This is similar to your plan of moving to a new tape library and we kept the same model library and you are doing the same as well. You could move the LTO-5 tapes to your new TS3200 library and just update TSM to use the new library. Here are the steps we used: After IBM was done with the frame swap out we did the necessary San zoning as the WWN's changed with the new frame. Then we discovered the tape drives and library control device at the OS level. Next we ran the following command to update the library definition in TSM. update library serial=AUTODETECT That command allowed us to remove the serial number from old library. Then we just updated the path for the library in TSM to the new library control point device and then TSM discovered the new library serial number and we were back in business with same library name. Since we are using the same tape drives we only had to update the device in the tape drive paths in TSM. But you would have to delete the LTO-5 tape drives and add the new LTO-7 drives in TSM. Next we ran an audit on the library and then TSM was back in sync with the tape library. So for your case I would perform the following after you have discovered the new library at the operating system level: 1. Remove all the scratch & pending LTO-5 tapes from TSM and then update the remaining LTO-5 tapes to read-only when you are ready to start the library cut-over. 2. Move the LTO-5 tapes containing data to your new library. Turn off the old library so TSM will not discover it. What you mean "Move the LTO-5 tapes" ? To run a checkout as: checkout libvolume LTO5 xxx1 checklabel=no remove=yes 3. Run the update library command and then update the device path for the library path Meaning: update library LTO5 serial=AUTODETECT and from the command: tsmdlst to see the path of the new library LTO7 . Then change the path of the old library LTO5 to the new path ? 4. Once the library is online to TSM then create your LTO-7 tape drives 4. Put a LTO-7 drive online and run an audit library Then you should be able to checkin your LTO-7 tapes and then just let the data roll off the LTO-5 tapes. Data roll off or a move data ? Hi Del Thanks for the link... So Instant restore is a regular restore but can be access after few percent restored . The instant restore is permanent and no need to do a "dismount" . Correct ? Hi to all I am now in TSM server version 7.1.7.100 on O.S Windows 2012 64B. I download the version 8.1.1.0 from passport advantage . The document said to choose the option INSTALL if moving from version 7.1.7 + to version 8 + Here from documentation page: 83 Installing V8.1 and verifying the upgrade To complete the process of upgrading the server to V8.1, you must install the V8.1 server. Then, verify that the upgrade was successful by starting the server instance. I run the INSTALL option but got this error message: Package IBM Spectrum Protect server is already installed. Only one instance of this package can be installed. To install a later version of this package , click OK , then return to Start page and select Update . TSM version 7.1.7.100 to version 8.1.0
Hi to all I run my TSM server 7.1.7.100 on an O.S Windows 2012R2 64B. I want to upgrade to version 8.1.0.0 and after it to 8.1.1.0. In my other TSM server with the same configuration , I choose the UPGRADE option , all the process gone well without any errors or warning. But at the end when tried to load the server got a lot of errors message about the DB2 ! Open an urgent PMR at IBM (21471,003,756) and after a long process of DB2 commands we succeed to load it. Now I tried to choose the INSTALL option , thinking because I move from a version 7+ to a version 8+ need to do an INSTALL. At the beginning of the process got an error message that “Package IBM Spectrum Protect server is already installed. Only one instance of this package can be installed” Any advice ! Move Data from STG pool directory to another one.
Hello all Working with TSM server version 7.1.7.0 and Directory stg pools. I have a stg pool with a large capacity and I want to create a new stg pool smaller. I wonder what will be the correct process to move the data from stg1 to stg2. Both of them are with type directory. To use MOVE CONTAINER ??? or MOVE DATA ??? or another command ? Hi to all A question to people using PROTECT STG and REPLICATE NODE what will be the best practice to use in the target side for STGPOOL One STG for the protect stg and another STG for the replicate nodes , or only one for everything ??? Hi All Thanks to all for the answers….. So this feature is working only on Linux TSM Server, so the source have to be Linus (MUST) , but did the target too ? Meaning Aspera FASP have to be install at both servers (Source / Target) to works ?
