Re: [AFMUG] Ubiquiti Rocket 5AC Prism - GPS?

2016-09-23 Thread Peter Kranz
My experience is that with AC PRISM APs, the need for sync has been reduced, so
I am happy they are working on backwards compatibility first.

I’ve been able to pack more APs on my towers where I went all PRISM than I was
able to with the previous generation.

Ben,

I can only imagine. We are definitely waiting to see what happens. As it
stands it still looks like the Rocket AC PRISM will be a great drop in
upgrade to existing sites to help end users experiences on M gear.. with
sync it would make it a absolute no questions asked path.

Yeah, I hope they get sync working someday, but I'm definitely not going to
buy anything with the expectation of it being added.

If they came out with a 2.4ghz AP with working backwards compatibility and
sync, I would happily order a couple hundred of them...

Yes...We chose to do backwards compatibility first. There is a lot
involved there...and as customers are reporting, there have been some great
updates recently with this, which allows us to work on the next steps...

Backwards Compatibility with Sync is more important to us.

Working sync will bring UBNT back to the table for future deployments for

Re: [AFMUG] Ubiquiti Rocket 5AC Prism - GPS?

2016-09-23 Thread Ben Moore
Yes, with 30-40m+ airmax devices shipped we felt like the mixed
mode/backwards compatibility was most important. This allows for M series
CPE's to be used and allow for transition to AC. As Adair mentioned we are
seeing some great results in field with the new AC AP's and M series and AC
series CPE'S. Then work on getting GPS out.

We will be doing demo's throughout WISPA show on new AC mixed mode and
other updates. Will send schedule of demo's early next week.

Thanks,

I agree. I've definitely come to believe Ubnt can't do sync. They can do
a lot of things, but sync is not one that I will ever expect to see.

Not including AF since it's PTP.

Re: [AFMUG] Ubiquiti Rocket 5AC Prism - GPS?

2016-09-23 Thread Mathew Howard
I'm not sure that many people are waiting for sync to deploy UBNT gear at
this point... I think most people have either moved on to other gear or
designed their networks to work without sync. Backwards compatibility could
very well be more important to more people at this point.

Backwards compatibility might have been more important to their existing
user basewho don't have GPS now to begin with.

From a sales perspective it is stupid, I know several guys waiting to
deploy gear because everyone that has promised GPS does not have it
working. They could be selling more gear rather than having people on
