The task is to make a text document in Writer using block diagrams. I want to
draw a circle or a rectangle and so on and insert an equation into it. So I type
an equation using Math object, then I select it, then I copy it into the
clipboard. I draw a regtangle/circle, double-click on it and trying to paste an
equation - no result.
This feature could be useful when drawing, for example, block diagrams of
control syslems, algorithms and so on.

reproducible on linux with both 2.0.2 and m170

OOo 1.1.5 can save in doc format, but when opening the doc in wordviewer 97
running under wine, I get the error message:
The dimensions after resizing are too small or too large.

I guess this refers to the image, since that is not visilble in the exported doc
anymore.
The image is lost as well when opening the doc-file in OOo again (it is saved,
but collapsed so you have to resize it to see it again).

crash regression (OOo 1.x did not crash) → Prio P2

I have also tried to full build the code with the gcc-3.3 and gcc-3.4 compilers
with the same result.

I have also done some research and noticed the problem can be reproduced (after
the fatal error has occured) quickly and reproducable by executing the generated
.cmd script in ./vcl/unxlngi6.pro/misc/libvclplug_gen680li.cmd.

I have just installed OpenOffice 2.0 on Mac OS 10.4.6 (Tiger). According to
installation documentation on openoffice.org website, OpenOffice always launches
X11 automatically after it has been successfully launched a first time. I have
successfully launched OpenOffice many times now and it works fine, but only if I
launch X11 first manually.
I cannot simply double-click the OpenOffice 2.0 file in the Applications folder.
Nor can I simply double-click an Openoffice file. When I do this, the menu bar
shows the OpenOffice.org, File, and Edit menu items, the harddisk is
active (judging by the sound). After about 10 seconds a dialog appears with the
message command timed out - cancel - OK (see attachment).

The only way I can successfully open an OpenOffice document or launch OpenOffice
is by first launching X11, then staring OpenOffice 2.0 script in the
applications folder (or launching soffice over the X11 terminal).

I'm surprised that this issue is not posted here yet. It may imply that there is
some other problem with my system setup which is causing this problem, yet I
don't know what could be the problem. Since OpenOffice seems to run perfectly
once it's open, I'm assuming my setup is fine.

I'm not sure if that will be enough as doing an offline installation has the
problem in that OOo just doesn't
recognise the dictionaries.

I think there may need to be something done that will mean that the fix won't
be available until the next
release of OOo. From my understanding that would mean OOo 2.0.4, as 2.0.3 in in
the final iterations.

Today I used the Mail Merge Assistant the first time and was shocked about how
many UI glitches it has. First I thought it may be because I use the German
version under Linux but after also looking at the English and the Windows
version I saw that it is broken in every version. I attach some marked up
screenshots.

Subcomponet NG, it something else.

Have Calc and writer open at same time. Copy cell contents from Calc to Paste
into Writer. Correct info copied to Writer. Munges (Screws up) contents of
the cell in Calc. Select Calc cell (different one) shows same value as munged
cell that was copied from originally.

all big Word processing applications work this way

No, LaTeX works like expected. It took me a while to switch from OOo but the
outline numbering in LaTeX makes sense even with a lot of conditional text.
What advantage has the industry standard you are talking about?

Here come the steps to reproduce the bug:
Create a new Database and used Tables - Create Table in Design View...
Insert two fields, remove the first field, click the Undo button and notice
that it looks like the second field is there two times. Only if you click
somewhere else in the table the cells are updated correctly.

I just want to say that I had exactly the same problem like kami_ and it took
me really long to figure out what was wrong (reading the help files, Internet
search, wanting to submit an OOo issue, finding this report).
It was really frustrating and I think you really should redesign OOo in this
respect:
- remember selected options
- add an option to re-enable warnings

Ran similar test on 2nd machine, seemed to work as expected. i.e., nothing
screwy.
  1st machine: AMDK5-2 cpu, 384Mb memory.
2nd machine: Celeron cpu, 728Mb memory.

Did a total reboot of 1st machine (normally I hibernate it).
retried the test, worked as expected, but on selecting Calc and exiting,
discard changes It also prompted for discard changes of the Write program.
i.e., one exit migrated to the the 2nd application.

