Re: Problem Installing 4.11.16 client on NT4 Server SP6a

2000-11-09 Thread France, Don G (Pace)

Sounds like you have an MS installer problem... If you haven't already, you
may need to re-install MSI and/or SP6a. Also, consider doing NT
repair-install (from the decision-path that uses existing disk-based backup
files, not the ERD), as that would be least likely to add to your problem.
This might not be useful if you didn't create new ERD (which updates the
config backup files).

After doing that, re-run the TSM install (maybe un-install first; though
I've never found that to be effective, we had an NT box that recently got
its dsmsched.log corrupted with unintelligible date-time stamps... the cure
was un-install and re-install!) Also, verify your install image on the
failing machine is identical to the success machines.

If all this fails, consider using an incident with Microsoft, as that seems
the most likely source of your symptoms; you did already check the TechNet
K-Base articles for symptoms, right? Hope some of this helps.

Subject:Problem Installing 4.11.16 client on NT4 Server SP6a

I just upgraded 8 servers from 3.1.06 to 4.11.16 running NT4 Server SP6a.
All worked fine.

One other server fails with the message "The wizard was interrupted before
Tivoli Storage Manager Client could be completely installed. Your system
has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run
setup again."

I was able to upgrade this server to the 3.7.201 version.

I have seen previous postings on this problem, one said to try to run
instmsiw.exe then run setup later - this didn't solve the problem for me.

I have tried running setup logged into local console with a lcoal admin id,
and with Antivirus stopped (as suggested by Andy Raibek in a post) - still
no luck.

I created a setup log, the last lines in the log are:
MSI (c) (0B:F6): Transforming table Error.

MSI (c) (0B:F6): Transforming table Error.

MSI (c) (0B:F6): Product: Tivoli Storage Manager Client -- Installation
operation failed.

MSI (c) (0B:F6): MainEngineThread is returning 1603
=== Verbose logging stopped: 11/7/00  15:17:53 ===

If anyone has a solution for this problem, it would be appreciated.

2000-11-09 Thread Palmadesso Jack

I have also seen the same problem. Tried on fresh sp5 and sp6 machines.
Also it only happens when I try to do a silent install. If I do a manual
install it works fine. The silent install will dr watson with msiexec.exe
but the installation of the TSM Client continues and finishes. The client
seems to work fine too. I just don't want to send an install out there when
I know its going to dr watson out. I am just telling them to install it
manually with my doc. There definitely seems to be some problem with the
new MSInstaller.
