[sw-issues] [Issue 65341] New - Writing style sugges tions just like spelling checking

I do not think any competing program has it, so this would be a feature to stand out. We have a spelling checker (red lines) for words that are plainly wrong. We might get a grammar checker (green lines) one day for some basic grammatical issues. I suggest a writing style checker (maybe blue lines?) for issues of writing style. These issues are different from spelling mistakes, as they are a matter of choice. Technically, I reckon the code for the spelling checker could be recycled to a large extent. Examples: highlight all foreign words, highlight informal language, highlight But at the beginning of a sentence (when capitalized), words often confused, ... What would be needed are additional dictionary-like lists with these words. For each word there would need to be (a) the word to highlight as a potential issue, (b) the suggested alternative, (c) a tag or classification so the user can decide whether he or she wants all the X-type of words flagged. The context menu could show the alternative and the tag in brackets: [But] - However, (good writing). - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. (not built m169 yet, sorry) fr : works Crystal is proposed in the list, and works fine : changes for Crystal/reverse are ok, and repeatable. it (m168): Crystal is not proposed in the list. I think it works, but not for all locales for m168. I'll build m169, but maybe only tomorrow or monday. Other point : in localisation08 cws, Crystal does appear 3 times in svx/source/dialog/optdlg.src,but I 'm not sure how verify your changes. Doing a diff between revisions 1.20 and 1.23 of optdlg.src files gives me a long list of changes, with Crystal added. Is this correct ? [sc-issues] [Issue 65344] New - Calc Autocomplete di fferent in 2.0 from 1.0
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=65344 Issue #:|65344 Summary:|Calc Autocomplete different in 2.0 from 1.0 Component:|Spreadsheet Version:|1.0.0 Platform:|All URL:| OS/Version:|Windows 2000 Status:|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard:| Keywords:| Resolution:| Issue type:|ENHANCEMENT Priority:|P4 Subcomponent:|editing Assigned to:|spreadsheet Reported by:|bugspot --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sat May 13 10:02:32 -0700 2006 --- The autocomplete feature in OO 2.0 is different from OO 1.0 in that the user can type a letter, the first matching phrase begining with that letter is displayed (sorted by ASCII order), the user can type yet another letter to drill down in the list and a second phrase may be displayed. Hitting the tab key allows further drill down into that linked link(presumed) and a touch of the ENTER or ARROW key leaves the cell. THe difference from 2.0 and 1.0 is that 1.0 will correct the cell to the originally found phrase, correcting the capitalization scheme, and 2.0 will not - thus leaving a different capitalization scheme. This behavior is counter productive to data entry and clean data. The whole point of the feature is to save time and keep data uniform, the way it is now creates more work, if you wan to beat Microsoft you need to pay attention to such details. As you can see my typing is poor and I rely on features such as these to keep things uniform. System Configuration { Windows 2000 Professional V 5.00.2195 Service Pack 4 Dell Dimension 350 (Don't laugh, I have no money) Open Office v1.0 } Preconditions { 1. Open a Calc sheet 2. Set a phrase in a cell column. Type: ABCDabcd in cell A1 } Steps to Reproduce Behavior { In Calc 2.0: In Cell A2 type A The result will display ABCDabcd While still in the cell continue typing with a lower case b The result will display AbCDabcd Hit ARROW RIGHT and the cell will be left and the resultant display will be AbCDabcd. Doing the same set of steps in OO 1.0 will yield ABCDabcd in Cell A2 } - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. (1) press a key combination (e.g. control+shift+F if this is free) (2) type the search phrase: OpenOffice jumps to the first place that matches (3) I press control + G (or something similar) to jump to the next match (control+shift+G to previous) (4) once I click into the text, I'm back at editing. This feature would thus be similar to the find-as-you-type in Mozilla, or also the functionality offered by Canon Cat... The current implementation of search differs in the following ways: (a) need to use the mouse for the search dialogue, (b) no search as you type: possibly enter much more than needed to get a match. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. It is good design, actually. If only we knew why the behaviour... I have seen a dx printer only once; they're not popular here in Norway anyway. Maybe a little Insert a blank page if needed by duplex printers or something like that, checked by default maybe. I got very confused anyway. Is there a way to disable this at present? The only way I find is to do this at Print time: Go Print, choose Options then uncheck Right pages from the Pages section, to print only left- [presumably odd-number-] pages. If someone can get this on the wishlist for UI improvements it would be great, though. Maybe a line in the help file, too? It doesn't say too much about why the blank pages. It's a _bit_ annoying having to remove every second sheet from a big stack of letters; worse even if someone printed directly to envelope via the print-fold-and-put-in-envelope-machine... :) 500 unusable letters for every 500 good ones :P - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
