Craig,

I have done some work with neural networks in the spatial arena. Here is a
link to one of my papers that was recently accepted by CIM Bulletin (Journal
of Exploration Geology).

The other papers (not in spatial stat) that I did which you might find
useful (and where some of the concepts I talk about are first presented):

http://www.faculty.uaf.edu/ffrg/papers/Paper_CAMI2003.pdf

As regards software, I have used Neuroshell2 (www.wardsystems.com) and found
it easy to use. I also write my own code if necessary.

Hi,

Sorry for the cross-post.

I am looking for literature sources of examples of research done in GIS/RS
using neural networks or artificial intelligence.
I am doing my PHD study and part of it will be to try and identify areas of
vulnerability by combining socio-economic data, census data and landcover
information. I would like to use neural networks to try and map these areas.
Could someone perhaps recommend some software as well.
I have done a google search and there is a lot of information to sift
through, but I'd like to find out from the GIS and spatial statistics
community first hand.

Thanks
Craig

I agree about Gina Clemmer's posting. It should not have appeared on the
list.
My mistake (I don’t read all mails in details)

Geoeas, GSTAT, R are free and open sources.

Have all a nice week-end !

Dear Gregoire (and everyone else)

I did not consider my contribution to be an advert but
a public information notice.

Readers such as Michele Scardi who see this as cheap advertising,
attribute me with far more subtlety than I actually possess.

The tolerance of our readers seems to stretch to
endless user support for GSTAT/R etc and for other
people promoting conferences and courses - most recent
example being "Gina Clemmer"
<[EMAIL PROTECTED]> who placed a formal advertisement for
"Mapping Los Angeles: An Introduction to GIS" on 28th January 2004
without a single indignant comment from any member of the list.

And yes... please, nobody should substitute the moderator (who can also be
away from his mail for a few hours or even days).

I don't want to see the usual civil wars on the list.

AI-GEOSTATS: Rules....

2004-02-06 Thread Gregoire Dubois
When subscribing to the list, everyone agreed to follow a certain number of
rules, from which the two first ones are

1) As requested by the subscribers, commercial announcements are NOT supposed
to be sent to the list.

2) Announcements of COURSES, new BOOKS and SOFTWARE should be sent to me
instead of to the list. I will put them a.s.a.p. on the web.

These rules sound clear in theory, in practice they are not always easy to
follow. Isobel is partly right about workshops and conferences and signatures
can also be seen as some kind of advertising...

Anyhow, as the moderator of ai-geostats, I will still make the distinction
between courses (one actor, the teacher) and conferences/workshops (everyone
potentially actors). Hence, the financial flow is more or less omnidirectional
in the last case, anisotropical in the first one. Thus, no courses should be
sent to the list directly.

This approach may not satisfy everyone but that's the easiest solution for me
(I don't want to spend my time deciding whether or not a mail should be posted
or not).

The ai-geostats web site is there for you all to provide/get any kind of
information (commercial and non commercial issues), so please, no more
discussion about this issue on the list, use the web pages instead.

Gregoire (owner, and policeman, of ai-geostats)
