Re: [AFMUG] Sms alerting

2024-05-31 Thread Josh Luthman
vtext.com is low effort and when it works great, but if it doesn't work
you're SOL. You get what you pay for.

For power outages & major events I use https://emailtovoice.net/ -
Powercode or whatever will send an email to 1231231...@service.org and
their system turns it into a voice call + text to speech. I can grasp what
the situation is while driving/walking/digging/etc after hitting answer.

For texting use Twilio's API and your system.

With both services combined I think we're at something like $10/mo.

[AFMUG] Sms alerting

2024-05-31 Thread Nate Burke
For years and years I've been using emails sent to phonenum...@vtext.com to
send network alerts to my cellphone. Recently it seems that has started
randomly rate limiting me, thereby delaying alerts for several hours. Smtp
delivery to vtext.com is just deferred with a random error message. I was
wondering how others are getting notifications to their mobile device. I could
use 10DLC via my voip carrier, but that comes with its own whole set of
regulations and possible fines when used for A2P. Verizon has an 'enterprise
messaging'
https://www.verizon.com/business/products/voice-collaboration/business-sms-solutions/
that says it is a direct replacement for vtext, but there is no pricing, so
I'm guessing it's expensive.

I like the email gateway since I send each alert from a unique email address
for that device, so on my phone in my messaging app, they are all nicely
threaded by device. Makes it really easy to track UPS statuses as a storm
rolls through and power is flashing. Is there a similar application that would

I don’t recommend the GIGE-APC-HV for anything frankly. It is a very fast

some radios. Most of our customers use the CAT6 products.

Have you tried replacing the surge suppressor card with a new one? It might
have taken a lightning hit and damaged some of the diodes.

You could switch to Chuck’s Cat6 version which is GDT (gas tube) only.
Unlikely to get damaged, but might provide less protection, Chuck could
probably speak to that.

Chuck,

I recently put a four port din rail surge suppressor chassis in production with
four MCC-800-GIGE-APC-HV cards.

A couple of months into their use the ethernet links to the radios on the tower
start flapping and renegotiating down from 1G to 100M and then eventually 10M,
and then eventually failing. When I bypass the card with a female-female RJ
connector, they come right back up at 1Gig.

These radios are powered from a MikroTik POE switch at 48v.

Any suggestions?Am I using the wrong card for 48v poe?

Thanks.
