[Ai] [AI] Seeking info on Braille printing facility

2017-07-16 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa via Ai
Dear all
Is there any Braille press which prints Braille books on individual
demand in small quantity, three or four copies?
I came across about such an organisation last year in this mailing
list. But unfortunately I didn't save the information and now can't
find the same in the thread archive too.
Looking for some authentic information.

Warmly
Leikhu Laishram

Re: [Ai] Story from Uganda: Blindness does not stop this beekeeper, baker, and kayaker from expanding their vision

2017-07-01 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa via Ai
My heartfelt congratulation to Simon. We spent a couple of months
together when he came to India in 2012 and now we are good friends.
Last year he was awarded Mandela fellowship for young africans. May
God bless him.

Re: [Ai] Query about uptaining Air Fare Concession

2017-06-27 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa via Ai
Dear list member
Now a days flight concessional fare doesn't make any sense. Just book
in advance with the cheapest fare available for your date of journey
in any airline. Airline fares are dynamic. The more in advance you
book the more you get cheaper. Visit makemytrip.com or yatra.com or
any other travel site of your choice.

Re: [Ai] [SayEverything] Can we discuss hard truth: why blind and the deaf people are less represented in the government/private sectors in India? what can we do about it?

2017-06-26 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa via Ai
Dear all

Its true that majority of the NGOs for the blind are just imparting
computer training only. But employability skill is not only computer
literacy. In my opinion we can follow the model of Enable India's
employability training module where they take into account every
aspect i.e. mobility and orientation, communication skill,
understanding corporate sector from business perspective, time
management, stress handling, personal grooming, etc.

Re: [Ai] Uber and Ola services for VI

2017-05-22 Thread Leikhu Laishram Leingakpa via AI
Hi Vaishnav
I'm using Uber frequently in Guwahati for the last two years. With
regard to the apps Uber is very much accessible, Ola apps
accessibility is very poor. Though I tried a couple of times to use
Ola I couldn't use it.
However there are certain difficulties using these services from the
perspective of a visually impaired. When I tell the drivers to come to
a particular place some of the drivers have no idea of the location.
Moreover, google map, on which the drivers depend are not totally
dependable in places like ours.
Another problem is that sometimes the distance between the driver and
myself is shown very near. But because of oneway traffic and no entry
in the crossings the practical distance becomes even to the extend of
three KM.
Looking forward

It is totally against the principle of equal justice. Though some
people may sympathise, taking up the issue in social media would be
appropriate. However we need to strongly argue for equality and be
very clear that we don't want sympathy. If you tweet please tag the
same to our PM. I hope he'll definitely intervene.

Dear friends, with lot of sadness I am shooting this message. Today I
went to buy a air conditioner in that shop I found bajaj finance
offering 0% finance. then i approached them they asked about my job
profile and asked about my details as it is regular task. On the
basis of my blindness they told that they are not ready to give loan.
When I heared this I was totally upset with that words. they insulted
infront of my brother. My self respect and dignity was damaged due to
their words. Why the society does not allow us to leave like a normal
person. for us. to whom should I complaint this issue? Kindly
escalate this issue to RBI and high official of bajaj finance. Any
guidelines by RBI regarding this matter?

Kindly reply me as early as possible. please complaint this issue to
 proper authority.

 thanks and regards,
 sazid
