Robert Kearns.

He tried to sell the invention to all of the big three, and they

He ended up in a big legal fight with Ford (after they had put it
in a couple of cars), and when Ford lost that battle, he won
  concessions from GM and Chrysler.

The movie was Flash

Re: [AFMUG] Poor Dishes on a Tower

2020-08-12 Thread Mark Radabaugh
The older SU dual carbs work OK.

The biggest issue with the electrical system is the bullet electrical
connectors. The bullet isn’t so bad - it’s soldered on the end of the wire.
The connector that the bullet goes in is the weak link. It eventually gets wet
and corrodes and the brass looses it’s tension, heats up, and then just gets
worse. Unfortunatly there are a number of those connectors under the car in
the road spray, lots just inside the front grill, and others below the carpet
in a convertible. All places that get wet sooner or later. Filling them with
silicon grease (yep - just like what works in a RJ-45) largely solves the issue
for good.

Around here theyre moving last years grain out to make room

It sucks tho, most farmers are moving away from legs and

My college roommate had a 67 E type. Got it cheap because it was in bad
condition. All sorts of questionable design and build issues, but very low
drag, the thing could fly. We used to joke if you hit a cigarette butt in the
road it would scrape the bottom of the chassis.

2020-08-12 Thread Mark Radabaugh
Joseph Lucas, the prince of darkness.

Why do germans drink warm beer? They have Lucas refrigerators

Lucas Electric - inventor of the intermittent wiper

Lucas Motto - get home before dark!

Lucas three-way light - dim, flicker, off

I still have my 73 MGB. Actually a pretty reliable car all things considered.
Has never yet left me stranded by the side of the road. I have had to beat the
fuel pump into submission a few times, drove it home without a spark plug in a
cylinder, listened to the rod knock the last 10 miles home, etc. I really
don’t have that much trouble with the electrical system though (says the
electrical engineer…).

Around here theyre moving last years grain out to make room for

Mine was probably a 80 or 81. I had a really nice brand new (maybe had it a
year or so) 79 V8 Monza. Also modified with all the smog gear off and nice
exhaust. My nephew/brother borrowed it one night. They went to the drive in
and someone puked in it it. They took out the dome light bulb and probably
dropped it because it was hot and it burned a hole in the vinyl seat. I was
sooo pissed off I went right to the Chevy dealship and bought the Z28 right off
the show room floor. Told nephew he never gets to drive that car.

Then a few years later came the wife and kid ;-).

The car did help to woo her. She loved driving it too and being seen driving
it by her girlfriends.
Looked a bit odd when I put the ski racks on it.

Little early in the summer for them to be full too, right? I am sure they are

An Illinois WISP near Peoria posted a picture of one of his sites that was
damaged. That site had similar results, just less severe. Some bins seemed to
be unaffected. A leg came down too.

Yes they are vented at the top. Yes they are mostly empty, getting ready for
the upcoming harvest. Yes they get a lot of their
structural strength from being full of corn. This picture is from Luther Iowa.

The topic came up in a discussion about portable generators, he just bought a

thats one of the pictures I saw, see how the one on the left looks like it
was punched down, the pile of corn is above the crop so that thing had to
be almost full.

Around here theyre moving last years grain out to make room for this years.
ask any farmer theyll tell you its gonna be a terrible crop, probably on
two trips to mexico and one new truck this year. Even with the wet planting
and late starts, its looking bumper. The cranes have been running 7 days
putting up new bins and legs on top of the repairs.

It sucks tho, most farmers are moving away from legs and putting up tall
bins with portable augers. one of our sites told us last year whenever he
puts new bins up next hes taking the leg down. it broke my hear, i almost
murdered a coworker at that site once and another oworker had to haull ass
there to drag me off the property

Yes they are vented at the top. Yes they are mostly empty, getting ready for
the upcoming harvest. Yes they get a lot of their

structural strength from being full of corn. This picture is from Luther Iowa.
Winds have been estimated at 100 MPH.

I imagine if they are sealed up tight, any large change in air pressure puts
quite a bit of stress on a container that large and thin. But I think there
are vents on the top. Been quite some time since I was on the top of one of
those.

Little early in the summer for them to be full too, right? I am sure they are

Yeah, I would think they would be most vulnerable when empty.

Harvestores are floppy and prone to collapse when empty, the silage is a
structural component.
