2-3 minutes mount and seek latency * 50? I think you're doing about
right. This is why you want to collocate to whatever extent is
possible.

You might be able to make more efficient use of multiple tape drives
by doing, for instance:

move nodedata [node] [fs] fromstg=tapes-place tostg=disk-place
maxproc=number-of-drives.

that could take some time off your restore, if you've got enough disk,
and enough drives to counteract the fact that you can't start the
restore until the move completes.

Hi All,

One of the restore I am doing is taking 3hrs to do just about half of
GB. I understand that it had to go through about 50 different tapes to
get that data, but I would still imagine that it should have been faster
than that.
The tsm server is: Windows base TSM 5.3.1 and its using ACSLS library
with 9940 tapes.

I would appreciate any advise to speed up the restore.

Thank you all in advance.

Dinesh -

You can search on gtUpdateGroupAttr
in http://www.mail-archive.com/adsm-l@vm.marist.edu/
for past discussions on this.

A fundamental problem here is that you're running a TSM client with
no maintenance - a big no-no. Go to ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/
storage/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance/ for the latest client
maintenance within your 5.2 client.

On the tsm server, I tried changing the filespace name and did the

Are there any fix available with out any upgrades.

With no details on the restoral command used or your storagepools/
filespaces configuration, we can't draw any conclusions. You might
look at topic Restoral performance in ADSM QuickFacts for a
collection of advisories based upon our collective experience.
Examine the contributors to wait time as recorded in the TSM
accounting records to see just where the time went.

ANS1304W - Active object not found

2003-11-14 Thread Amodio Mario
Hello all

On our Logs we see lots of the following messages

Errorlog
10/14/2003 22:01:19 ANS1228E Sending of object '\\server\d$tigeranim.gif'
failed
10/14/2003 22:01:19 ANS1304W Active object not found

Schedlog
10/14/2003 22:01:19 Retry # 1 Expiring-- 30,280
\\server\d$tigeranim.gif ** Unsuccessful **
10/14/2003 22:01:19 ANS1228E Sending of object '\\server\d$tigeranim.gif'
failed
10/14/2003 22:01:19 ANS1304W Active object not found

This file had never been exist on the displayed path -
\\server\d$tigeranim.gif.
The file was saved on a path thats includes some special characters and
german Umlaut, like \\server\d$\daily-save\schönbächler~\tigeranim.gif

Now, the files are deleted on the client and the error appears in the logs.

The Client and Server has TSM Version 5.1 installed.

Can anybody help. Any ideas?
Thanks a lot

ANS1304W Active object not found

Hi Everybody,
In dsmerror.log,I found :

/var/adm/perfmgr/daily/pwatds020/dustat.2003.01.28.Tue' failed
02/04/03 04:17:48 ANS1304W Active object not found

02/04/03 04:17:50 ANS1228E Sending of object
'/var/adm/perfmgr/daily/pwatds020/iostat.2003.01.27.Mon' failed
02/04/03 04:17:50 ANS1304W Active object not found

These files are periodically deleted, why TSM is taking backup of
these files, these files are not present, from where TSM takes
reference.

My client schedules are always completed.

TSM server is 4.2 level 1.15 and client level is 4.2 level 1.11 on
AIX 4.3.3.

Can anyone give solution.

ANS1304W Active object not found USEUNICODEFILENAMES YES

2002-07-25 Thread chris rees

Hi all,

Setup is TSM Server 4.1.5 running on AIX 4.3.3
TSM client is 4.2.1 on win 2000

I have been experiencing an old problem on one of our Win 2000 servers.
Basically I'm getting problems with international characters , i.e.

ANS1228E Sending of object filename failed
ANS1304W Active object not found

I've read on the newsgroup that I should set USEUNICODEFILENAMES YES but
just wondered what impact, if any this would have on files already backed up
on this node.

Regards

Chris
