Though the fonts may have the same name on different systems (such as "Times New
Roman") they contain different information about the character size. TNR on
Linux is not the same as TNR on Windows. And if such a font is not available at
all (could be on certain Linux systems) OO has to take another font to replace
it.
Unfortunarlely there is nothing OO could fix/enhance about this fact.

Created automated Testcase: f_basic_spectemplate.bas::tBasicSpecTemplate to be
run on every build. The test loads the file from the webpage (according to cj
the URL is static) and accepts executing macros.

Certainly yes.

I'm not a lawyer. Draw your own conclusions from the fact that it is a patch was
written/modified only by people with JCA. And the patch was attached here to
allow inclusion into OOo.

- if system administrator installs OOo into /Applications, user can't write
there -> system fonts extraction is wrongly designed - me as a user can't
write directly to the application bundle in /Applications!

And what's wrong, there is no error message in such case.

I am not sure if this is a bug or a feature :-) but it is really confusing when
you have to collaborate with several people using different operating systems.

OpenOffice writer seems to format one and the same document differently on
different operating systems. From my experience on Linux a document needs
slightly less pages in the end in comparision to Windows. The following attached
examples will illustrate this.

On my Ubuntu Linux Dapper system saving of a writer ODT file to a mounted cifs
filesystem fails in roughly 50% of cases. The following error pop-up is produced
by OpenOffice: "Sicherungskopie konnte nicht angelegt werden". Translated to
English this should be something like: "Backup/Security copy could not be
created"

In the next source file:
svtools/source/misc/ehdl.cxx(Revision: 1.4, line 428)
the code is:
aErrStr+=String::CreateFromAscii( ".\n" );

So if the "aErrStr" is zh-CN, the "." is not good.
And similar issue is issue 59269.

Steps:
1. Create a spreadsheet with the values for the first 30 fibonacci numbers in
one column
2. Create any 3D chart using that column as its data range
3. Save the spreadsheet as an MS Excel 97/2000/XP file.
4. Open this file in MS Excel. Notice that the graph is severely disfigured (the
graphics are barely visible)

 Priority:|P2

2006 ---
When running automated tests using the TestLauncher a lot of
soffice.bin/soffice.exe processes are left running and cause a memory shortage.

Reproduction:
Use testlauncher to do all framework tests, wait till the system freezes.

JSK->MN: To me it looks like some threads of the office simply do not shut down
and are left over. All threads have a memory footprint of about 500k.

Suggested solution(s):
a) Either kill all soffice.bin/soffice.exe processes hard from memory after each
testrun as short-term solution
b) Fix the problem that threads remain running (preferred, which is why i set
this as defect)

If you agree to b) please forward the issue to AS.

It is not only darker.

The font of the characters in this file dose not exist in my OS, so soffice
replaces this font with a font that exist in my OS.

Some characters' font is replaced with font A, and their neighbouring
characters' font is replaced with font B.

All of the characters have the same font. But they are repleased with two or
more fonts that exist in my OS.
And it is more difference when slideshowing.

This is the problem.

I was testing out possible filenames for a save file and I found out that
something happens when you try to save the file with an asterisk in the
filename. I had a spreadsheet with data in it then I tried to save the file
with the name * and then all the files in that folder appeared. Of course, it
did not allow a save. Again, I tried to save but this time with the filename
test* and then this time, the files disappeared.

In the "save as" menu, when saving a file in .xls without indicating or typing
in the desired filename in the 'file name' text box (empty) and then clicking
save, nothing happens. As a suggestion, it would probably be nicer that the
software includes feedbacks or dialog boxes telling the user that he/she is
saving a file without entering the desired file name.

When naming a file (.xls) of length greater than 221 in 'Save as', my saved file
does not exist. Although the "File name" text box can buffer characters up to
259.

example:
saving a file in .xls as "uvwxyz1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxy
z1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890abcdefgh
ijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1
234567890abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz1234567890abcd456789
101234567890543" can be acceptable. But, when saving a file exceeding the length
of 221, the file does not seem to exist after clicking save.

Maho's

-.IF $(ATKVERSION) >= "00010007"
+.IF "$(ATKVERSION)" >= "00010007"

fix should go into the master. I'll dig into dmake and fix the crash, but
IMHO that has time until CWS dmake45 is ready. (soon)

Please keep in mind that dmake doesn't see " as a quote, it's an ordinary
character (most of the time) for dmake, so the above test itself was flawed.

Even if $(ATKVERSION) was set (say to 0001) dmake would compare
0001 with "00010007". I didn't look into the code, but I'm not sure
the result was always as expected.

(Nevertheless dmake shouldn't crash)

What we want at this point with this issue is the activex-optional-disabling
patch in CWS tml04 to be perused and commented upon, and if there isn't anything
fundamentally borken with it, accepted into the upstream sources. Even if it
would turn out that fixing the embedding problem described in the initial
comment is trivial and that is done, I am not sure we actually want to have OOo
documents open up inside IE. It just is much simpler and less error-prone to
have them open in freestanding OOo application instances, isn't it?

As a workaround until this is fixed, we have opted to just disable ActiveX
embedding of OOo documents inside IE altogether in our builds. (This presumably
disable embeddding inside other apps, too, but that would be even less common,
wouldn't it?) It isn't as if the users would mind anyway, they typically only
are confused by having OOo running but inside IE. Patch in CWS tml04.

Eric I have found the proximate problem- OLE docs inherited from the original

content out except for these OLE graphics and it crashes as described. Attached

Hope this makes things easier. The crash dump said ~'no useful info or stack

After going through all the #ifdef MACOSX places, I removed all occurances that
seemed to be obsoleted by the move to the CUPS printerinfomanager
implementation:
parsing of /etc/cups ppds directly is not what I would expect when using

> Including fink goes like:

Actually I think gtk+ et al. are handled by fink's pkgconfig instance, which is
found in PATH. However, I would be fine with the minimal approach.

