But it is possible with the MSI (so there is C++ code needed for that!). The reason why we at least should make a locale dependent installation/selection of language packs is: 1. OO.org 2.0 start-up time is delayed by ~5 sec. per activated/installed writing aid! 2. Installing all delivered languages per default would also have an OO.o 2.0 with all CJK features enabled per default. 1. and 2. would lead to unnecessary long startup times plus a UI cluttered with features that only a small percentage of users will need (all others might be rather confused) - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. These icons look different in most languages and are therefore localised items. The itemes are not changed if the UI language is changed. For more details on this feature see spec in URL header. Note: I set this to P2 since (for exapmle) Korean icons for Bold, Italic etc. are basically unreadable for non-Koreans, therefore it is possible to have a unusable UI! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=40533 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Feb 22 21:22:16 -0800 2005 --- I've just tested in OOo 1.9.79 under Windows 2000, and the document does actually open properly. However in OOo 1.9.79 under Linux, OOo still crashes. I can open the document ( with my zoom set to 'optimal' or bigger ), and scroll down to the bottom of the table item 'PERSONNELL PRESENT'. If I try to scroll any further down ( ie to the 'ACTION BY NUS' part ), OOo crashes. I discovered something else interesting too. If I open OOo with the above document, with the zoom set to 'optimal', and then change the view to '100%', the page renders everything in the table down to the 'PERSONNELL PRESENT' row. It then renders the 'ACTION BY NUS' cell, but there is *nothing* else next to this or below it. Perhaps it is something about the bulleting in the table next to 'ACTION BY NUS' that is causing the crash. At any rate, it's only happening under Linux now. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. Please: 1. Add an option "Substitute device fonts" to avoid including fonts in the PDF file. This will make files smaller. 2. Add a third option for images, which retains the type of compression the original image had. Make this the default option. Images which are in a lossless format in the document would be saves as lossless in the PDF and lossey ones would be saved as JPEG. This would overcome the problem where a document contains both diagrams and photographs. Normally the diagrams would be stored in a lossless format and the images in JPEG. If converted to lossless the photographs will not be efficient, if converted to JPEG the diagrams will be blurry. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=39733 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Feb 22 16:26:41 -0800 2005 --- There's a "'shrink to fit' option ticked somewhere in the bowels of the Word menus"? This is news to me! Of course, and this goes for OOo too, the problem with options in the bowels of a software application are that the default is usually the only option because they are so hard to find, nobody knows they exist. It's much better to put these kinds of options into somewhere that's seen (in this case the print dialog). The users last pick should be used as the default the next time, but they should see the dialog each time. Should an option be included to 'not show this dialog again' then the user should be informed where to find the 'option in the bowels of the menus' so they can change it in the future (including not having it 'not shown' each time). In all seriousness, this 'options in the bowels issue' is actually related to this bug. Do you realize in home many places the user has to look to switch from one measurement type to another? This is rediculous. You need to look through about six or seven places just for Writer, and then 'rinse and repeat' for each other application included. Hardly userfriendly. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [framework-issues] [Issue 39733] Support default value for measurement units, paper size,date/number format settings
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=39733 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Feb 22 14:47:18 -0800 2005 --- Hmmm There seem to be two different MS experiences. My non-expert users have problems because they unwittingly have the 'shrink to fit' option ticked somewhere in the bowels of the Word menus (possibly a MS default). When they come over to OOo their prints don't come out through printers that try to accommodate the non-native paper size and ask for a non-existent paper tray. The problem Mintslice describes suggests there are other MS users with the option unticked. I agree that the MS way sucks, and ideally we should offer the four choices at print time if a match cannot be found between the document paper size and the available printer paper sizes. But users may still have a problem with printers that 'lie' (for whatever reason) about available paper sizes. So I would suggest a 'Warning on paper sizes' button in the dialogue box as well, so that non-expert users feel supported in their decision making, and understand the problem is not with their warm and friendly OOo software. