Move TSM Database onto new location

2008-04-08 Thread William Kyndt
Hi,

Due to performance issues we wish to move our TSM Database from a SATA Drives
Array onto a Fibre Drives Array. Both are setup and visible to our TSM Server.

My question is, is it possible to halt TSM copy the database to it's new
location and update the TSM server with the new path for the database or would
we have to define new volumes and restore the database onto the newly defined
volumes?

Hope this makes sense.

Kind regards,

William

Simply copying files is neither recommended nor supported.
The correct way to do the migration is from the TSM admin program:
1. Define new db volumes
2. Delete old db volumes
TSM will automatically move all data across from the old volumes to the
new ones before deleting the old ones.

(After the process completes, you have to manually delete the old files
from your filesystem - TSM will only delete them from the TSM configuration)

AW: [ADSM-L] Move TSM Database onto new location

2008-04-08 Thread Thomas Rupp
Hi,
Please see Richard Sims exceptional TSM knowledge base

Database, move within a system The easiest way to move the TSM
database
is by volume stepping stones:
add a
volume, or several volumes, at
least as
capacious as the contents of
current
volumes, and then perform DELete
DBVolume
on the old. TSM will
automatically
transfer the contents of the
dbvolume
being deleted to the new space,
and thus
you effect movement.

William,

If you are happy with the size of the db volumes, simply create new
mirror volumes for your existing volumes. Define the mirrors and once
the mirrors are in sync (q dbvol f=d), delete the original volumes.
