right prateek, how can a consensus sex be converted to rape? if that widow was
not agreed on her first encounter, why she did not go to police after first
encounter? she was waiting far 2 years to trap that man?
unfortunately, men have to suffer in india due to these gender biased laws.

The widow went in a guest house with the boy to have sexual relationship by her
will and continued going on repeated basis. How can this be even called rape is
the question.
@Avinash, I agree that the silver lining is that women knocked the door of
court and found a favorable judgement, but I believe that this can further
de-motivate men to have sexual relationship with women, even if the women are
consenting to do so.
Who would want to get into troubles like this, even after having done sex with
consent of the woman afterall.
The judgement would strengthen the opinion that blind women are not quite
sexual being, which is already a prevalent belief in the society.
This is truly illogical and one-sided in my opinion.
Unfortunate.

Prateek agarwal.

Yes the news suggests that the man has promised marriage and on
that pretext this sexual relationship was established, but things
may happen in the course of 2 years that may force a person to not

Personally, I feel that the laws are sometimes being miss used by

Re: [Ai] Can we discuss hard truth: why blind and the deaf people are less represented in the government/private sectors in India? what can we do about it?

2017-06-26 Thread PAULMUDDHA via Ai
I feel there should be a change in the attitude with respect to assigned jobs
and learn new things, know ideas owing to changes in technology, market
situation and above all the software is some time not supporting the job
profile.
A small example, inspite of improved version of Jaws 18, the work in Canarabank
is inaccessible when it comes to the main aspect of work in Creditcard division
where the blind are employed.
I am being informed that few of the visually challenged employed in banks do
not willing to perform their duties just because they are not provided software.
We must try to be proactive in exhibiting their talents and impress upon the
authorities that persons are interested to do something in life.

The recruitment of visually impaired individuals in the I T sector in India is
a big eye wash.

With very few exceptions, most visually impaired individuals are employed
either at entry level or a notch above entry level and that too in either
accessibility or accessibility testing. That said, these companies employ the
visually impaired only because they don't have an option. When was the last
time you met a sighted individual totally proficient in the latest version of
JAWS with capabilities exceeding those of us?

All you need to do is to look around and you will notice that the top profiles
from our visually impaired community, even at the international level, mostly
belong to the accessibility sub-segment. They have gravitated toward
accessibility simply because the possibility of their being hired for anything
else other than accessibility by the so called forward looking I T enterprises
is one in a million. It has nothing to do with their capabilities.

I don't expect the I T corporates to end their proverbial lip service any time
soon owing to their self-centered agendas.

Instead of wasting their time and pleading to I T employers for jobs, the young
and smart minds from our community should consider exploring the startup eco
system and gradually step into tech entrepreneurship. It goes without saying
that such an exploration requires a phenomenal amount of guidance, commitment,
patience and discipline.

I wish there was an NGO in India that would help visually impaired millennials
with tech entrepreneurship. If you know of one, please share the information
with all of us.

Of the top of my head, I would offer two critical reasons why blind and deaf
people are being left behind when it comes to employment in the IT sector.

1. Poor quality of education. No access to quality.
2. Wide spread ignorance and not so favourable perceptions.

Other ideas can pour in.

In the IT sector , blind and the deaf people are grossly less represented and
almost all jobs are going to persons with locomotor disabilities. Read this
report published on the Hyderabad page in the Hindu. “Visually challenged and
hearing impaired people are still trickling into offices."
Can we have latest disability-wise data on employment which would help us in
offering better policy recommendation.

» Indian on the outside, Swedish on the inside Indian on
the outside, Swedish on the inside April 27, 2017 10:00 IST Born and
abandoned in Mumbai, reborn in Sweden, Erika Sandberg says she is Indian on
the outside, but feels Swedish on the inside.
Rediff.com's Vaihayasi Pande Daniel narrates her tale.

Illustration: Dominic Xavier In August 1976, a Swissair jet flew out of the
monsoon skies of Bombay, due west, with a precious little bundle onboard.
The Boeing was headed for Zurich. In Switzerland probably another air
hostess took careful charge of this special delivery as she boarded a flight
headed to Stockholm. Waiting for her at Arlanda airport, likely torn between
anxiety and hope, were Inga-Maja, 38, and Conny Sandberg, 39, from Mölnbo,
a village about 55 km southwest of Stockholm; she a teacher, he, the owner
of a small trucking business. That day -- August 22 -- was Inga-Maja and
Conny's first meeting with their Indian daughter, eight-month-old Sheetala
who they had adopted.
They brought Sheetala home, along with her grey Swissair bag of meagre
possessions, including the airline blanket. She ate just a little -- her
stomach was upset -- and would not sleep in a bed, preferring the floor.

made a bed for her on the ground in front of the fireplace, in the living
room, along with herself and their boxer, Babs. "It was summer. The dog and
Mum were sleeping next to me. And my stomach was very upset. (But she said)
I was very happy; I was a very contented child," says Sheetala. So ended
Sheetala's first day in Sweden. Settling into Inga-Maja and Conny's warm,
loving home was nearly effortless for the parentless tot who had only known
the inside of a orphanage in Matunga, central Mumbai. Sheetala, now Erika,
grew to adulthood in the Sandbergs' white-brick, three-storied home, with a
garden and apple trees, in an idyllic Swedish village, so distant from
Matunga. Mölnbo, not that far from Mälaren lake and the Baltic Sea, is
surrounded by forests and meadows of flowers; a pretty place where daily
rhythms are probably dictated by the seasons and nature. Her father named
her Erika "after someone he liked very much when he was young." The little
Swedish-Indian girl -- "Indian on the outside," as Erika refers to herself,
with a laugh -- attended the local school and then the high school nearby.

model parents who had nurtured scores of economically underprivileged
children. "They were very amazing people." Photographs: Kind courtesy Swaran
Ahuja. Erika was brought up, she says, to be proud of being adopted and
thanks to her parents rather secure in her identity, even if it was an
atypical one. Erika was also reared surrounded by a string of cousins, of
nearly the same age, from her mom's side, with whom she remains very close,
along with brother Sten. She knew from the age of 9 that she was going to be
a teacher. Her family was full of teachers. After graduation, before heading
to university in Stockholm, at 18, which degree qualified her to teach
grades one to seven, she began teaching formally at a school at Gnesta,
close to Mölnbo and later in Stockholm, working mainly with immigrant
children. Erika moved abroad for various stints, between teaching. To
Australia.
To Egypt and Jordan to further understand Arabic culture. She helped make a
documentary on El Qoseir, a fishing village on the Red Sea, near the
touristy Hugada, in Egypt. In Amman, Jordan, she worked with disabled
Palestinian refugee children. In between trips to Australia, the Middle East
and working in Gnesta, Erika made that first memorable 'return' trip to
India, like many other children adopted in the West.
Inga-Maja wanted her daughter to have a chance to track her roots and
culture. Erika with her mother Inga-Maja IMAGE: Her mother Inga-Maja
