Re: [AFMUG] Small outside plant AC BOX?

2021-04-16 Thread Chuck McCown via AF
I agree but I have worked in telco C.O. for more than 4 decades. Batts right
in the same room as switching equipment in many cases. Also lots of remotes
have batts in a tray at the bottom or in a cabinet to the side that is not
isolated from air flow.

You would think it would cause a problem. I would bet on it but I have never
seen a problem traced to batt vapors.

Is it a good idea to include batteries in same box with electronics? I've
always had corrosion problems with this. I'd suggest separate boxes for
batteries.

Re: [AFMUG] GPON through MUX?

2021-04-16 Thread Trey Scarborough
yes you can do this I have in some areas where I can lease Dark fiber in
a PON setup from the community fiber provider. However I wouldn't
recommend it for a standard setup It will require you to put filters at
every one of you endpoints. You have to filter out all other channels
going to the customer on most equipment because they don't filter out RX.

Pretty sure you can just use the right wdm equipment and do this.  I
know I have seen power points from Calix showing how you layer GPON

It would be similar to a diplex filter I would think.

Why isn't there a MUX that carries GPON on one port and then also allows
me a few ethernet paths on other wavelengths?  I feel like this would be
a really useful thing for people leasing dark fiber, so I can't fathom
why it's not a commodity item.

Re: [AFMUG] Small outside plant AC BOX?

2021-04-16 Thread Adam Moffett
I can attest that Amprod Mini-Fort will fit 4x 100ah in the bottom.
They don't put prices on the website, but I've gotten quotes for them
before and they were comparable to listed price for IOIO Box

IOIO Box would work too I'm sure.  I don't have a dog in this race, but
those are both good suggestions.

If you don't mind a separate battery box then you can do a smaller
enclosure for just your electronics and a Job Box for batteries.  I have
done that many times and it works out cheaper. RIDGID 32R-OS fits 4x
100ah with room to spare.  We also put a 1/2" plywood panel under the
lid to bolt in surge suppressors and such.

There's something about steel boxes where past a certain size the price
jumps way up.  I think if they're small enough to bend out of one sheet
they're cheaper.  Whatever the reason is, two small boxes is often
cheaper than one big one.
