Right now, if one opens more than one OO document, only the first one opens at
the place where one left off. The others all open at the top of the docuyment.

It would be great if all opened at the last place, especially when is working
with a few documents in tandem.

I just checked how WordPerfect does it. They offer two options, which together
do just that:

A) Place a bookmark (this particular one is called a quickmark) at cursor
position for each Save.
B) Open each document at quickmark.

This way, each document opens at its last Saved cursor position.

Why not to include that to 2.0 (target 2.0.1)?!?!

Does this patch fixes also issues like this:
h1 /h1p
ul/ulli

li is out of the ul block

or

li v bizaacute;Ĺ.iacute; 1998/b/i

it should be bi/ib/ - FIFO not LIFO.

At present, OOo considers quotes mark to be the end of a word during spellcheck.
This should be changed. Here is background (provided by Jonathan Ben-Avraham):
---
The Hebrew writing system uses one double quotation mark as the penultimate
character of a lexical item in order to indicate that the lexical item is either
an acronym or a Hebrew number, rather than a normal word. The double quote mark
is always preceded and followed by a Hebrew character, never a whitespace
character, punctuation mark or single quote. The reader uses domain and
contextual knowledge in order to distinguish between acronyms and numbers. When
the character set allows distinct opening and closing double quote glyphs, then
Hebrew uses the closing (slanting from upper right to lower left) double
quotation mark.

The Hebrew writing system uses one single quote mark after (visually to the left
of) a Hebrew consonant as an accent mark to indicate that the consonant should
be pronounced in an alternative way (usually to indicate a foreign pronunciation
for a letter that does not exist in Hebrew), or to indicate a contraction. The
single quote can be after any character of a word, including in word final
position (followed by whitespace or a punctuation mark. Words that use the
single quote as either an accent mark or contraction indicator are not listed in
common Hebrew dictionaries.

In addition, Hebrew also uses double and single quotation marks in pairs to
indicate quotations in the same way that Western languages do.

The above explanations unfortunately reflect the way the key mappings are set up
in Israel today for historical reasons but is not the way things should really
be in the ideal world. A real Unicode purist would use \u05F4 (HEBREW_GERSHAYIM)
instead of a \u0022 (They look the same), and \u05F3 (HEBREW_GERESH) instead of
\u0027. The break iterator code in OOo should be fixed to deal with *both* the
common and the correct usages.

Hebrew words can be hyphenated between any two characters. There are no syllable
based hyphenation rules as in English. There is no Hebrew hyphen (yes, \u05BE
HEBREW_MAQAF is not a hyphen).
-
This is only an issue during spellchecking. When moving from word to word using
Ctrl/Right or Ctrl/Left quoteש שרק *not* treated as the end of a word. This is
correct. However, during spellchecking, the behavior is not correct.

There is more on this subject at:

It's important that show hidden chars like parahgraph, tab and space are always
shown the same way. This works for Tab (an arrow) and non-full Tab (small
arrow)
but NOT for paragraph and space. I think Writer uses a custom graphic icon for
Tab which is perfect. It stays the same and the user cannot type this symbol
and
thereby confuse his own text from that symbol (when hidden chars is shown). The
same should of course be the case with paragraph and space - namely - they
should ALWAYS use the same unique custom icons - so that they cannot be
confused
with typed text - and they should stay the same ALWAYS - and not change size
depending on the font. The tab symbol nicely stays the same.

So here we have an inconsistency bug in the Writer interface.

Also you should make it possible to decrease the contrast on the shown hidde
symbols so that they could be sort of greyed out or the user could choose
another color for them.

Cheers
-- David

This would be a bad regression compared with 1.1.4 and make OOo 2.0 unusable for
many network users , so I recommend urgently to fix that for 2.0

In issue 44563 and issue 51760 you find further detailled hints that help to
find the reasons for that problem.

Please check out /usr/lib/menu/openofficeorg-mandriva-menus: there is an entry
for database. Also there should be a symlink in /usr/share/applications pointing
to a base.desktop file in the office installation.

