I don’t know why you wouldn’t stack switches if they have the internal ability.

I don’t use the switches for BGP or any advanced layer3 stuff, just layer2
stuff with VLAN.

Much much easier to manage as a stack rather than individual.

Hi,

What are some recommended stacked switches for a relatively small FTTH network?
I’d prefer switches with a DC power option. We’re planning to replace Cisco
routing with Mikrotik and want to replace switches as well.

Thanks,

Clint

Re: [AFMUG] OT ota dvr

Yeah, I have an airtv... it works and it's cheap. the biggest problem with
it, is that it can't pause live tv. other than that, it works reasonably
well.

Hi,

What are some recommended stacked switches for a relatively small FTTH network?
I’d prefer switches with a DC power option. We’re planning to replace Cisco
routing with Mikrotik and want to replace switches as well.

Thanks,

You could look at Plex on a NAS and an HDHomeRun. Plex has a "lifetime"
Plex Pass option, for whatever the fine print on that means.

https://support.plex.tv/articles/201373803-nas-compatibility-list/

Everything being a subscription sucks. I already have enough
subscriptions. Everything having an app store and apps also sucks.

Apparently Samsung TV's have the ability to record OTA to an attached
USB drive, but it's disabled in firmware for the US market.

It's more of a server on a computer or NAS, and then applications on your
devices/roku to talk to that server.

Lifetime Plex + Hd Homerun (
https://www.silicondust.com/product/hdhomerun-quatro/). Start up cost is a
bit high, considering you need to run Plex on a computer or NAS device that
supports it. Also see:

-
Full Roku functionality seems to still be in development (preview version
available to be able to setup/manage recordings).

There is several others that are more in-depth to setup, but it works for
me.

Ethernet Services/service points won’t help if operational status is down.
Admin up = you’ve enabled the port. Operational down = no ethernet link. Check
to make sure you’re receiving light at router/switch. Does that end show an
ethernet link?

I always thought they were overly complicated.
If it's a new unit, tech support will help you set it up. You'll probably
never have to look at it again so IMO just let them take care of it.

Go to the Interface Manager and turn on/off GE ports that you want to
use.
1 is the copper port, 2 is the first sfp cage, 3 is the sfp cage that
may or may not be used for MIMO depending on HW model so probably
stick with port 2. It's under the System tab or something on top of
the tree, don't have one handy to look.

Stacked switches are generally not recommended.

Hi,

What are some recommended stacked switches for a relatively small FTTH network?
I’d prefer switches with a DC power option. We’re planning to replace Cisco
routing with Mikrotik and want to replace switches as well.

Thanks,

Clint
