Re: Restoring to different node using administrative TSM-ID

2001-11-14 Thread Yanki Yuksel

Couple options include the following:

1. You can actually map a network drive on the original node to the new
node you want to restore to. Then during the restore, you can pick a
location and select the mapped drive.

2. You can go to the new node you want to restore to, and in the dsm.opt
file you can change the node name to that of the old one, this way, when
the GUI starts up, it will think that it is the original node. Mind you,
you will still need to pick a different location to restore to unless you
have the drives partitioned off exactly the same.

Hope this helps,

Yanki

I looked at this for 2 hours the other night and could not find a way to do
it through the GUI. So, it will be interesting what the answer is.

Subject: Restoring to different node using administrative TSM-ID

Hi,

i need to restore files to a different tsm-node ,than the data has
been backed up with.
Using the gui, there is the option logon, where I can specify
the concerned source-tsm-node and my administrative TSM-ID,
for authenticating with/to the tsm-server. I have to use my ID because
of the passwordaccess generate-setting in the client-options-file, so
I do not know the passwords of the client-nodes. Using this way,
everything works fine.
The question is: How can I initiate this login-process using
the command-line I would like to simplify this process
for backup-operators, so that it is only necessary to enter
the administrative TSM-ID and password. The node-name
should have been set using a dsm.exe - paramater.
i.e.: dsm -loginid=userid -virtualnodename=sourcemachine

Is there an undocumented feature that solves my problem?
(or is it documented and I haven't found it?)

Thanks in advance!

Having a little trouble with a simple SQL Query - Please help!

2001-09-21 Thread Yanki Yuksel

Hi guys,

I have typed this query, which works fine, but I need to be able to do
more. First off here is the select command :

select distinct entity as Node, activity as Activity, start_time
as Start, end_time as End, affected as Files_Backed_up, bytes as
Total_Bytes fro
m summary where activity = 'BACKUP'

What I would like to do is also group this by the entity so that I
basically only receive one instance of the node. Plus I would like to be
able to select only the information that pertains to current day - 1
(yesterday).

If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. I have tried to add the
group by entity after the where statement but it tells me that I cannot
have the activity, start_time, end_time, affected and bytes columns in the
query unless I place them within an aggregate function.

Thank you,

Re: Disappearing Tapes

2001-08-30 Thread Yanki Yuksel

Are you also sending out your database backup tapes? If so, do you have a
schedule in place that regularly deletes old database volumes? If you do,
this would explain your situation.

If you send a database volume offsite, it will not show up in a query
volume or query libvolume command. The only way to see them is to query
the volhistory. If you have a scheduled clean up of the database volumes ,
they will be automatically deleted from the volhistory (The only way to
delete a DB volume). This will result in tapes being kept at the off site
vault with no records left to identify them.

I hope this helps.

We conducted an audit on our off site tapes today and found that while all
of the tapes in Vault status were at the storage facility, there were many
tapes there (physically) that were not on our list and therefore, not in
vault status. When we query these tapes in the system there is 'No match
found'. We have very good checks and balances with the vendor...all tapes
are verified coming in and going out so it appears as if the tapes have
just disappeared from TSM. Any ideas?

Re: How would I archive given the following setup?

2001-08-29 Thread Yanki Yuksel

I have thought of this but just wondering if it will stop execution if a
file space does not exist. for example :

c:\* d:\* e:\*f:\*

and on one server there is no e:\* or f:\* would that cause any problems?

The other idea I have had is to create backup sets every month for each
server.

I think the backup sets might be easier to maintain. Would you agree?

Thanks,

Yanki

Yanki,

1. Set Retain Version property of Archive copy group in a MGMT class to
365 Days.
2. Activate policy set.
3. Create a new schedule which will run every month and set following
properties
Action: Archive
   Options: -archm=x -subdir=yes
   Objects: c:\* d:\* e:\* or /fs1/*
3. Associate new schedule with nodes you want to retain archives for 1 yr.
4. From client side run dsmc q sched it should show next execution time.

How would I archive given the following setup?

2001-08-28 Thread Yanki Yuksel

Hi everyone,

I'm a little confused with the scheduling of archiving.

I have one primary pool and one copy pool. Currently the copy pool is
being sent offsite.

Our issue is that our policy is to keep 5 versions of all active files and
this is not good enough for the users. They would like an archive to be
performed for all of our servers (30+) on a monthly basis and would like
these archives to be retained for 1 year each. Basically if I do an
archive for August this year, that archive will be retained until August of
next year.

I am a little confused as to how I am to accomplish this.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you
