And one other thing, what version of Tunein are you using? I'm using Tunein
Pro and things work here with my VPN so I can't say the same for the free
version of Tunein.

I seem to have narrowed it down to a make called Doss. I've never heard of

You can never go wrong with any kind of B&O product. Pricy but good.

Hi there and good to see you after your too long an absence That
speaker doesn’t sound familiar to me though I’m not surprised as there are
millions upon millions of Bluetooth speakers out there all looking for your
attention.
Some are incredibly worthwhile attention seekers whilst the majority
unfortunately seem to have one problem or other.
Having a lightning port as a charging connector doesn’t surprise me, obviously
this Bluetooth speaker was designed to be used in conjunction with IOS.
The Lightning port has an uncertain future so I’d stay away from thise if
possible and elect to go with something that has a USB C port.
A round speaker as you described it makes me think of Logitech though it could
be a million others.
I’m glad you mentioned Bluetooth speakers as I’ve been in conversation with a
friend who has several different pairs of Bluetooth speakers, like me he’s
addicted to his audio and particularly Bluetooth speakers right now so I’ll go
through the 3 pairs I know Tom has and summaries his comments on those.
Tom bought a JBL Charge 4 and it seems a nice sounding package for what it is
however hands free quality is dreadful and we’ve tested this using FaceTime and
IOS devices obviously, the JBL is at the bottom of the pile.
Next Tom bought some Key Muo speakers - hope I got the spelling right - for
around $300 US I believe.
These speakers have a very nice sound but lack a little bass, incredibly
portable at less than 4 inches high each.
You will need two of these if you want a stereo pair.
Those who know Kef speakers will appreciate the Uni-Cue drivers - one driver
with the woofer making up the driver with a small tweeter in the centre, this
arrangement seems to disperse sound around a room more evenly without a sweet
spot, the Key Egg system I have uses such an arrangement though on a larger
scale.
Unfortunately the Key Muo’s don’t have hands free speakerphone capability and I
have no objection to that as its quality sound I’m after.
Tom’s top of the range speaker at the moment in his opinion is the B&O P6
speakers and I’m trying to find a place where I may go to listen to some of
these as - going by Tom’s description and from tests we’ve done with the hands
free - they sound spectacular in every way.
Again you’ll need a pair of these little beauties if you want stereo sound and
the price isn’t cheap but quality from B&O comes at a price, $600 per speaker
unit.
The P6 is portable with a battery lasting for 22 hours I believe.
The Hands Free is one of the best I’ve ever heard from a Bluetooth speaker.
I still have my B&W T7 speaker which is nearly 3 years old.
B&W are still selling this user which is a wonderful testament to the quality
sound and build of the T7 in my opinion.
Nothing wrong with looking around at what other company’s have to offer of
course which is exactly what I’ll be doing shortly.

Hi all

Want to know if some of you technical gurus can help me.

Someone gave me a Bluetooth speaker to test for her.

This is one of the strangest Bluetooth speakers I have ever worked with!

Firstly, it uses an apple lightning port to charge from and not a micro usb
port. So you would need a lightning to USB port to charge it with.

The speaker stands on a base upright and is slightly thinner at the top. It
is rubberised on the side but it seems if you can remove the rubber. It’s
also a completely sircular speaker.

The on and off switch is on the bottem underneath the speaker so you cannot
accidentaly slide it. Under the rubber there also seems to be some buttons.
There is a very clearly distinguishable button which may be a volume up and
down button but which you can also press inwards.

The best make I can come up with is

Vulkan

But I am at a luss to find a manual for this thing.

Does this sound familiar to anyone?

Re: [all-audio] Question about changing pitch without touching the tempo of an audio file

2019-05-15 Thread André van Deventer
Brian

I am in somewhat of a same situation although in my case it is muy brain
that does the pitch change.

Since my second cochlear implant I have lost all the frequencies below 100
hz. What now seems to happen is that my brain has transposed all the
frequencies below 100 hz to the range above that. I cannot really describe
the sound I get but it is definitely there! You can hear them as long as
they are not to crowded out by other frequencies in the middle range. Weird
business!

I will give it a shot, and you are right an octave is quite a lot to move a

Greetings,

GoldWave will do the job.

There is a checkbox for tempo unchanged, check this for whatever you need,
say decrease by one octave, the sound is bound to be degraded slightly
because you are altering it's nature but the bird sound ought to be
acceptable.