Since Base become a seperate module recently, are you sure you have the
openofficeorg-base package installed ? the
/opt/openoffice.org1.9.xxx/share/xdg/base.desktop file is now included there ..

While looking for a solution to a problem in the help I recognized that under
Thesaurus;

See the Rückseite instead of Zurück ... ;)
If needed, I can provide a screenshot (but maybe not before next Sunday ... :(

I use OOo1.9.113 German language pack.
I use WinXP German with the default setting “,” as decimal-separator and “.” as
thousand-separator.
I set Local setting “German (Germany)” in OOo.

Take a new Textdokument.
Generate a paragraph-style with decimal tabulator and default seperator ,.
Insert a table.
Turn off number recognition.
Insert tab 1.234,5 in one cell.
Insert tab 1.234.567,89 in the cell beneath.
Apply your paragraph-style with decimal tabulator to that cells.

Watched behaviour: The numbers are aligned at the .
Expected behaviour: The numbers are aligned at the ,

Decimal tabulator in tables works fine in OOo1.1.4 and they are still correct if
you open such a file in OOo1.9.113. They remain correct when you save such a
file in odt-format.

I will attach a odt-file and a sxw-file.

hi cemer,

thanks for supporting OOo and reporting this issue.

The most easiest way was, if you attach your file to show the problem. Reading
your comments, I'm not really shure, what your print settings are and where the
conflict between expected result and the one you got is.

I have found under Thesaurus, verwandte Wörter this:
quote
1.Wählen Sie Extras - Thesaurus oder drücken Sie Strg +F7.
/quote
First it should be
quote
1.Wählen Sie Extras - Sprache - Thesaurus
/quote
and as a note: Strg+F7 (means: Ctrl+F7) switches the workspace under
Linux ... ;)

But I also found this on the same help page (it is the second last section on
the page):
quote
Der Thesaurus ist unter Umständen nicht für alle installierten Sprachen
verfügbar.Der Thesaurus
ist unter Umständen nicht für alle installierten Sprachen verfügbar.
/quote.
This sentence is two times the same, so one of them can get erased ... ;)

I have encountered screen refresh problem in the Text document on both OOo
1.1.4 and 1.9.113.

Symptoms:

After opening a document consisting a few pages of text, the lines of words
may become 'scrambled' and illegible as I scroll through the pages.
However, the proper screen display can be recovered by minimizing followed by
maximizing the window on the Text document.
The behavior of the problem can be rather erratic and is difficult to pin-
point the exact procedure to repeat the problem.

My platform is:
Presario 2100 (Athlon 1800) Laptop,
ATI Radeon Display card
Windows XP Home SP 2.

Note: So far, I have not encountered screen refresh problem on any other
applications.

First fix works fine, but Tino told me it was not accepted by udk team :

 quote
Hi Eric,

just talked to the Java guys here about your proposed patch for i47888.
The bad news: Your proposed patch is not the appropriate solution
according to our judgment. Sorry for the bad news.

But everything is not lost we just need to fix the problem in another
area of the code which is probably the project 'jvmfwk' there is
a method 'jfw_startVM'which actually starts the JVM.

Further it is possible to create plugins which can be integrated into the
JavaFramework (see: jvmfwk/plugins/...
The sunjavaplugin may serve as an example. For details see also:
http://udk.openoffice.org/common/man/spec/javavendorextension.sxw

We still need to figure out where is the optimal place to start the JVM
in a separate thread. Maybe 'jvmaccess' is the place to consider but I'm
not yet sure.

If I got a little time over the weekend I will further investigate the problem,
maybe you are faster than me.

Kind regards,
Tino

  end quote

Tests with

1.1.4 (German) WIN 98: [645m52 (Build 8824)] (PC1)
2.0 (1.9.m104) German version WIN 98: [680m104(Build8913)] (PC1)
2.0 (1.9.m113) German version WIN XP: [680m113(Build8930)] (PC2)

On both PC of this small network we have been using 1.1.4 without problems, open
and save of files on other PC via network without problem.
Both 2.0 installations are single PC installations.

I checked with I checked with 2.0 (1.9.m104) German version WIN 98:
[680m104(Build8913)] and can confirm the problem.

