The others all open at the top of the docuyment. It would be great if all opened at the last place, especially when is working with a few documents in tandem. I just checked how WordPerfect does it. They offer two options, which together do just that: A) Place a bookmark (this particular one is called a quickmark) at cursor position for each Save. B) Open each document at quickmark. This way, each document opens at its last Saved cursor position. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 51772] New - Quotes in Hebrew wor kbreaking during spellcheck
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=51772 Issue #:|51772 Summary:|Quotes in Hebrew workbreaking during spellcheck Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|NEW Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|code Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|ayaniger --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jul 10 02:49:32 -0700 2005 --- At present, OOo considers quotes mark to be the end of a word during spellcheck. This should be changed. Here is background (provided by Jonathan Ben-Avraham): --- The Hebrew writing system uses one double quotation mark as the penultimate character of a lexical item in order to indicate that the lexical item is either an acronym or a Hebrew number, rather than a normal word. The double quote mark is always preceded and followed by a Hebrew character, never a whitespace character, punctuation mark or single quote. The reader uses domain and contextual knowledge in order to distinguish between acronyms and numbers. When the character set allows distinct opening and closing double quote glyphs, then Hebrew uses the closing (slanting from upper right to lower left) double quotation mark. The Hebrew writing system uses one single quote mark after (visually to the left of) a Hebrew consonant as an accent mark to indicate that the consonant should be pronounced in an alternative way (usually to indicate a foreign pronunciation for a letter that does not exist in Hebrew), or to indicate a contraction. The single quote can be after any character of a word, including in word final position (followed by whitespace or a punctuation mark. Words that use the single quote as either an accent mark or contraction indicator are not listed in common Hebrew dictionaries. In addition, Hebrew also uses double and single quotation marks in pairs to indicate quotations in the same way that Western languages do. The above explanations unfortunately reflect the way the key mappings are set up in Israel today for historical reasons but is not the way things should really be in the ideal world. A real Unicode purist would use \u05F4 (HEBREW_GERSHAYIM) instead of a \u0022 (They look the same), and \u05F3 (HEBREW_GERESH) instead of \u0027. The break iterator code in OOo should be fixed to deal with *both* the common and the correct usages. Hebrew words can be hyphenated between any two characters. There are no syllable based hyphenation rules as in English. There is no Hebrew hyphen (yes, \u05BE HEBREW_MAQAF is not a hyphen). - This is only an issue during spellchecking. When moving from word to word using Ctrl/Right or Ctrl/Left quoteש שרק *not* treated as the end of a word. This is correct. However, during spellchecking, the behavior is not correct. There is more on this subject at: http://l10n.openoffice.org/servlets/BrowseList?list=devby=threadfrom=936644 and the patch submitted at: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=51661 - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 51773] New - Paragraph char chang es but not Tab char
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=51773 Issue #:|51773 Summary:|Paragraph char changes but not Tab char Component:|Word processor Version:|OOo 2.0 Beta Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|All Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|DEFECT Priority:|P3 Subcomponent:|formatting Assigned to:|mru Reported by:|filkin --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Jul 10 04:24:28 -0700 2005 --- It's important that show hidden chars like parahgraph, tab and space are always shown the same way. This works for Tab (an arrow) and non-full Tab (small arrow) but NOT for paragraph and space. I think Writer uses a custom graphic icon for Tab which is perfect. It stays the same and the user cannot type this symbol and thereby confuse his own text from that symbol (when hidden chars is shown). The same should of course be the case with paragraph and space - namely - they should ALWAYS use the same unique custom icons - so that they cannot be confused with typed text - and they should stay the same ALWAYS - and not change size depending on the font. The tab symbol nicely stays the same. So here we have an inconsistency bug in the Writer interface. Also you should make it possible to decrease the contrast on the shown hidde symbols so that they could be sort of greyed out or the user could choose another color for them. The bad news: Your proposed patch is not the appropriate solution according to our judgment. Sorry for the bad news. But everything is not lost we just need to fix the problem in another area of the code which is probably the project 'jvmfwk' there is a method 'jfw_startVM'which actually starts the JVM. Further it is possible to create plugins which can be integrated into the JavaFramework (see: jvmfwk/plugins/... The sunjavaplugin may serve as an example. For details see also: http://udk.openoffice.org/common/man/spec/javavendorextension.sxw We still need to figure out where is the optimal place to start the JVM in a separate thread. Maybe 'jvmaccess' is the place to consider but I'm not yet sure. If I got a little time over the weekend I will further investigate the problem, maybe you are faster than me. [www-issues] Re: [Issue 50670] HTML Import and Clipboard Paste behaviour

With HTML there is no locale associated with the data. Correct, but there may be a language. In HTML/XML there is an entity that defines the language of the data, namely the lang variable. Exactly, the _language_, but not the locale. Only for the cases where a language is clearly assigned to just and only one locale using this element would be possible. And most times the element isn't even present. So nothing we could rely on. This defines the value of the decimal and thousands separator, No, it doesn't. which are language defined. No, they aren't. They are defined per _locale_. Not in the real world. IRL as defined by orthogarphy standards, a thousands Eg for Danish it is defined in the Danish orthography specification Retskrivningsordbogen that comma is used as the decimal separator. Just because Danish is used almost only in Denmark and its regions. Likewise for English it is always the period that is used. By coincidence. For French, for example, it is a period in France (fr_FR), but a comma in Switzerland (fr_CH). Same for Spanish, different separators in many different countries. This is not my information. In Switzerland they use period as the thusands separator. I recently was in Genève and could evrify that. I also did create many locales, also for Latin Amarica, and that info was consistent also. Anyway, what I am asking for is just an option, users can choose not to use it. And you could actually specify in html more specific language codes, eg swizz french fr-ch. This is a valid RFC 3066 code. The default code to go from a language code to a locale, as you described, would be adequate, and generate acceptable results in many cases. Ok, back to something productive: I offered my solution in the comment of Wed Jun 29 05:39:15 -0700 2005. With that hack I will _not_ implement a different default that would break already existing documents with links to data that rely on the current behavior _unless_ User Experience / Program Management tell me to do so. If we can't agree we will have to postpone this for OOo2.0.1 or later to do a full-blown solution with UI and such. I am just asking you to provide one more option, the option to use the source language as defining the thousands and decimal delimiters. I can understand if you would not make this the default choice, but IMHO there are good theroretical and practical reasons for this to exist, and even to be the desired default. If we just make it an option, then we can try it out, and get some experience with it.