What do others think ? Is it acceptable to require a manual "export CFLAGS" on
Panther ?

[sw-issues] [Issue 58582] content of db is not fill ed in serial letters

Hi

When a serial letter ist printed by the menu file -> print, a question
opens 'do you want to print a serial letter'. If you click 'yes' the window
selecting the database field opens. When you print the letter, the database
content is not filled into the placeholders. This problem occurs only the first
time after opening the document.
I have to open 'datasources', then to open the corresponding table and then to
select the button 'serial letter' to print. It works. When I use the menu file -
> print and answer 'yes' to the question it works also over the menu print!

The error happens only in the German version. I've not seen it yet in the
English version.

Tom

Hi, this is actually a duplicate of issue 65219: if you disable the option, you
are free to enter and extension and if you want one you must do so manually.
All
extensions are accepted but the file type is determined by the file type drop

Hi, this is normal Windows behaviour: ? and * are reserved characters which are
not allowed in filenames. ? searches for one character and * searches for an
unspecified amount of characters. If you use these characters in a Windows
dialogue and press return you get the search result for these characters; eg.
asteri? will find asterix and asterik, while ast* will find asterix and
astonishment.

Hi, this is the same problem as issue 65219: the extension is just a name and
like all other names accepted by OOo as a filename; the file is now a pdf file
(short for it's now a file in Adobe PortableDocument format) with extension
doc.
Adobe Reader should open the file like all other pdf files. The fact that the
extension pdf is missing is actually a defect and handled in issue 65190. If
you
get a crash, can you reproduce it? If so can you file a new issue giving a step-
by-step description to reproduce it and perhaps attach the crashing file?
thanks, Lars

This is an important issue, also for many other languages. Should me maybe
just add people from Sun on Cc? Without that I guess this report will remain
unanswered for the next few years...

All applications that I know of are using É_dition, _Affichage, _Insertion for
the main menu, but on the latest OpenOffice.org under Linux it is translated
with _Éditer, _Afficher, _Insérer. That's quite bad as we are trying to give the
user an homogeneized experience througout the Linux Desktop.

Thanks

Hi, this is the same problem as issue 65219: the extension is just a name and
like all other names accepted by OOo as a filename; the file is now an ods file
(short for it's now an OpenDocument spreadsheet) with extension doc. Calc
should
open the file like all other ods files.

"shift-enter" is the point.

I use OOo 2.0.2 on WinXP. If I insert a shift-enter, then it becomes a ";" in
the SQL-string. If I reopen the file the string is cut at the first ;
It seems to get lost, when closing the file. If I extract the content.xml while
the file is open, the SQL-string is complete. If I extract it, after closing the
file, the SQL-string is cut in the content.xml.

the extension is just a name and (nearly) all names are valid to begin with
thus
a character sequence making up a name of an extension is an acceptable name too
so if you enter doc as extension it will be just a name for the file; it won't
be a doc file unless you choose the filetype to be doc (from the filetype
selection drop down menu). And that's why Adobe could open the file and Word
could not: it was still a PDF file (as that's the filetype which gets chosen
when you export to pdf). Maybe OOo can choose (/ask you) to change the filetype
when you enter an extension of a matching different filetype. Otherwise this is
a duplicate to issue 65190.

Can reproduce with 2.0.2-de on WinXP-Pro.
Either clicking on Save or hitting return results only in change of directory.

But: MS-Office does the same!
So I think of this as a Windows-Feature. Suggesting WONTFIX as solution.

If the user saves a file with a filename that contains 210 or more characters,
OOo Calc will prompt a message that it is invalid. However, if only 209
characters is used, it will prompt a General Error and still create a file but
the file is empty.

To replicate this bug, save your spreadsheet using a filename that has a length
of 209. After that, go to the directory were you saved the file and check the
generated file.

I just noticed something. My computer crashed and rebooted as I was writing a
file with Writer. When I went to OO, it asked if I wanted to recover the file I
was working on. I said "yes" and it recovered the file, and THIS TIME the cursor
was at the bottom, where I had been up to. Why can't I get the files to open up
with the cursor where I left it when I just ask to open a file? It's really
frustrating. I'm wondering if my new information will help.

I would probably feel less frustrated if this was something that had never
worked. Th fact is that it had worked and something "broke" it, and now I can't
see how to fix it.

hi! :)

i have encoutered this issue, and found out that:
SAVE function will not be done / executed, but instead a search query of the
filename + asterisk as a wildcard character, regardless of the filename
extension and displayed result.
  * - wildcard chracter, any chracter, regardless of length

e.g. test* --> Press ENTER / Click SAVE

no saving will be done, but will list all files with test + any characters..

strange, but * and ? are the only character from the invalid filename characters
(which are \ / : * ? " < > |), that is not trapped as invalid filenames but
instead a search query is executed.

anyways, hope this helps.. :)

hi! :)

i have encoutered this issue, and found out that:
SAVE function will not be done / executed, but instead a search query of the
filename + asterisk as a wildcard character, regardless of the filename
extension and displayed result.
  * - wildcard chracter, any chracter, regardless of length

e.g. test* --> Press ENTER / Click SAVE

no saving will be done, but will list all files with test + any characters..

strange, but * and ? are the only character from the invalid filename characters
(which are \ / : * ? " < > |), that is not trapped as invalid filenames but
instead a search query is executed.

anyways, hope this helps.. :)

we'll call it "WONTFIX" as it's where things collide