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. I need to create dummy slides for each new masters slide i make in order for the stylist to work. To reproduce: - go to master mode, select the title box of the slide - modify the "Title" style - create new design and select it, select the title box of this new slide - edit the "Title" style again, you're editing the title of the previous slide. If you create a new slide and apply the new design-slide to it, then the last step works as expected. This is the same for all paragraph attributes (while *characters* attributes works (?!) on editing those "orphan" design slides, which is silly since they are master slides) Maybe i confuse everything. If so, just put "Impress on OOo2.0 is far more confusing than 1.1" as a bugreport ;) Thanks - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. This is very frustrating. You can very easily lose works, especially since there is a button in the TaskPanel which apply one design for all your slides. To reproduce: - make a few slides with a few differents designs applied - go to master mode, all the applied design stands here. Edit some of them if you want - leave master mode, apply all slides the same design - in master mode: every other master slides got deleted and your work thrown away (Unless you Undo quick). Correct behaviour should let your master design stay around until explicitely deleted in master mode. Hope this will get corrected. OpenOffice.org 1.1.x was so much simpler to use. If this is the intended behaviour (why ?) at least make a warning when the last slide which use the design get its design changed. I've been able to specify column width within the context of an XSpreadsheet object by obtaining an XCellRange object representing the column and setting the the "Width" property. I do this as follows: int top = 0; int left= 0; int right = 7; int bottom = 4; XCellRange xcr = xSheet.getCellRangeByPosition(left, top, right, bottom); XColumnRowRange xcrr = (XColumnRowRange) UnoRuntime.queryInterface (XColumnRowRange.class, xcr); XTableColumns xtc = xcrr.getColumns(); // get the first column Object col = xtc.getByIndex(0); // the class name of col is XCellRange ( for my edification only ) String cn = AnyConverter.getType(col).getZClass().getName(); XPropertySet xps = (XPropertySet) UnoRuntime.queryInterface (XPropertySet.class, col); xps.setPropertyValue( "Width", new Integer(2000)); When working within the context of a XTextTable object I apply the same strategy of obtaining a XCellRange representing a column, but "Width" is not a valid property for that range. Here is how I did it. XCellRange xcr = (XCellRange)UnoRuntime.queryInterface(XCellRange.class, xTable); //get the first column XCellRange col = xcr.getCellRangeByPosition(0,0,0,4); XPropertySet xps = (XPropertySet) UnoRuntime.queryInterface (XPropertySet.class, col); xps.setPropertyValue( "Width", new Integer(2000)); This throws an UnknownPropertyException. The problem reoccurred about 5 minutes ago. This time, I can definitely say that it has nothing to do with the transfer of files from one machine to another because that has not been done for the last week. There also was no fatal error of any kind that preceeded the corruption. I am running version 1.1.4. I simply opened a master document, and POW! All of the links to the subordinate documents had corrupt file names, in exactly the same pattern as was previously reported (one subdirectory out of the complete path name was missing). Then the Touchpad works. (While pressing the scrool keys or tocuhpad, the mouse cursor is shown at the scroolbar... but it works fine, after focusing...) Sorry, but it looks like you have not tested it properly! [graphics-issues] [Issue 43343] New - "Master Mode" is very confusing, error-prone and not coherent with the "Layouts" dialog
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=43343 Issue #:|43343 Summary:|"Master Mode" is very confusing, error-prone and not |coherent with the "Layouts" dialog Component:|Presentation Version:|680m79 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|Linux Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|ui Assigned to:|wg Reported by:|benji2 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tue Feb 22 10:19:15 -0800 2005 --- Hi, OOo2.0 includes a new master-mode manager on Impress, which is very confusing compared to 1.1.x. Let me tell why i think so. - The "master view" is hidden deep on the menus, while it was one click away on 1.1.x. A quick access should be on by default. Even by customizing the toolbar, it has no default icons, and it's still hard to left the master mode. - The "master" tab of the Task panel is very confusing because it doesn't always apply designs (while it _can_ apply layouts) to the local slide. One has to use the "Slide Design" context-button for that (altough for applying layout, one _has to_ use the panel, the context-button does nothing) - The "master tab" panel applies the master to _all_ slides, which is very dangerous (it can leads to lost of any current custom master), hard to undo (one has to click "Undo: Apply presentation attributes" as many times as the number of slides). This feature should provides a warning (same as the layout changing does). This is very confusing compared to the very simple way in OOo1.1.x (altough a little more powerful for the seldom case one wants several Master in the same documents). To make it more friendly to 1.1.x and new users, it should: - make "Apply to selected slide only" the default action when clicking on any master of the "Available for Use" tab of the Tasks panel - put a warning when the current master is edited (or copy it in the task panel so one can choose it again later) -Either remove the "select Design" popup which is redundant with the task panel, or add a "select Layout" popup which would be redundant with the task panel. At least, it would be coherent. Note that one Tasks Panel is closed, the "change layout" seems not to work, it should be workarounded - add an easy way to switch to master mode like in 1.1.x (either in toolbar, near scrollbar like 1.1.x, or within the "Normal/Outline/Notes..." tabs series) Of course, those are suggestion. I hope somethings can be done about it, because Impress 2.0 looks confusing and harder to learn that 1.1.x, the current way it is, while it should be even simpler ! Thanks ! - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