This is what screwed me the 1st time around. I had exit'ed the Calc program
and didn't read the fine print (which was evidently for the Write file I was
working on) and selected discard.

I'm writing proceedure for a Calc application and the copy/paste between the 2
applications is the easiest way of doing it.

If you have a document that contains address database fields and you use the
menu item File - Print... a question dialog opens that asks if you want to
print a form letter. If you say Yes a Mail Merge dialog opens.
This dialog is very small and shows a lot of information (data sources, ...).

This dialog should really be resizeable. Fixed size dialogs are almost always
bad GUI design.

If you have a large address database and use the mail merge feature to
generate form letter files (output to disk) the GUI freezes during the
generation process. It looks like OOo crashed...
It would be better design to do this heavy stuff in another thread than the
display thread.

This dialog contains an information icon but in the description is a checkbox

This is inconsistent. Either this is an information dialog or a warning. It

If you use the Find tab in the Writer Online Help and click on entries in
the result list the text at the right hand side automatically scrolls to the
first search term hit. But sometimes this does not work. Example:
Resize the Online-Help window to a relatively small size. Search the
term AutoCorrect. Doubleclick the search result Drawing lines in text.
Notice how the text at the right hand side scrolls to the first occurrence of
your search term. Now click on the first search result Spellcheck. Notice
that the text at the right hand side stays at the top position and you have to
manually scroll to the search hits.

When you import an Excel document containing a Drop Down menu (List Box in
OOo) whose source is a named range, it comes in without a source in OpenOffice.

The problem seems to be that OpenOffice doesn't allow a name to be the Source
cell range of a form control, which is why it can't import them.
Unfortunately, I can't figure out where that would go in this bug system.
Sorry.

obstacle with OO so far. We are currently using one of a number of hacks that
have been created to overcome this shortcoming. Imbedding an image, a separate
numbered frame, etc... All of the current hacks are difficult and this limits
the number of attorneys willing to switch over.

While I edit a file, I can copy images from Firefox and paste them into a
OpenOffice document (Writer in this case).

It can be done with a lot of images. But the problem it is impossible to see
the document if the user do not have internet access, only appears broken
images.

Evenmore, OOo get unresponsiveness when it try to open a file with a lot of
remote images.

Applying 'strace' I noticed that:
- For each image it was asking to a NS for the hostname to get the image.
(All of them where coming from *one* site, all of the with the same base
   URL).
- It was estableshing connections with the webserver, downloading the image
  and such.

In MS Word, if you copy paste an image, the image is *copied* into the file
by default.

I noticed this bug after my wife told me that her OOo looked broken because she
couldn't open some files. I tried one of them, and I turned of my network
connection and the file was opened pretty quickly.

After that I applied 'strace' to the pid of soffice, and I saw a lot of entries
with connect and recv calls. I filtered the connect I got the followings lines
*a lot* of times repeated:

connect(36, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(53),
sin_addr=inet_addr(146.83.183.94)}, 28) = 0
connect(36, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(80),
sin_addr=inet_addr(128.196.198.125)}, 16) = 0

Evenmore, If I only click the image I get:

connect(36, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(53),
sin_addr=inet_addr(146.83.183.94)}, 28) = 0
connect(36, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(53),
sin_addr=inet_addr(146.83.183.94)}, 28) = 0
connect(36, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(53),
sin_addr=inet_addr(146.83.183.94)}, 28) = 0
connect(36, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(53),
sin_addr=inet_addr(146.83.183.94)}, 28) = 0
connect(36, {sa_family=AF_INET, sin_port=htons(80),
sin_addr=inet_addr(128.196.198.125)}, 16) = 0

4 queries to DNS? It seems it doesn't manage an internal cache.

The same happend if, in the image property window, I click in the Picture tab.

I guess the problem resides in the way that VFS module is used.

A print range was specified to print pages in a certain order, and OOo sorted
the list and printed out the pages in the lowest to highest page number order.
For example, I specified 8,6,4,2 and it printed the pages in the order 2,4,6,8.

I have put this in as a defect rather than as an enhancement because it
results in unexpected behaviour.
