You can also check the scanner speed.
On Storwatch, menu entry Service, Scanner Speed.
You can adjust it from 30% to 100%.
If you have problems to read barcodes, adjust it at a low value.

Thanks for your hints and suggestions, but the problem is quite simple:

the barcode labels are too sparkling, so the scanner cannot read

Reflective glare from barcode labels can often be dealt with the
judicious use of a pencil eraser, which will reduce the glossiness of
the surface. Naturally, clean away the resulting eraser droppings so
they don't get into the tape.

2007-11-21 Thread Baker, Jane

The checkin will work with search=bulk but it will have prompted you and you
needed to reply, q req will show prompts and if you then issue reply (number)
it will go, alternatively you can put waitt=0 on the end to stop it prompting
(presuming you have TSM 5.3).

Hi,

this is perhaps a newbee question, but:

how do i check new tapes into a 3584 library using the I/O-station?

what i want to do:
i'm running two tape libraries, and because the year ends soon, some
money has left for buying new tapes to fill both library.

unfortunately a certain time ago some tapes belonging (due to their
labeling) to library B have been inserted into library A.

now i remove this tapes from A and want to replace them by the new ones.
well, in library A there are only a few scratch tapes, so I cannot empty
all the wrong tapes and remove them all at once.
instead I empty just 10 of them and then remove them by checking out to
the I/O-station.
actually I want to check-in and label the right-labeled inserted in the
I/O-station.

what i already tried:

dsm> checkin libvolume 3584 search=yes checkin=scratch

dsm> label libv 3584 search=yes labels=barcode checkin=scratch
volrange=ABW500,ABW509

dsm> label libv 3584 search=bulk labels=barcode checkin=scratch

Re: How to checkin tapes from I/O-station?

2007-11-20 Thread BEYERS Kurt
Bjorn,

If you want to checkin all of the tapes in the IO station, issue the following
command:

Label libv 3584 search=bulk labels=barcode checkin=scratch {waitt=0
overwrite=yes}

If the tapes were labelled already in TSM, the option overwrite=yes is required.

If the option waittime is not known yet in your version of the TSM server
(always good to mention it), ask the request-id (q req) on the command line and
reply it afterwards (reply ).

And last but not least, the command must be given from a TSM Admin command line
(TSM: >YOUR_SERVER_NAME) , the commands below are given at the backup client
command-line.

Best regards,
Kurt

Re: Converting I/O station into regular slots

2003-02-28 Thread Bill Boyer
WHen I added capacity to a 3583 library I had to reboot the WIn2k server
itself to get the change recognized in TSM. I tried just restarting TSM, but
I think it was more of a SCSI/driver issue. After the reboot of the Win2k
server, TSM recognized the new slots.

Perfect, this did it. Now, here is another questions, I tried checking
the volumes that I placed on the I/O to be put in the libvol list but it
does not find anything new. Here is exactly what I have done:

-- Setup->Utils->Config-> I/O to storage
-- Reboot Library
-- Put library offline once its up and place cardtriges in the I/O
   (now storage space slots) window
-- Run the following command:
checkin libvol lto3583.0 search=yes status=scratch
-- It finishes successfully but it does not checkin any of the new 12
tapes placed on the library I/O window.

Re: Converting I/O station into regular slots

2003-02-27 Thread Camilo A. Marrugo
Perfect, this did it. Now, here is another questions, I tried checking
the volumes that I placed on the I/O to be put in the libvol list but it
does not find anything new. Here is exactly what I have done:

-- Setup->Utils->Config-> I/O to storage
-- Reboot Library
-- Put library offline once its up and place cardtriges in the I/O
   (now storage space slots) window
-- Run the following command:
checkin libvol lto3583.0 search=yes status=scratch
-- It finishes successfully but it does not checkin any of the new 12
tapes placed on the library I/O window.

Thanks in Advance,
Camilo Marrugo

The manual, of all things, says you can...
via Setup->Utils->Config.

Yes, I've done this with our 3583. I can't tell you from the
top of my head what exactly I did, but you have to configure
the library using the front panel.

Converting I/O station into regular slots

2003-02-24 Thread Camilo A. Marrugo
Hello TSMr's

I have a question, I am running out of physical space on my 3583
library, and I was wondering if there is a way of making the 12 slots on
the I/O station (Bulk), part of the regular tape slots.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Camilo Marrugo

Mi advise is not to install a 3494 without the convenience I/O station.
There is no much to to understand about it but you can find information in
the
following redbook:
IBM Magstar Tape Products Family: A Practical Guide , SG24-4632-03

Maria

Re: I/O Station

2000-11-22 Thread Othonas Xixis

Saad,
The optional Convenience Input/Output Station feature is available for inserting or
ejecting cartridges without interrupting the normal automated operations.
You have three options:
1) No Convenience Input/Output Station
2) A 10-cartridge Convenience Input/Output Station feature (reduces the overall
library cartridge capacity by 30 cartridges).
3) A 30-cartridge Convenience Input/Output Station feature (reduces the overall
library cartridge capacity by 80 cartridges).

The best manual for yr case is the following:
Title: Magstar 3494 Tape Library Introduction and Planning Guide
Document Number: GA32-0279-11

My recommendation is:
If you have off-site and DR requirements functions in a daily basis then you need at
least the 10-cartridge I/O Station. The 3494 library can grow really big... I don't
know yr installation but if you have a large 3494 installation
with frequent tape I/Os then you should consider the 30-cartridge I/O Station.

Good Luck.

Othonas
