Re: TSM 5.3 support with NT

2005-05-24 Thread Loon, E.J. van - SPLXM
Hi Andy!
I don't understand this.
On the FTP server I find two directories with 32-bit client code.
In
ftp://ftp.storsys.ibm.com/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance/client/v5r2/
Windows/Win32/LATEST/ one finds the 5.2.4 client which is only supported on
Windows 2000, 2003 and XP according to the readme.
In the directory
ftp://ftp.storsys.ibm.com/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance/client/v5r2/
Windows/WinNT/LATEST/ one finds a 5.1.6 client, while 5.1.7 is the most
current release 5.1...
(ftp://ftp.storsys.ibm.com/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance/client/v5r1
/Windows/WinNT/LATEST/)
When using a 5.3 server, should we use the 5.1.6 client in the 5r2 directory
or can we also use the most current 5.1.7 client from the 5r1 directory?
Kindest regards,

Additional info:

The Windows NT 4.0 operating system is no longer a supported client with
TSM version 5.3. However, NT 4.0 is a supported client in TSM 5.2 (though
with version 5.1 functionality). Since the clients shipped as part of 5.2
are supported with the 5.3 server, the NT 4.0 client is supported with the
5.3 server.

I am planning to upgrade our TSM server from 5.2 to 5.3 and I
have NT clients that have TSM 5.1.
Since TSM server supports only 5.3 and 5.2 client and since
those clients versions don't support NT, how can I upgrade the
server and keep the backup of the NT servers?

Your assumption is incorrect. A 5.3 server will talk to a 5.1 client.
(It will talk to a 3.1 client as well.)

Hi Eric,

You can use the 5.1.7 client. I suspect a simple oversight in updating the
link from the 5.2 directory.
