Re: Win2000 tsm client

2010-05-19 Thread Andrew Raibeck
Hmm which vulnerabilities do you refer to that were not fixed in the
5.3.6.x levels? If they were not fixed in 5.3.6.x, then they probably did
not exist at that code level.

Yes, just to ensure there is clarity (not just for you, but for other
readers), while the earlier 5.4 levels did not prohibit installation on
Windows 2000, it was clearly documented that Windows 2000 was not supported
as of version 5.4.0.0.

I think you are right, but we were pushed out from 5.3.6.X by
autitors because of some vulnerabilities, which are fixed in 5.4.1.2
 (not in 5.4.1.1).
Fortunately, it was possible to upgrade client to 5.4.1.2 (5.4.1.3
 says not supported under 2000).
We have tested 5.4.1.2 carefully and found it working. Test included
normal backup/restores and Windows recovery by TBMR 6.1.1.
So we are using 5.4.1.2 on all 4 remaining Windows 2000 servers.

I should also mention that it is not easy to back down to 5.3.6.x. To do
that, you would have to uninstall the 5.4 client first, then install
5.3.6.x. In addition, you will not be able to restore files backed up with
the 5.4 client; you will get an error message saying that the object has an
unknown format, or something like that. The simplest way around this is to
rename the existing file spaces to something different, then start with
fresh backups. You can keep the old file spaces around as long as you might
need to restore something from them, after which they can be deleted.

Win2000 TSM client Japanese English file structure.

2002-03-14 Thread Nick Rutherford

Hello all,
hoping you can help me. Currently we have a TSM client installed onto a
Janapese NT server backing up our file server data. I want to migrate from the
NT platform to a English Windows 2000 platform so I can use the UNICODE option
for backing up our mixed Japanese English data.

The client backup keeps failing on the new Win2000 client because the Japanese
file names still appear un-readable through an Dos command line. When looking
through the 'My Computer' icon, all Japanese files appear correctly in Japanese
text. Does anybody know what setting is required to allow the dos command prompt
to also show these file in Japanese character format ?

many thanks for any help,
Nick Rutherford

Re: Win2000 TSM client Japanese English file structure.

2002-03-14 Thread Andrew Raibeck

There is no UNICODE option per se, to do what you want. You need the TSM
4.2 product (client and server), and then the client will be able to
support your mixed data.
