Re: [all-audio] Converting an AVI file with GoldWave to mp3
You need to install a lame.dll encoder to accomplish this (steps and links below). GoldWave Frequently Asked Questions: https://goldwave.com/faq.php#recsrc How do I save files in MP3 format? To save and create MP3 files the LAME MP3 Encoder must be installed. Recent versions of GoldWave include the encoder. Some older versions download it automatically if you have an active Internet connection when you save the first MP3 file. However due to a change in the the web server, older versions of GoldWave may not be able to download the encoder automatically. To manually install LAME: list of 3 items nesting level 1 1. Download the LAME_ENC.DLL encoder list of 2 items nesting level 2 ◦ 32 bit version: https://goldwave.com/downloads/lame_enc.dll ◦ 64 bit version: https://goldwave.com/downloads/lame_enc64.dll list end nesting level 2 2. Copy the LAME_ENC.DLL file into your GoldWave folder. If you downloaded the 64 bit version, rename the file from LAME_ENC64.DLL to LAME_ENC.DLL. 3. Now when you try to save a file as MP3 in GoldWave, use the Browse button instead of the Download button on the Encoder Download window to specify the folder where the LAME_ENC.DLL file is located. -Original Message- From: all-audio@groups.io On Behalf Of Michael Amaro Sent: Tuesday, June 23, 2020 14:23 To: all-audio@groups.io Subject: [all-audio] Converting an AVI file with GoldWave to mp3 Hello Listers, How do I convert an AVI file to mp3 using GoldWave? So I called my computer guy, who in turn came and took a look; he said, sure enough, that the CD-DVD Burner drive had died, but that he could get me a new one in a few days! Unfortunately, the Coronavirus screwed everything up (still have not heard from the computer guy) in the meantime, I was told that Amazon had USB CD-DVD drives that would do the same thing! So with the help of a good friend of mine, I found one on Amazon (is a Dell, but don't remember the model number) is supposed to be able to play CDs, burn CDs and rip.the whole thing! I got the new CD-DVD drive a couple of days ago; this afternoon, a friend of mine who helps take care of my yard came by to cut the grass; he had this CD that he wanted me to listen to! So I decided I'd put this new drive through its paces and see what it'd do; I put the CD into the drive and.Winamp did come up and the CD started to play! So here's where the "fun" begins: I decided I'd rip it to my computer! I brought up Cdex, expecting to see the tracks to be ripped and.nothing! Zero! What am I supposed to do to make Cdex understand that I want to rip this CD? Am I forgetting something? As best as I remember, when I used to rip CDs with the original drive that was in the computer, I could just pop that bad boy in there, bring up Cdex and it was ready to rock and roll; not so with this new CD-DVD drive! Did I buy the wrong thing? I was surely thinking that this little USB Drive would do what I needed; it said that it would burn and rip! So what am I missing here? If someone can give me instruction here, I'd sure appreciate it! Tom Kaufman -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group. Re: [all-audio] Seeking a Rough Quality Comparison
Saying that 44.1KHz at 128kbps is CD quality is extensively inaccurate, but I too hear this from many who think it actually has validity. 44.1KHz at 128kbps is just the default settings to a lot of rippers, nothing more and nothing less. What .CDA quality actually is is very similar to 100% uncompressed wave files which are created at 16bit 44.1KHz. what you the user selectively chooses to rip these tracks at is the actual question. What truly seemed to be being asked in that question (at least with my limited perspective anyway), is how certain bitrates of .M4A files how they'd compare to .MP3 files and which bitrate would be recommended which again, is always a matter of perspective. Which is why I explained it the way that I did, because always, it's a matter of perspective as is everything and best for the individual with the actual ears to hear to determine. -Original Message- From: all-audio@groups.io [mailto:all-audio@groups.io] On Behalf Of Steve Jacobson Sent: Saturday, January 11, 2020 7:14 AM To: all-audio@groups.io Subject: Re: [all-audio] Seeking a Rough Quality Comparison While what you say makes sense, I'm not sure that is really what is being asked but I could be wrong. We know that a 128KBPS MP3 is said to be approximately CD quality, so 160KBPS would presumably be a little better. We might disagree whether that is truly better than a CD, but I think we would all agree that 160KBPS is better sounding that 32 or 64KBPS stereo. So where does 160KBPS MP3 settings fit into M4A settings to get approximately the same quality? There may not be an answer we could absolutely agree on, but one would think there would be some approximate corresponding setting. Keep in mind, I myself do not own or have never used this mic. This is all information (pasted below) grabbed from the web. Blue Snowball Microphone User Guide | Academic Divisional Computing: https://www.adc.ucsc.edu/tutorials/audio/blue-snowball-microphone-user-guide 3. The switch has three settings: "1" records what is directly aimed at the mic, and reduces ambient noise. This setting is good for recording in the lab, which has some building noise. "2" also records directional sound, but contains more ambient noise. "3" records omnidirectional noise, it will contain much of the sound surrounding the mic. This setting is good for recording several speakers in a conversation. And I am sure that you'd be similar to myself of not being sure of where position 1 would be positioned. I would guess to the left if you're facing it. Simply try it for yourself and record yourself because you will be able to hear the differences from each pickup/position. -Original Message- From: all-audio@groups.io [mailto:all-audio@groups.io] On Behalf Of George Zaynoun Sent: Thursday, March 7, 2019 8:44 PM To: all-audio@groups.io Subject: [all-audio] Blue Snowball Can somebody tell me please what does the button that has three positions do with each position respectively? -- Georges Zeinoun Timmerv. 