Thanks Re: [ADSM-L] Virtual I/O in TS3500
Hi, W ! Always nice to hear from an old friend. I needed to dig deeper in the guide. I was looking under ALMS and Virtual IO for a setting to change. I should have been in Logical Libraries. Got it. Virtual I/O in TS3500
I am encountering problems with TSM due to what I think is a problem with my TS3500 library. When I load 32 or more tapes, TSM chokes when running a process that checks out tapes. It shows all the I/O ports to be full. I CAN load more than 32 tapes. The library dutifully unloads the physical I/O and slots the tapes. However, multiple check-in commands are required to process all of the cartridges. We do have virtual I/O enabled on the library. I tried toggling it off then back on. The library only shows 32 I/O slots. The manual says that up to 224 cartridges can be loaded. The same hang-up occur if the doors are open when a tape needs to be ejected, or if the physical I/O slots actually are full of tapes. Is this a setup/configuration problem or a call to IBM? Fw: Virtual I/O in TS3500
I forgot to mention: ALMS is enabled. Probably, my effort at toggling virtual I/O on and off was meaningless since it is enabled by default when ALMS is enabled. George Huebschman (George H.) Re: Virtual I/O in TS3500
Hi George! Long time no E! It's a config issue (or an operator issue, depending on your point of view) You can set the number of virtual I/O slots for the library from the library web interface. If you are going to eject or enter more than 32 carts at once, you should increase the number of virtual I/O slots to a bigger number (up to 224). I don't know of any downside to doing that, except that you will also need to stop and restart TSM, so that it will pick up the new I/O slot ids.
