+1 …  almost everything in our management networks (which are completely
separate logically from any other networks) are dual stack.  Also for HTTPS
it’s the only form of web based management permitted (and only on devices where

Went to Denny’s with my wife this morning as the old people’s discount is 15%

She caught the spirit in which it was offered.

So we spend our lives trying to suppress natural man. I just renamed him

Re: [AFMUG] Ceragon/820C XPIC way off?

2017-10-21 Thread Sterling Jacobson
I figured this out.

No one told me, and I wasn't aware, that these Ceragon Radios has a fixed TX
and RX range per sku/hardware.

So I was trying to operate the radio a bit out of range of the hardware I guess.

How do I change the TX/RX range for each of my Ceragon radios, and how
expensive is that??

Trying to aim up these pair of radios in XPIC and it looks like I've got a lot
of issues.

This is just from trying to peak one side today.

I'll try more on the other side.

But it also appears that I've got a huge difference between the H and V radios
in dB.

I mean, is a 7dB difference equivalent to like several degrees off in H/V
rotation?

Our people tried to rotate the radio with the given groove/slack in the radio
mount, but didn't seem to change anything.

Re: [AFMUG] Ceragon/820C XPIC way off?

The range is printed on the radio with the serial number. It should be
obvious what the range supports for that radio.

You cannot change the range the radio operates in. You would need a
different radio head to support the band you want to operate in.

You can't. Basically if that's the case you have the wrong hardware for
the sub-band you're trying to use.

So you can either try and mod your license to get into the sub-band your
hardware is for, or replace the hardware.

Changing your license is obviously gonna be the cheaper option, if the
channels you need are open.

I remember the first time I used one of the 820's I thought it was weird
the UI would let you set a frequency outside the hardware range. Others
like SAF and Exalt won't.

I'm deploying Bright WiFi if that's how bad their customer service/presale
support is and apparently they don't need new customers. It's good to be busy,
it's bad to diss companies that are trying to give you business.

So, we are ready to ditch Wispmon, have no interest in deploying Sonar since it

Brightwifi but my techs have talked to them several times and they keep getting
told that other calls are coming in or someone is walking into a meeting within
a minute or two and they never call back Nothing personal but there is no way
I’m deploying Bright WiFi if that’s how bad their customer service/presale
support is and apparently they don’t need new customers. It’s good to be busy,
it’s bad to diss companies that are trying to give you business.

So, we are ready to ditch Wispmon, have no interest in deploying Sonar since it
doesn’t have the features we need, and find something that can use Mikrotik
devices since we have so many egress points. We already wrote one in house we
deployed for MDU units so I’ll upgrade it if there isn’t a better product
available. However, if there is something else out there that can do WISP and
Hot-Spots, I’d be very interested in looking at it immediately.

SIAE and cambium both make radios that will do above 1gb, you'll need to
work with the vendor to figure out the best way to get to 2gb. But with
enough radios and lacp, you should be able to do it. Assuming you have the
spectrum.

For 22 miles, you're probably looking at lower 6GHz. If you can get two
60MHz channel pairs both in H & V, I believe you can do dual
PTP820C/IP20C's at each end for a little over 2.2 (2.4?) Gbps full
duplex. Been a while since I looked at all of the different supported
configurations though, so I might be remembering wrong.

The new bridgewave navigator can run 4 channels total. So about 600mbps x 4
= 2.4 gbps full duplex. You would need to have two 80mhz channels available
in both vertical and horizontal polarities to work with that much
bandwidth.

Re: [AFMUG] AF24 max distance rain zone K

2017-10-21 Thread George Skorup
I have a couple AF24 (non HD) links around almost exactly a mile. And a
few more between 2.1 and 2.8 miles. The 1 mile links are obviously
better in the rain, but they all drop out in heavy storms. 1 mile maybe
10 minutes, 2+ miles anywhere between 20-40 minutes depending on the
intensity. This is why I have 5GHz backup paths even for the short
links. Most of them aren't parallel with the 24GHz. They were simply
existing links that we left in place when we short-cut with some AF24's.
