Re: TSM Certification

2005-02-17 Thread Prather, Wanda
FWIW,
I also recommend highly the TSM Technical Guide Redbooks.

For you Jack, they'll just be a quick review. But those help to keep
you up to speed on the things you may not use day-to-day in your own
shop.

Re: TSM Certification

2005-02-16 Thread Andrew Raibeck
Yes. Do QUERY ADMIN and you should see it.

If you start the TSM server in the foreground, the screen space where TSM
server messages appear and from which you can type administrative commands
is SERVER_CONSOLE. This is a special ID (or, in a generic sense, "account"
:-) that you can not update; neither can you explicitly log in as
SERVER_CONSOLE.

Re: TSM Certification

2005-02-16 Thread Bill Smoldt
I always loved this way back when I was in school - if I could get a
professor to listen I could talk them into throwing out almost any question
on a technicality. Hard to get that computer giving the exam to listen.

In the latest certification I took, IBM allowed a comment for every
question, but it was a beta test. I spent more time entering comments than
taking the test.

On the other hand, I sat in on one of the certification test creation
sessions, and it's extraordinarily difficult to get agreement on every
question. IBM even hired one of my old professors to moderate the sessions.

Hi Jack!
Also checkout this one:

but it might help you.
By the way, I also did the sample test on
http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/tests/sam799.shtml. However, I think question
9 is incorrect. The question is:

9 Which account is created during an installation of the IBM Tivoli Storage
Manager (Storage Manager) Server?
A Administrator
B Root
C Admin
D Admin_Console

Answer D is listed as the correct answer. But shouldn't that be
Server_Console?

Sandra,

For information about IBM certifications, see website
http://www-1.ibm.com/certify. There you will find information about
prerequisites, requirements, recommended education and publications,
sample tests, and more
or athttp://www-1.ibm.com/certify/certs/tvdpsm52.shtml

Then -- depending on your experience -- you can download the TSM CBT's
from the global Campus --
http://w3-3.ibm.com/education/lang_en_US/index.jsp

If you have been working with TSM for awhile -- then you could probably
skip the CBT's and focus on these 3 doc's:

1) TSM 5.2 Performance and tune guide, attached.
2) TSM 5.2 Implementation guide (get it from the redbook site, too big
can't attached).
3) TSM 5.2 IBM Tivoli Storage Management Concepts (again from Redbook:

Pricing for each test can vary depending on your geographical location and
testing site. Please contact the testing facility of choice directly to
determine the cost associated with each test.

For information about worldwide test locations, dates, sign up
instructions, and prices, refer to the Prometric web site at
http://www.2test.com, call 800-959-3926 (EXAM), or visit the VUE site at
http://www.vue.com . In addition, for testing outside of the United
States, please see the IBM Learning Services site (
http://www-3.ibm.com/services/learning/global/itprod/certify.html). You
can view these websites without committing to taking the exam.

There are so many Tivoli certification programs, you need to pick one and
you have to pass one test: some require 70%, some 61%,... and at any big
city will have a test place.
They just rent a place for you to come in to logon and to do the test
online. You may take as many times as you want, hopefully you only take
one time and pass. It cost $150.00 per time at my home town to take a
test. If you have an "IBM promotion code" you will get free test.

If you have more questions I can help, email me offline.

You want the "Book of Answers". That's not what certifications are
about. TSM is complex. Different areas are important in different
environments. A good certification test should show that you have good
overall expertise on the topic, in all areas.

Re: TSM certification

2004-04-01 Thread Kevin Bartholomew
Andy,

The TSM certification tests do require overall expertise not only with the
TSM product but general SAN, network and system architecture as well. I
would strongly recommend studying all of the administrative commands and
their uses, SQL statements and TSM 5.2 added features. As long as you
understand general network and system architectures knowing those three
things well will earn you the TSM 5.2 Certified Deployment Professional
certification.

Re: TSM Certification Exam

The exam consists of 80 questions, and you are allowed 90 minutes to
complete the exam. Scoring is scaled from a minimum of 200 to a maximum of
800, a passing score is 620, this equates to 70% or 56 correct answers.

Re: TSM Certification Exam

2001-10-22 Thread Kelly Lipp

Consider also taking the TSM Level 2 course. Tivoli offers this course and
we offer this course. Check our website for details. Our class is held
bi-monthly. That said, the next course will probably be offered in January.

Our Level 2 class is being taught in the Netherlands next week. If you are
interested in attending contact [EMAIL PROTECTED] I believe there
may still be room in the class.

Both courses, ours and Tivoli's have the same basis. We wrote the 3.7
Advanced class for IBM a couple of years ago. The goal of that course was
and is to prepare attendees for the certification test. Another large
aspect of the test is TSM design and planning. That is covered in great
detail in the course and not covered particularly well anyplace else.

The intent of the certification test is to ensure that folks that pass have
a very broadbased knowledge of the product. It was designed to make it very
difficult to pass by simply reading books and taking courses but rather to
require about a year of daily TSM administration. In that way your are
likely to see most every scenario possible with respect to TSM.

If you have read the recommended books (mainly Concepts and Technical
Guide) and installed at least a single server and client (reading sometimes
Administration Guide) it is not so hard to take the exam. It took me about
40-50 min with registration so you have twice more time than needed.

Guide" and know it well.

You don´t need to read the "Tivoli Storage Management Reporting" book,
they won´t ask mutch about the reporting in TSM. only simple questions witch
can be learnd form the other books.

If you know this you should be able to pass.

Also, does anyone have some good information on what to read to be able to

Any help would be appreciated.