Steps to reproduce the problem (I use German version, names for Menu items
translated by me:
0. Open OOo on PC1, Menu: Tools - Options - General uncheck box
   use OOo menues
1. Create new writer document and save.
2. Menu: Insert - image - from file
3. select an image via network from PC2 by file browser like
   file://server/path/sub path/sub path/sub path/sub path/image.jpg
(That might be no correct UNC syntax, but also reproduces the problem)
   Check box link
   ENTER
   expected: Image visible
   actual: as expected.
4. close file
5. reopen file
expected: Image still visible in document
actual: only placeholder with link text visible.

Same proceeding with 1.1.4 works without problem
Same proceeding on PC2 (WIN XP: [680m113(Build8930)]) with image on PC1 works
without problem.

This bug would be a bad regression compared with 1.1.4 and make OOo 2.0 unusable
for many network users , so I recommend to fix that for 2.0 with high priority.

This first occured in 680m115 and it also occurs in 680m116 when running swriter
the first time after installation, I guess it's when the user installation takes
place. See the screen shot of the error box.
This also occured on 680m115 on Fedora Core 3.

There is a workaround that solves the problem.

I did several successful tests after I established a Net drive assembly ((?)
from german: Netzlaufwerk) on the WIN 98 PC, so we can reduce priority.

The workaround does not solve all problems. After establishing the Net drive
assembly I was able to work on PC1 (WIN98) without bigger problems and a test
due to Additional comments from rainerbielefeld Sun Jul 10 08:59:05 -0700
2005 was successful (image was still in document aftr save and reopen).

But: When I now open the Document from PC2 via network, the image is missing
again and only a placeholder with path is visible.

With 1.1.4 that problem does not exist, there I can reopen a document created on
PC1 (WIN98) with image from PC2 in it without problem from PC2 via network.

I checked the paths and they are all as you state. (base included)
After installing and following instructions the Applications - Office -
Wordprocessors - OpenOffice.org 1.9 Writer was there and also the other
applications but not base which I ended up installing in the menu manually.
It seems the mandriva menu install is missing the one item.

Hello!
I created a preinstaller for OpenOffice undex Windows. For this task I used
InnoSetup. I would like to change the default NSIS installer to InnoSetup
installer. I post the code, and a sample (empty) application. It is not so big,
but it generates error message because of unavailability of setup.exe.

Hi kjm2,

thanks for using and supporting OpenOffice.org...

OOo doesn't need these settings anymore since OOo uses the system default
settings (i.e. e-mail program)...

Please describe how you found this entry in the OOo help, thanks...

I followed the exact method that sbbedell described with a USB Flash drive and I
got the same result. After putting the flash drive back in, it wouldn't SAVE.
I then tried a Save-as and it then saw the flash drive again, but even though it
saw the flash drive, it still gave the general I/O error. It was not going to
save to the flash drive. I did not try renaming the file though.

I then did a save-as to a spot on my hard drive and it saved OK. Then I opened
up the file and it displayed correctly.

hope this helps.

I tried to paste the page http://computer.howstuffworks.com/mouse.htm/printable
into OpenOffice for a report by selecting from the Main Computer
Peripherals links to the How Gyroscopes Work link at the bottom then using
Ctrl + C then Ctrl + V to paste it into OpenOffice. I did the same thing into
Word 2003 and it worked fine, but OpenOffice stopped after three pages and
wasn't showing pictures. There was a big space of the first page also. When I
saved in Word and opened in OpenOffice it wasn't right either. The only app
that did it right was word. I will attach both files. Thanks. Love the Suite.

confirmed by Czech users. Raising prio. Saving documents doesn't work.

This maybe corresponds with removal of formwizard.po in m115 and its

The doc is 1.3 MB (as .sxw), and the figures given are the same even without the

harddisk. The problem is still the same in OOo1.9.109.

OK, I reopen this issue as enhancement. So it should be clear that, even
though the addressing works as programmers might expect it to work, the
behaviour is not intuitive to the user and should be improved.

I strongly support the solution proposed by lamberete that no sheet
reference is included if the referenced cell is inside the sema sheet.

