Hi Don!
What PASE announcement are you referring to? The page
http://www.tivoli.com/products/resources/storage-mgr/enhancements-v5.1.5.htm
l mentions a TSM server for AS/400 PASE. Mark and Del were talking about a
TSM client for AS/400.

Check out the PASE announcement; I just attended a web-conf on the PASE for
OS/400 announcement, as it relates to TSM.

There's info on the BRMS web site and (only basic) info in the announcement
letter for v5.1 of TSM server (April 12, 2002).

Mark,

Please follow-up with the source of that presentation.
Have them research where they obtained that info.
Maybe the slide was supposed to be referring to
the TSM "API" client for OS/400 - not the client itself.
There isn't a TSM "BA" client on OS/400 in current plans.

Thanks,

That's interesting. The presentation sent to our company by IBM early this
year told of the coming of both an OS/400 client and a Linux86 server
"sometime in 2002".

Why/How would the V5.1.5 server speed up BRMS backups? I'm real curious
about this!

And keep in mind that we're supposed to see a true AS/400 client for TSM
sometime this year or early next.

(Never understood how you can build a TSM server for an OS and not have a
client for the same OS.)

Running BRMS to a TSM server is EXTREMELY slow (3.5gb/hr here). What I've
been told by Tivoli folks is that TSM Server 5.1.5 is supposed to make this
100 times faster.

BRMS quite a bit different from TSM, but so is the AS/400 different from
anything else. I have been using it for six years on our AS/400s. IT does
have its advantages, but don't let anyone tell you that BRMS and TSM are
seamlessly interconnectable. Keep in mind that BRMS is meant to be
implemented with a ful/incremental policy that is date driven, not infinite
incremental and version driven. If you want more details just e-mail me
and we can set up some time to talk. I think you will like BRMS, it's just
that it's inherently different from TSM.

BRMS Backup Recovery and Media Services (for OS/400)

Looks like a cut down TSM... actually states TSM server may be used for
data
storage by BRMS

Any TSM'ers have any AS/400's and use BRMS ? ? ?

I think my backup services management is about to expand and was looking
for
some info on...

BRMS, easy if you've managed TSM environments
BRMS, nothing like TSM
BRMS, ???

Sorry for the BRMS question :-/
