zone and checking the add PTR record checkbox in dns, the
problem disappeared, but you already know that)
What you can try is : remove the dns server from the domain, remove the dns
from the tcp/ip configuration of the tsm server and see if the problem
persists...

We also got this strange problem. The funniest thing is, that after the
upgrade from 5.1.6.1 to 5.2.1.3 we got the problem . So maybe a 5.2
 related
 problem on windows server ?
What I found out was , that when I disabled all backup Lan adaptors ( only
enabled the production network card), the web console was fast, but after
enabling the backup lan adaptors, the web console performance went slow
 again.

I tested DNS and that is working ok . PTR records, etc also the lmhosts
 file..
Maybe somebody else got a clue ?

You can try adding the testflag DISABLENQR in your optfile (for this restore
add the line 'TESTFLAG DISABLENQR' in your optfile).
This way TSM won't try the 'No query restore' and maybe it will give you
more information about why the restore could not be performed, or even do
the restore correctly.

downward compatibility clients / server v 5.2

2003-09-02 Thread Tuyl Adrie, A.C. van
To what level downwards are clients compatible to server version 5.2?
(I can't seem to find that in the readme's / references (or I am looking in
the wrong place in which case I would like to be pointed in the right
direction ;-)

We are planning for a server upgrade (windows) from level 4.2.2.6, to 5.2 or
5.1 but we need to have some 4.2 clients staying on the 4.2 level.
Is this possible / advisable? Or is it better to go to 5.1.7.2?

Are there already experiences from 5.2 in a production environment?

 Subject: days in scripting

 Hi all,

We have a daily tsm script which checks for missed backups, missed events,
filesystems backupped longer then 24 hours ago etc.
Weekends we do not backup all of our servers, so the check should be for
last friday and not for sunday.
Is there a way to implement the current day and do a jump depending on the
 current day?

 For instance:

 if 'today=monday' goto
 q ev * * begind=-3
 else
 q ev * * begind=-1

 Thanks,
 Adrie

Re: File scan takes ages during backup

2003-03-25 Thread Tuyl Adrie, A.C. van
Hi Richard,

Your absolutely right about changing some values and check the effect.
Yesterday I only changed the NotifyBuffer to
NotifyBufferSize=0x0040
but this night it crashed again...
jbberror.log:
03/25/2003 01:16:54 Error updating the journal for fs D:, rc = -1, errno =
27
03/25/2003 01:16:56 JbbMonitorThread(): DB Access thread, tid 469 ended with
return code 215.

Strangest thing is that it crashed during night, during backup of that
filesystem (backup of this drive takes from 23:00 to 04:04)
So I wondered about the other value and what is was for and if it can do any
harm (i.e. miss a backup when actually the file has changed).

Kind regards,
Adrie van Tuyl

So, attribute changes (0x0004) are now not notified...
Is this due to a virus checking application?

My memory isn't exact (it's old age creeping on, probably), but yes, I
think it was because of the virus check. Whatever the reason, it doesn't
 seem to harm us.

 But my main points were
 1) it's the memory size that is most important
 2) you can also cut down on notifications as well

You must always check for yourself to see if changing a value will have a
 bad effect in your environment.

Our environment is a *very* stable server (basically, it's just a load of
online reference documents). And the few changes that do take place are
 not
critical - in the extreme, we can always recreate the server from other
sources. Thus we do not care too much if we miss a few changes. But not
 everyone will want that.

Correct me if I am wrong, but:
standard filter setting is 0x0117
IBM support asked you to change it to 0x0113
So, attribute changes (0x0004) are now not notified...
Is this due to a virus checking application?

From the tsmjbbd.ini file where the client is installed:

 Al

You asked Geoff, but I'll reply :)

Did IBM say why the notifyfilter parameter was significant? I'm
  curious what that controls.

If I remember correctly, IBM said that it controls exactly which events
 get
notified to the journal service. If your journal buffer is filling up, you
want to cut out unnecessary events. But I can't remember where they define
which bit corresponds to which event.

statistics about active and inactive data

2003-02-26 Thread Tuyl Adrie, A.C. van
Hi,

Is there a safe way of displaying the amount of active data and inactive
data of a node?

In the BACKUPS table the state of an abject is stored, but not the size of
the object.
Besides that I don't think a (joined) select on the BACKUPS table is a good
idea considering the amount of data in this table.
Anyone an idea?

Thanks,
Adrie

Re: Backup Files and directories over than 255 characters

2003-01-30 Thread Tuyl Adrie, A.C. van
Hi,

This usally happens when you move a directory where an already long named
file resides (but not yet at the limit) some directories deeper.
The filesystem actually permits you to move the directory, it is only a
change of a mountpoint of that directory, but the file itself grows beyond
the limits of the NT filesystem.
Good change you cannot read the file now or change it's name at its actual
place and state!

You could move the directory in which the file resides to a higher level,
than rename the file, and move the directory back to its original place

Good luck!
Adrie

Subject: restoring exchange in seperate environment

 Hi Storage experts,

What is the safest way to restore an exchange server in a seperate
environment (to extract one mailbox for instance).
My Exchange Administrator doesn't have full confidence that the method
described in the manual, i.e. restoring in the same domain, but without
joining an existing site is safe. He's afraid of double connectors, double
mail etc, double servers in the site etc.

Do you have any experience with this?

Is there a method of restoring only the edb's and tracking log file's?