The workaround with the $ is nice, but I daresay most people won't have the
intuition to find this out by themselves. ;-)

OpenOffice: 1.9.113
Windows XP SP2
I created a new Database, a new Table, adding two fields: fields1, fields2 (Text
Varchar - Default Values)
Save it as Table1
Should a primary key be created now? -- Yes
OpenOffice adds a new field ID
In my opinion this ID-field (=primary Key) should be an AutoValue Field - but it
is not.

many people request the opposite.

And: how often do you insert the pilcrow sign in your regular text?

Furthermore: this is not a defect (as it works as it was designed)

Changing this would be an effort with almost no gain at all. - worksforme.

If someone wants to implement such an option, feel free to reopen this one.

Yes, I found it where regina says it is. (It's also in the 2.0 User Guide
draft, page 26.) (Actually it's useful to the way I work to be able to use a
non-default e-mail program for this, and I found this Help entry when trying to
set that up, but I suppose I'll just not have to do so.)

You can only insert font-work by using the font-work gallery. There is no
launcher for the font-work gallery in the menu by default (only View|Toolbars -
Fontwork-Toolbar)

To add a launcher for the fontwork-gallery to the menu, pick the
Fontwork-Gallery item from the Draw section of the customize dialog.

 Folks,

we can argue about this over and over again, but people commenting on
this should at least read and _understand_ the discussion in the
predecessor issue 39898 and not blow up this issue with the same things
 again, like

  2. the locale or language of the data being imported.

With HTML there is no locale associated with the data.

Correct, but there may be a language.

In HTML/XML there is an entity that defines the language of the data,
  namely the lang variable.

Exactly, the _language_, but not the locale. Only for the cases where
a language is clearly assigned to just and only one locale using this
element would be possible. And most times the element isn't even
present. So nothing we could rely on.

This defines the value of the decimal and thousands separator,

 No, it doesn't.

  which are language defined.

No, they aren't. They are defined per _locale_.

Not in the real world. IRL as defined by orthogarphy standards, a
thousands

Eg for Danish it is defined in the Danish orthography specification
Retskrivningsordbogen that comma is used as the decimal separator.

Just because Danish is used almost only in Denmark and its regions.

Likewise for English it is always the period that is used.

By coincidence. For French, for example, it is a period in France
(fr_FR), but a comma in Switzerland (fr_CH). Same for Spanish, different
 separators in many different countries.

This is not my information. In Switzerland they use period as the
thusands separator. I recently was in Genève and could evrify that.
I also did create many locales, also for Latin Amarica, and that info
was consistent also.

Anyway, what I am asking for is just an option, users can choose not to
use it.

And you could actually specify in html more specific language codes, eg
swizz french fr-ch. This is a valid RFC 3066 code.

The default code to go from a language code to a locale, as you
described, would be adequate, and generate acceptable results in many
cases.

Ok, back to something productive: I offered my solution in the comment
of Wed Jun 29 05:39:15 -0700 2005. With that hack I will _not_ implement
a different default that would break already existing documents with
links to data that rely on the current behavior _unless_ User Experience
/ Program Management tell me to do so.

If we can't agree we will have to postpone this for OOo2.0.1 or later to
do a full-blown solution with UI and such.

I am just asking you to provide one more option, the option to use the
source language as defining the thousands and decimal delimiters.

I can understand if you would not make this the default choice, but IMHO
there are good theroretical and practical reasons for this to exist, and
even to be the desired default. If we just make it an option, then we
can try it out, and get some experience with it.

Best regards
keld

What about a satellite application (like OOMath) similar to Windows Journal
integrated in OpenOffice environment?

Something that allows users to take notes and use them in OpenOffice main
applications (handwriting recognition may be the further step)...

not reproducible here.
Please provide the font and/or test with a more recent build and report back.

Is it only the Times font that exhibits the problem?

(BTW: You'll never be presented U+080 since this is a control character)

Not reproducible either.
Depending on the speed of your machine, yes the dialog may take some time so
appear.
So wait for it before typing a search string.
Inputing something in a dialog which is not yet on the screen will not insert
the typed string in the dialog!
