ATL and AIT

2001-01-10 Thread Barth, Terry (MBS)

Hello Fellow *SMrs

We currently have 2 TSM servers operating on Solaris 2.6. We have 2 ATL
robots. We are looking to get a 3rd TSM server and robot.

For this robot, we are thinking of going with AIT technology for the tape
drives.

I am curious to see if anyone has this mix or has any comments on if they
would go this route or not.

Thanks.

We've done a lot of AIT. Compared to what you are used to in DLT land, you
will love it. Much faster load times and much faster data transfer rates
(Yes, I know, the specs are pretty equal, but DLT always assumes streaming
operation. TSM is more start/stop than streaming. AIT has two spindles so
start/stop is better). Also, the density is better so you can get more
slots per square foot.

Qualstar makes the broadest range of AIT Libraries. From 10 slots up to 600
with lots in between. You can't beat the value either.

Thanks,
