I've been using GPS Essentials. The Satellites feature shows 
visible/tracking satellites on a compass grid.


As Chuck says, you need to just evaluate visible sky. Metal & concrete 
be bad. Blue sky (cyan actually) be good.

GPS Status works very well for us.

More sky is better.  Not sure there is any other thing to worry about.  
Obviously you don’t want the sky blocked by anything conductive.  You don’t 
want it blocked by anything, but conductive materials are the worst.  You don’t 
want the antenna to be close to tower legs or anything else.  The farther away 
the better.
