Re: 4.1 client for Windows

2000-08-02 Thread Cris Robinson

Theoretically the 4.1 client might run on an ADSM
3.1 server, but such a configuration is UNSUPPORTED. This
means that if you try to run the 4.1 client with a 3.1 server,
it might work, but you do so at your own risk!!!
  Translation: Don't do it!

Sure, now you tell me!
I have not seen a problem , yet.

Can I run this client if my ADSM server is still at ADSM and hasn't

moved to TSM yet ? Or is this only for environments running TSM on

Erik, this isn't something new, I'm afraid. I have seen untested (read: not

Re: 4.1 client for Windows

2000-08-01 Thread Kauffman, Tom

I have to agree with this; so many of the failures seem to show up within a
day or so of real-world use. I can appreciate that the TSM staff may not
have access to all the fancy hardware, but you'd think they could at least
beat the AIX client/server code heavily before releasing it. For that
matter, I'd think that the TSM development/test group would have some kind
of arrangement with the IBM Business Recovery Services unit (the D/R
services side of IBM) for joint hardware acquisition and use.

OTOH, maybe I'm just showing my age . . .

Hm. I was running it from Windows. Tried it under Windows NT, same here.

Hm, not for me... WinZip complains about 524 bytes missing.

Now for the classic question: Did you FTP it in Binary form?
(That's the standard problem in situations like these. And
no one reporting the problem has yet specified how they
performed the download.)

Yes I did. The internal filestructure looks fine to WinZip, but you cannot

I used the directions from the file TSM410C_WINDOWS_README_FTP.htm. Here is

The extract has completed. To begin the installation,
switch to the directory you specified when you ran
this command (d:\temp), then change into the following
directory:

   TSMCLI\WIN32\BACLIENT\DISK1

From there, run the SETUP.EXE program to begin the
installation.

Unfortunately there is nothing in my Temp directory. I've tried it with
other switches as specified in the readme with the same results.

I concur, it seems to be hosed.

I downloaded via HTTP. Just trying to run it, I get the same error as first
reported (CLIDOS).

When I tried to repair it with ZIPMAGIC, it has length errors with most of
the contents. So I just delete it.

Mike - I can't say specifically. But historically, the product has
allowed using mixes of old and new clients and servers. The
one prevailing condition is that once you advance your client level,
you are committed to it because of the advanced content of the new
