I just tried to upgrade a test router running simple OSPF from 6.49 to
7.1rc5 and the OSPF sessions never came back up, so I'm guessing their
config conversion code isn't working quite right yet.

There's still a lot of yellow on this page

https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/v7+Routing+Protocol+Status

I just tried to upgrade a test router running simple OSPF from 6.49 to

This time, it might actually work. They have a model that provides local
stations with an additional source of revenue, and they don't have to
charge  users anything. Networks don't like it though.

Re: [AFMUG] Plume managed WiFi

2021-10-29 Thread Carl Peterson
We use Plume and really like it but they are out of Super Pods right now.
The new AX ones coming out cost quite a bit more expensive and are not
available yet. There are a few new Chinese devices that are supported we
may use in the interim. Haven't tested them yet.

Re: [AFMUG] Tarana G1

2021-10-29 Thread dmmoffett
"Our G1 system delivers fiber-class speeds and quality over
non-line-of-sight connections at long range - in unlicensed spectrum - that
are immune to interference and changes in the scene,"

That statement is on their main page and it already makes them full of crap.
If I assume that sentence to contain a kernel of truth then it's probably an
incremental improvement in nLOS performance. No matter what improvements
they've made the Shannon-Hartley theorem still applies so "Immune to
interference" is obviously a statement made with no regard for its
truthfulness (i.e.: bullshit).

More snake oil or anything of substance?

The usual claims of gigabit, fiber replacement and non-line of sight in 3 or
5 GHz.

The webinar had some strongly encouraging statements from Wisper, a
respected WISP. Tarana really isn't forthcoming on pricing so I suspect
that we won't like the price tag. I am speaking with another WISP who is
looking to bring equipment in for a test.

Thinking back to that conversation: These guys used Calix for their fiber
network and they liked the Calix home WiFi stuff, but they also did fixed
wireless and DOCSIS. So they wanted something like Calix’s wifi, but it had to
be independent of the Calix GPON so they could use the same system with their
fixed wireless and cable. Plume ticked all their boxes.

I have no idea what it costs.

I haven’t used it myself, but the other ISP I’ve talked to seems very happy
