IBM Tape Device Driver - Windows Server 2008

2009-04-29 Thread Andrew Collyer
Henrik, the Removable Media Service in 2008 becomes an optional installable
'feature' known as Removable Storage Manager. I have not installed this
feature on the server.

Jo, I've not got as far as trying an earlier version. This is all part of
an asset replacement so I'm still building the system and hoped to go to
the latest. After a reboot, if I re-install the drivers they attach to
everything they should do (including those devices that 'lost' the driver
after the reboot). But then a further reboot causes a few more to lose
them again. I'm going to did out an older version and see if the problem
still manifests itself.

Thanks.

Andy

Re: IBM Tape Device Driver - Windows Server 2008

2009-04-28 Thread Jo Lay
Andy,

This is not TSM SAN Discovery problem. This is more of a IBM tape driver
issue. Did you have to re-install the IBM tape device driver for some of
the device each time after reboot? Did you have this problem before or
only with device driver 6.2.0.1?

I've installed the IBM Tape Device Driver v6.2.0.1 onto a Windows 2008
x64 Server. The install is always successful and installs on all medium
changers and tape drives.

On some devices, when I reboot the server the driver doesn't stay
associated to the tape or medium changer device. This appears to be
adhoc and changes after every reboot.

Has anyone else seen this behaviour or got any suggestions please?

I've not configured persistent bindings this time since the TSM docs
state that SAN Discovery is the way forward and there is no need for
them. Is this perhaps the issue here?

Thanks.