6A ITR LGH1102, 54163 SKÖVDESWEDEN Tel: +46 (500) 48 29 29 Mobile: +46 (70) 366 63 29 -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group. Feel free to grab Winamp from ninite.com. -Original Message- From: all-audio@groups.io [mailto:all-audio@groups.io] On Behalf Of Gerardo Corripio Sent: Monday, November 05, 2018 5:10 AM To: all-audio@groups.io Subject: Where to download? RE: [all-audio] panning in Winamp Where can Idownload Winamp forWindows10 if it’s OK to ask on here? I know a newer versión of Winamp Willbecome, or is available, but from where, or whatversion of Winamp do you guys use and Works OK with Windows10 and NVDA? Thanks for info, and for the tips you guys are mentioning about panning etc. Enviado desde Correo para Windows 10 De: Aman Singer Enviado: lunes, 5 de noviembre de 2018 06:54 a. m. Para: all-audio@groups.io Asunto: Re: [all-audio] panning in Winamp Hi Geoff, If I may ask, are you using either Jaws or NVDA? If you are using Jaws, press alt+ctrl+k while in Winamp. This should centre your sound. If you are using NVDA with the Winamp extender add-on, press shift+up arrow, again, while you are in Winamp. This should centre the sound. If you are using neither, in the Winamp main window, press ctrl+tab to switch windows until you hear "winamp equalizer". If, after pressing ctrl+tab 5 times, you don't hear Equalizer, press alt+g to open the equalizer, then press ctrl+tab until you do hear equalizer. Now that you are in the equalizer, use your left and right arrows to centre the sound. As you press left, the sound will pan left, and right will pan the sound right. If you have opened the equalizer, it may be worth closing it with another press of alt+g. I hope that's of use. I'm hearing everything slightly to the right, and I've tried a handful of key combinations, but no soap. Any and all help gratefully received. Re: [all-audio] Converting An MOV File To MP3
Pazera Free Audio Extractor will successfully do it and there's a portable version on the page below: http://www.pazera-software.com/products/audio-extractor/ -Original Message- From: all-audio@groups.io [mailto:all-audio@groups.io] On Behalf Of Howard Traxler Sent: Monday, March 19, 2018 8:36 AM To: all-audio@groups.io Subject: Re: [all-audio] Converting An MOV File To MP3 Seems like you could go into the winamp settings and somewhere in there is a list of the filetypes it'll handle. Just be sure that .mov is listed there. I think I'd try loading it into goldwave then saving it as mp3. Not sure, but goldwave might handle .mov files. - Original Message - From: "Tom Kaufman" To: Sent: Monday, March 19, 2018 10:10 AM Subject: Re: [all-audio] Converting An MOV File To MP3 Oh...okay; that tells me a little more than I knew before! [all-audio] Sample Rate Jeopardy!Intro Test
Here is a Sample Rate Jeopardy!Intro Test that will hopefully allow the listener to very easily determine for themselves what sounds better to them, a 8Kilohertz sample rate file, as compared to a 12KHz file, 16KHz file, a 22, a 24, a 32KHz file. It only goes to the sample rate of 44.1KHz other than the source material file. so from 8KHz to 44.1KHz and then there are also 3 .WAV files. One this source material, and the other two are just showing the different sounds with different sample rates even in and with 0 compression .WAV files. One is 8bit and the other 16bit at 48KHz. The source file is 16bit stereo at 48KHz with the bit rate at 1536kbps and the levels fluctuating towards the end is kept in to assist in seeing what the sample rate can drastically change/effect. This is just me giving different sample rates with each of the 10 individual sample rate test files. This will hopefully clearly allow each of you to hear the significance of just changing the sample rate. Something that I am sure most of you are entirely unaware of which is understandable. Listen to each of the files and see when it truly comes clearer and what items might become diminished what levels are best for your individual ears. at least which levels you seem to find best because they are going to vary from person to person without a doubt. The sample rates vary, but the bit rate does not. Other than the .WAV files it's all at 32kbps (kilo bits per second) .MP3 format. If I had to choose which one would I prefer? The source material of course otherwise, number six. The 32KHz at 32kbps sounds the best to my individual ears again, second to the source file, but the fourth file up to the sixth file sound decent to me and obviously all of the .WAV files sound superior smiles and thanks for asking. And it is named Jeopardy! Intro simply because this is what the 20 second file actually is, just part to the beginning of Jeopardy. I was editing a episode when I thought that this would be a decent thing to put together that could literally allow people to see for themselves what sounds better or worse. So I went ahead and put it together. Hopefully it turns out to be a real ear opener and allow more of you to see what just changing the mere sample rate alone within a given file may truly accomplish. Beautiful Times to both you and yours and, Merry Christmas.
