I see panels there today as low as 10 cents per watt.

I used the UBNT SunMax calculator to put together approximate capacity,
cost, etc. numbers for a theoretical solar setup on one of our barns.

It came up with about 416 panels at about 104 kW of production, costing
about $140k. I'm assuming that's materials and not installed.

I know that when it was announced, Chuck said you can build a system for
much cheaper than what Ubiquiti was pushing.

Where would one look to see what I'd need to put one of those systems
together?

I also expect that the barns are probably too lightly constructed to support
that much of a panel load. May have to wait for one of them to get rebuilt in a
few years and make sure the roof is strong enough.

That's just what fits on the barn. There are two more (smaller) barns that
could take panels as well.

Also, based on what UBNT told me I'd collect over a year, it'd only cover 2/3
of the electric bill.

$140k. I'm assuming that's materials and not installed.

I know that when it was announced, Chuck said you can build a system for much
cheaper than what Ubiquiti was pushing.

Where would one look to see what I'd need to put one of those systems together?

[AFMUG] Larger Scale Solar

2019-12-16 Thread Mike Hammett
I used the UBNT SunMax calculator to put together approximate capacity, cost,
etc. numbers for a theoretical solar setup on one of our barns.

It came up with about 416 panels at about 104 kW of production, costing about
$140k. I'm assuming that's materials and not installed.
