Re: TSM now supports Microsoft Exchange Server 2010

2011-03-02 Thread Del Hoobler
Sometimes this means that your configuration is not quite correct.

Make sure that there is a CAD and AGENT running and configured
on the passive node and that the LOCALDSMAGENTNODENAME is pointing
to that.

If you think it is correct, make sure that the
"Microsoft Exchange Replication" windows service is "Started"
and set to automatic.

If all of this seems correct, open a PMR.

Thanks,

You didn't specify any details.
It is difficult to provide assistance on a comment like:
   "doesnt work with Exchange anymore."
What error message did you receive?
What were the contents of the TDPEXC.LOG file?

The scheduled backups should work. You need to make sure the
"Log On As" user for the TSM scheduler service has proper
authority to be able to access the Exchange Server
management objects. If the script runs manually, but
not when launched from the TSM Scheduler, it is
most likely a permissions issues.

Hi

The only way to work it’s with LOCALDSMAgentnode (nodename in dsm.opt of the
client BA node)

Change the association from nodename of the TDP option nodename to the nodename
of the client and surprise everything is working

On which node should the scheduler be setup? The Exchange node or the

On Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007 the scheduler has been setup on the Exchange

My excfull.cmd and excincr.cmd works fine if I enter them manually.

This can happen if you are running an older version
of the the TSM Windows BA Client. You need to be running
TSM Windows BA Client 6.2.1 or later when performing
operations with Exchange Server 2010.

If you are running TSM Windows BA Client 6.2.1 or later,
please open a call with IBM support.

Robert is absolutely correct.

And I highly encourage you to read the configuration section of the
User's Guide since configuration for VSS backups is a bit more complicated

and if you skip steps, things will not work (as you found out.)

Hi,

Im currently trying to implement backup on exchange 2010.

But im getting som error that i cant seem to fix.

The baklient and TDP has been installed.

LOCALDSMAgentnode has been set to the same nodename of the backup node.

When i try and run "tdpexcc.exe query exchange" it can query the exchange

ACN5229E Error obtaining VSS information from Local DSMAgent Node: 'Nodename'.
ANS1532E (RC5722) Proxy Rejected: Proxy authority has not been granted to this

Is everything the same with 2010 as far as syntax and procedures go so
we can just use the current 6.1 book?

Tivoli Storage Manager for Mail - Data Protection for Exchange 6.1.2
and IBM Tivoli Storage FlashCopy Manager 2.2 now support Microsoft
Exchange Server 2010.

There are a few important things to take note of.
Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 included some significant changes,
a number of which affect backup and restore.
For example, under Exchange Server 2010:

* Legacy-style backups (aka "streaming" backups) are no longer
supported by Microsoft
* VSS-style backups are the only supported online backup method
* Exchange storage groups were removed completely
* The Recovery Database replaced the Recovery Storage Group (RSG)
* Database Availability Groups (DAGs) have replaced LCR, CCR, and
SCR
replication
* Single Copy Clustering (SCC) is no longer available

Exchange Server 2010 support will require two (2) TSM packages
to be downloaded, installed, and configured for VSS operations:

1. Data Protection for Exchange 6.1.2 x64 package:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance
/tivoli-data-protection/ntexch/v612/x64/

2. TSM BA Windows Client 6.2.1 x64 package:

ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/storage/tivoli-storage-management/maintenance
/client/v6r2/Windows/x64/v621/

Note: If you are a FlashCopy Manager customer, the new
  FlashCopy Manager 2.2 package contains both packages.

Here are details about the TSM/FCM functionality for Exchange Server
2010:

* Full Exchange Server 2010 support

* Command-line Interface (CLI)

* Graphical User Interface (GUI)

* Database Availability Group (DAG) support

* Query Exchange Information
  o Shows all databases with various attributes
  o Shows VSS component information

* Backup
  o Full, Copy, Incremental, Differential
  o Back up from production database
  o Back up from a passive database copy (replica)
  o Back up to TSM Server
  o Back up to LOCAL snapshot
  o Offloaded backup to TSM

* Query Backups
  o Shows all backups with their attributes

* Restore
  o Restore from TSM Server
  o Restore into production database
  o Restore into "Recovery Database"
  o VSS Instant Restore from LOCAL snapshot
  o VSS Fast Restore from LOCAL snapshot
  o Mailbox Restore (IMR)

* FlashCopy Manager and MMC Integration

Note: Exchange Server 2010 VSS backups to the TSM Server
  are enabled without the requirement for a TSM for
  Copy Services or FlashCopy Manager license.

Thanks,

Del