It's in the effects menu and is very customizeable.

An interesting choice but perhaps a rather costly one.
You're going to have to buy 2 of these speakers if you want stereo sound and
that's probably fair enough from B&O's point of view as you'll get good
separation.
I'm still using my B&W T7 which I bought nearly 2 years ago.
I'm looking at the B&O review now.
The author complains that the B&O Bluetooth speker isn't watertight? Well I
don't give a damn about such things, I'm only interested in the audio
quality and not marketing gimmiks.
The B&O supports APTX which is great but not so important if you're planning
to use the device with a piece of Apple hardware and I truly wish this would
change.
The author of the review I'm reading makes a point of mentioning the looks
of the B&O speaker? Again that's something that doesn't worry me so long as
I get good sound and preferably good enough sound that makes my speaker
stand out from the pack which this speaker does it seems.
Before you rush out to buy one I do suggest that you look at some other
speakers such as the B&W T7 or the Keef Muo I think its called.
The B&W T7 is a stereo Bluetooth speaker with surprisingly good separation
and sound given the size of the device and as you already have a B&W system
you will pretty much have some idea of what the T7 sounds like.
The Muo has to be paired to get stereo sound.
Anyway just my thoughts.

Tab through the scheduler. You will come to a list of scheduled events. It
can take a little doing to identify these events, since the name you gave
may not be the name that appears in the schedule. But you can focus on an
event, then shift+tab to read the various bits of information about the
event. Once you identify the event you want to update, alter those fields
as needed, then click Update Event.

That all said an iPhone still lacks the high bit and sampling rates that a
dedicated recorder or even an Android phone can offer.
Last I checked the iPhone could only record up to 48KHZ, enough for voice
perhaps.
Regarding the microphone of the iPhone not being of high quality? Well friends
I have to disagree with that statement somewhat, if you can turn off all the
processing on the iPhone behind the microphone then the internal microphone of
the iPhone indeed does a very fair job c considering what it is.
Obviously external microphones can be of higher quality still.

you can use your iPhone as a high-quality recorder.
I would recommend the app called recorder HQ. In terms of microphones, I would
look at microphones like the scheur MV 88 and some of the road microphones that

Re: [all-audio] cleaning up vinyl records?

2018-04-26 Thread André van Deventer
Anders

I have a rega iii of more than 20 years back long before the days of USB!

The thing is built like a tank - all metal. It has no gears or anything like
that. You lift the head with a small hydraulic lift and place it in the
beginning of the record. When you come to the end of the record you again have
to use the hydraulic lift and move the head by hand. If you want to change the
speed 33 to 45 rpm you have to remove that heavy platter and by hand and put it
on another pully.

But man the sound of that thing is quite something special.

I must go and look at a review of the new usb one.

Re: [all-audio] cleaning up vinyl records?

2018-04-25 Thread André van Deventer
You will find that even if records have been stored securely some dust will
accumulate on it and in the grooves. You would be surprised what a difference
a newly cleaned record can make.

True though I suppose we all assumed that people keep their records clean
.
Since we’ve gone this far - if you want a good quality result - then stay away
from those dreaded USB turntables and get a proper turntable along with a good
Fono amp though some turntables come with this nowadays.
If you have access to a recorder such as an Olympus LS-100 then you’d do very
well to record directly to that rather than sample to your computer, you can
transfer the recording to your computer from the recorder for the extra work.
The Olympus LS-100 will allow you to use 96K sampling at 24 bit which I use to
make sure I’m getting the maximum I can out of my Vinyl.
I’ll upload a sample of what I’ve done for comment.

Re: [all-audio] cleaning up vinyl records?

2018-04-24 Thread André van Deventer
But even more important than that is that the record must be cleaned
thoroughly before playing it. Without that you will never get a good digital
recording no matter how much you try to clean it out with software.

There are many theories out there for properly cleaning your records. It is
worth it investing in a good record cleaning brush at least. Secondluy some
good record cleaning fluid.

Whatever you do stay away from anything called Crosslee!

Firstly I suggest that you look to see that your Vinyl isn’t already available
on CD or other alternative media.
Then I reckon you should look at some of the dedicated software out there for
cleaning Vinyl such as Vinyl Studio which is available in a light and a paid
version both for Mac and Windows, both versions are easily accessible and the
paid version doesn’t cost too much.
If you do get Vinyl studio then just don’t rush in, read the help file as it
contains some most useful tips that will help you in the long run.
