Re: Recommended ADSM hardware
1. Go for an *80, whatever you can afford. Disk (SSA) is more important than RAM. Couldn't justify much more than 256MB on ADSM -- havn't any evidence for TSM. AIX will use the extra so go for a gig or two... 2. Go for a 3494 with at least 3 (pref. 4) 3590-E1A drives. Too much? Buy used from ICC upgrade. Still too much? Buy a new, large capacity, 3575 with at least 4 (pref. 6) 3570C drives. Too much? Buy used from ICC upgrade. Still too much? Go to work for a better company! Does my preference for IBM hardware show? Go browse ADSM-L archives and then review 8mm DLT recording technology and decide for yourself. "Marc D. Are there others I should be considering? What are people using today. Thanks for your input and I have learned a lot from being on this list. I will share the results if anyone is interested. Re: Recommended ADSM hardware
Hi, It all depends on database size, backup time requiremnt, , no of clients , how much data they TSM will backup every night can you give input on this? Shekhar
Re: Recommended ADSM hardware
We migrated from DLT 3000 tape units to IBM 3494 Tape libraries, they are a lot more stable than any DLT drives we used. Can anybody recommend a IBM or 3rd party vendor that will work with ADSM 3.2.40 and eventually TSM3.7.1? I think I will need a library that holds at least 40 DLT IV tapes as I will have to reuse the ones I have. Thanks, Bob M.
Re: Recommended ADSM hardware
If you need to reuse your DLTs then Breece Hill makes a good little library. I am using 2 Q47s with 3 DLT4000 drives and am deploying 4 more q 47s with DLT8000 drives. Each holds 60 tapes in a rotating carasel. ADSM supports it with the SCSI library drivers. They have been very reliable and their support is good. Even the call is free. Onsite service is expensive but who isn't and they hardly break anyway. I know the 2 that are currently deployed have been in place for almost 5 years. I believe Breece Hills can still be ordered with the older DLT hardware.
