Re: ADSM, throughput, and exchanging ATM for 100MB Ethernet.

2000-11-25 Thread Eugene Klaus

That depends on a number of factors. I have experienced doing backup with a
SP/widenode for 100 servers filling a 150 gig
disk pool and then migrating to tape. It was close and needed upgrade, however,
it worked. The main portion of the process to suffer was the admistrative
function that are necessary each day.+

Other possibilities are to bring up an additional server thereby doubling your
backup window.

If it is just speed your concerned with the 100mb ethernet will be running at
about 2/3 of the ATM but with the appropriate
adjustments to your schedules etc. it should work quite well.

ADSM, throughput, and exchanging ATM for 100MB Ethernet.

2000-11-22 Thread Daniel Swan-TM

This weekend, our ATM segment will be retired, and we will be falling back
on our 100MB Ethernet.

Our server is constantly doing backups, and generally carrying a high load.

Our local network architect doesn't think this will have a significant
impact, but I am unconvinced.

Does anyone out there have any thoughts one way or the other?

Any input appreciated,
Dan.
