You should upgrade to 4.x serious to support Unicode that has no such problems. It shouldn't. Which 4.x client are you using? For 4.1, you need to be sure that USEUNICODEFILENAMES NO is in effect. For 4.2 (be sure to use 4.2.1.20 or higher), you shouldn't be seeing the problem.
