Antwort: Re: [ADSM-L] Migrate IBM 3583 to a 3584 library
Hi, Luc ! We are planing to involve a second TL, and change from 3583with lto2 to a new TL with lto3. And new tapes with higher capacity. We decided to do a soft migration: No move data from tape to tape, instead any scratch volume will be a new one so data will be written step by step from old to new volumes. We place new scratch volumes every day inside, after desaster media where taken out of the TL. I assume, in your case new lto3 drives can also read lto1 volumes. Hi Luc, Luc Beaudoin schrieb: I all Did anyone had to migrate a 3583 to a 3584 library Is there any documentation regarding that or anyone had done it We've done it last year. If you use the same drives so that you can reuse your tapes, it's very simple. Just make sure the name of your device classes and storage pools stay the same, then you can move the tapes from the old library to your new one. After updating the new library's inventory (just restarting it) and doing an "audit library" (or restarting TSM), the tapes are known by TSM again. If I remember correctly, that was all we have done. No data were lost. -- Regards, Dirk Kastens Universitaet Osnabrueck, Rechenzentrum (Computer Center) Albrechtstr. 28, 49069 Osnabrueck, Germany Tel.: +49-541-969-2347, FAX: -2470
Re: Migrate IBM 3583 to a 3584 library
Since the LTO3's can read the LTO1's and the 3584 library can handle mixed media, I would mark my LTO1 tapes as READONLY, put in lots of LTO3 tapes for scratch and let all the new data go to the LTO3 tapes and the data on the LTO1's just let expire off. Your reclamation tasks will take over and return the LTO1's to scratch status, but they won't ever be mounted again. Just eject them when you see them in the library. Re: Migrate IBM 3583 to a 3584 library
They are both LTO libraries, right. Unless you're moving up to 3592 drives in the 3584? First define a temporary MANUAL library and point your devclass(es) to it. Def libr temp1 libt=manual Upd devc libr=temp1 Now delete all your drives/paths library/path for the 3583 in TSM. Attach the 3584 and put all your tapes in the library Define the library/path and drives/paths for the 3584 Upd devc libr=<3584library> Checkin libv <3584library> search=yes checkl=b stat=scr Checkin libv <3584library> search=yes checkl=b stat=pri And you should be good to go. By createing and assigning the devclass(es) to the temporary manual library, all your storage pools remain intact. Now just delete the TEMP1 library.
