Re: [agi] The Job market.

2019-09-29 Thread James Bowery
Actually, what is degenerate is the attempt to portray key concepts of AGI
as less than vitally involved in determining whether we suffer a civil war
over "race". AGI is the attempt to formalize rationality in such a way
that irrationality such as "racism" is rigorously, rather than emotionally
or morally, dispatched to the dustbin of history.

Instead, what we get are attempts to regulate the outcome of rigorous model
selection criteria offered by AGI, so as to conform to widely accepted
notions of rationality -- and this is justified on _moral_ grounds. This
is theocratic supremacy, and it will produce a conflict similar in quality
to that which killed 25% of Europe's population to escape theocratic
supremacy ending in the Peace of Westphalia after over a hundred years of
religious wars.

When I talk about the relevance of "Solomonoff Induction" to software
engineering in the context of cheap foreign labor, not only am I deadly
serious, I'm speaking from direct experience with the highest levels of
Microsoft Corporation. To wit, not only did I go to college with Ray
Ozzie, to whom Gates turned over chief architect position, but Ray
considered me one of his more gifted colleagues -- enough so that I was one
of the few he attempted to recruit into Iris Associates circa 1985. When
Ray took over at MS, I approached him with Solomonoff Induction's value via
what became the Hutter Prize for Lossless Compression of Human Knowledge.
Moreover, I suggested that software engineering quality be advanced at
Microsoft by offering an internal prize for the teams that could produce
ever smaller executable images that would expand into an environment
passing MS's QA for the entire suite of MS software.

Those who don't understand how this would advance the state of the art in
software quality, software engineering and AGI are, sad to say, typical of
the field -- all the more so with the addiction not only to H-1b guest
slavery, but to the highly evolved sycophancy of ancient cultures that can
smell economic rent streams from across the globe and pull out all the
stops to capture it from less highly evolved elites lulled into an opiated
sleep by monopoly profits.

Now, for the coup de grace, my dear anti-racist friends:

Theories of social causality are notoriously difficult to in/validate due
to the lack of experimental controls teasing correlation from causation.
So we're left wandering in a miasma of quasi-theological rhetoric posing as
"social science". HOWEVER, if the combination of explosions in
bioinformatics, social data collection and computation capacity could be
brought together with Solomonoff Induction's model selection criterion of
maximally compressed data, words like "racism" might enjoy something of a
renaissance of legitimacy with rigorous operational definitions, rather
than killing off 25% of the people of the west.

I would STRONGLY advise those of you who identify with the immigrant
population, now occupying the heights of the information industry, to
relax, recognize that you don't need to block men like me from influencing
you now that we are at retirement age and can no longer threaten to take
your high levels of authority, and act like you have something to lose now
that you've captured Western Civilization's nervous system. This is about
as friendly as I can be with supremacists.

At least nowadays immigrants do not kill everybody upon disembarking, like
WASP boat-people did years ago when they came from the actual slum that was
Ireland.

See "Individualism and the Western Liberal Tradition

for why there will be a civil war in the near future that may well destroy
Western Civilization (at least as we know it).

Capture of network effects is the opiate of the elites.  The opiated elites can
afford short-term profligacy such as paying a low cost per line of code in
defiance of Solomonoff Induction, and, being opiated, they pay that price.

[agi] The Job market.

2019-09-29 Thread Alan Grimes via AGI

I live in the DC area.

That means just about every major employer in the area requires some
level of a Top Secret Security clearance due to government contracts.
These are only ever offered to the brightest college seniors from the
local colleges. It takes about a year to actually secure one of these,
and can only be sponsored. Anyone older than a college senior is not
worth the investment.

(I'm 41, soon 42).

The job boards that cover my area are dominated by fossilized job
postings, these have been up for many months at a time. Apparently some
corporations do this just for internal budgetary reasons and have no
intention of hiring anyone, if it isn't actually just a zombie listing.

There is probably a pool of several thousand unemployed programmers and
IT people in the area. One job I applied for for simple IT work had over
440 applicants. Jobs that I believe to be legitimate are often filled in
less than 18 hours of being posted.

One suburb of the DC area, Bethesda Maryland, was noted for having a
population of 7,700 indians on H1-B visas, ofcourse these are displacing
any American with the chutzpah to think he could get a job in a hot
field in his own country...

I keep an eye on posts regarding visas and Trump's efforts to cut back
on the visa programs. One poster described the life of a person who
thought getting a computer science degree would set him up for life.
Well, the degree renders one "overqualified" for all other positions and
therefore unemployable.

There are laws against age discrimination but they can't really be
enforced.

I don't think I made any really bad mistakes in my life but nevertheless
I'm a doomed individual. The liberals have been so papered throughout
their life that they seem to think that all one needs to get on the boat
in this society is the will to climb over the rail. That is false, a
total lie.

In the coming months, the world will pay quite dearly for fucking over
my life.

THEY WILL PAY, ALL OF THEM!!!

I'm overtired right now, the heat of summer has not yet broken and I'm
not getting good sleeps. Still 80 degrees in here with the AC on at 3
AM... (my main computer contining an 8 month number theory computation
is not helping)

Anyway, I'll post about AI again when I'm in a better mood.
