Re: LTO4 Tape Recovery

2017-03-10 Thread Sasa Drnjevic
Hi.
Which TSM version?

I used the following long time ago... It is a long shot. I wish you luck

Get this tsmtape0.1.tar.z here:

https://sourceforge.net/projects/tsmtape/

This is an excerpt from a README:
=

Description:
TSMtape recovers files from a Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) v5.x tape.

Detail:
TSM is unable to import a rogue tape that is not identified within
its database or restore a file located on a known tape after it has
been expired.
TSMtape will allow the recovery of these files by reading a TSM v5.x
(tested against 5.2)
tape and allowing restoration or listing of all files without need
of the
TSM software or database.

OS:
Updated to compile/run on Linux x86. gcc version 3.3.3 (SuSE Linux)

History:
TSMtape is based off adsmtape written by Thorhallur Sverrisson who
released the original work under GNU GPL. adsmtape targeted ADSM
(predecessor to TSM) v3 and was written for AIX.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/adsmtape/

Build:
untar the files and run make.

Usage:
   ./TSMtape [-R|restore]
or
   ./TSMtape [-A|--audittape]

Options:
-h, --help display this help and exit
-A, --audit Output list of files stored on tape with supporting
details in csv format
-R, --restore Restore "your" files ;-)
File parsing can be a partial or full path, Use a
'/' as a catchall

-v[vv] Print additional debugging information

   Example:
 ./TSMtape --restore /dev/st0 /etc/shadow /tmp/recovered
 ./TSMtape --audit /dev/st0 / /tmp/tapefiles.csv

...
..
.

Re: LTO4 Tape Recovery

2017-03-09 Thread Roger Deschner
Index Engines machines can do this. While they can't recover all of the
metadata (which TSM mostly stores in its database) they can recover the
data itself from a TSM backup tape. You will lose some information such
as file names and owner nodenames, but you can get the data. We use
Index Engines. Go to www.indexengines.com and click on "Partners and
Resources" for companies that can do this as a service.
