I cannot reproduce the problem using OOO builds (on SUSE 10.1) downloaded from
OOo site. This problem should be reported to ubuntu. Currently there a several
problems reported by users working with the ubuntu ooo-builds.

There's a PARTIAL WORKAROUND for this bug that helps in some cases (tested with
ZH-TW).

In Win XP, change the 'language for non-unicode programs' to match the character
set of the filename you want to open. Restart.

This setting can be found in Control Panel -> Regional & Language Settings ->
Advanced tab -> choose the appropriate language from the first list box

BTW, that dialog box also lets you choose which code page conversion tables to
load. I don't know what affect those options have on this issue.

WARNING: changing the 'language for non-unicode programs' could cause other
applications to stop working properly (most likely old apps, not mainstream
stuff). If that happens, you can simply change it back to the original setting.

I agree with sgfan that this bug is a show stopper for some, and is probably
under-reported. It's really harmful for new users' impressions of OO in certain
environments. OO appears to trash the very first file they try to save (actually
they just can't re-open it by double-clicking on the icon). For inexperienced
users, the bug makes it look like OO simply doesn't work.

*This bug was first reported almost one and half years ago (as issue 52240).
It's been reported separately at least six times - see the apparent duplicate,
Issue 64764, which has another 6 votes to add to the 14 this issue has now

Hi Frank,
I think you can not replace en-GB with en-US,because they are
different in some strings.I will submit the updated file with
corresponding en-US string as soon as possible.

another possibility to fix this bug is upgrading db, though, since newer
db4.x'es apparently have a fixed documentation...

I don't know how to add function definitions to the ODS file. If OOo is crashing
your computer, then that sounds like something you should report as a bug!! The
copy/paste method seems like the easiest to me. The functions definitions should
start with "Function SlideDisp(slides, volume, profile)" and end with
"PM_CONFIRM_REAGENT_VOLUME = 0" follwed on the next line by "end function". I'll
upload the contents of the function definitions to the issue as a text file.

I am also a faculty member who uses Linux and OO.o and hates the current Notes
implementation. It is the only thing in MS Word that I truly miss. I have a
lot of 30+ page papers to grade each semester, and not wanting to strain my back
or kill trees, I do it electronically. The MS Word bubble in the margin is
ideal. The OO.o system with the little box in the text just doesn't cut it.
One of my colleagues has told me that it is the one thing keeping him from
dumping MS Word and using OO.o.

This is entered in the SOffice bug database as:

https://so-web.germany.sun.com/iBIS/servlet/edit.TaskFormServlet?tid=137415

We're finding that database difficult to access and use, so we're 'moving' the
bug here since it also applies to OOo. If I recall correctly (I can't get to
the bug report), the main problem is that Ctrl+Shift+{Left,Right} are meant for
selecting words, but they can also end up selecting just whitespace.

cannot tell what they are choosing.

This was entered in the SOffice bug database:
https://so-web.germany.sun.com/iBIS/servlet/edit.TaskFormServlet?tid=137437

We find that database very cumbersome to work with and note also that the same
problem exists with OOo. So...we're 'moving' the bug here. The main problem is
that the any_data.value() field does not contain the text that was deleted when
a text deleted event is issued. This is a severe usability problem.

seems, the files have been taken from TEX (eg.
http://www.tug.org/svn/texlive/trunk/Master/texmf-dist/fonts/afm/adobe/)/ CTAN (
http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/fonts/adobe/afm/)

at least the CTAN package includes a mustread.html that allows distribution.

But we need to know the source of the files and attach licensing info. If this
is not available - remove the files.

The document the attachment test4.odp was created from, originaly had pictures
that were inserted as a link. At that time one equation was only copied to the
other after saving and loading the file again. When creating the test4.odp
example all figures were removed. From that moment on, the 2 equation seemed to
be directly linked together.

New record is not normally added. Error message: "No data available." If you
click OK in the opened errormessage to save anyway, record is added and the
errormessage is returning.
Closing the entire window adds the record, even if you say you don't want to
save the changes.
If you click several times on "NO", several records are made with the data you
entered.

Tested in 2.1.0rc1: issue is still present.

Why is 'Target' 2.2 when there appears to be a fix made and tested?
Maybe other changes in the same CWS are holding it back.
Which CWS should we be looking for?

Just curious.

I've attached a patch that seems to work, though I'm not sure if this is the
best place in the code to fix it. When fme reviews the bidi code in the edit
engine, he may want to fix it somewhere else.

Trying to print an envelope using writer. Printer simply feeds paper (8 1/2 x 11
or #10 envelope) through with no print. I can print any other sort of document
in writer, etc.

Using Kubuntu 6.06, hp 890c printer, Dell 5150 laptop, usb port replicator
(kensignton), printer attached to port replicator via parallel cable.

Hi,
I can confirm this behaviour.
It seems to me that this is an importing from xl problem with datavalidating.
There is a workaround:

Goto: Data > Validity > Criteria > Allow > Choose "whole numbers" and enter 24
for the maximum number...

On Ubuntu Edgy with OOo 2.0.4-0ubuntu2 from Oct 16 (taken from the
About dialog), with latest Orca running, oowriter goes into error
recovery mode, if I do a find operation in Orca.

The Orca version I'm using is from GNOME CVS HEAD (this new Find functionality
is not in a released Orca tarball yet). A new Orca tarball for GNOME
2.17.3 containing this functionality will be available in about four days
time. At that time you will be able to find Orca v2.17.3 under
ftp://ftp.gnome.org/pub/gnome/sources/orca/2.17

I've marked this as a P2 because it renders OOo oowriter unusable to
blind users, who will try to use the new find functionality in Orca.

Steps to reproduce:

* For now, build Orca from GNOME CVS HEAD (or use the new Orca 2.17.3
  tarball next week)

  % export CVSROOT=":ext:[EMAIL PROTECTED]/cvs/gnome"
  % export CVS_RSH=ssh
  % cvs co orca

  % cd orca
  % ./autogen.sh --prefix=/usr
  % make
  % sudo make install

* Run the Orca you just built.
  % /usr/bin/orca

If this it your first time running Orca, then run:

  % /usr/bin/orca --text-setup

and answer the various questions it asks you.

* Run oowriter

* Open a saved copy of the test document found at:
  http://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=77312

* Press the ./Del key on the numeric keypad.
This will bring up the Orca Find dialog.

* Enter "golf" in the "Search for:" text field and press the Return key.

oowriter will go into Error recovery mode.

We can handle crazy name changes in Orca (we had to do so, for example, with
Firefox because they kept on changing their name from release to release), so I
wouldn't consider this a show stopper. But...I would highly encourage keeping
the name consistent and meaningful.

I agree totally with the various commenters about the importance of this issue.
It is probably the most significant reason for my apologising to MS Word users
when I send them an OOo document.

PS Could someone please change the summary or other header fields to include the
word "redline" so that people looking for problems relating to redlines have a
better chance of finding it?

Let me add a couple of points why I think this is an important issue:

 * the document is perfectly valid according to the OpenDocument specs; other
applications (e.g. Google Docs) render it correctly
 * it's not that the document is displayed with slightly incorrect formatting;
part of the content - all the rows that don't fit in the page - is not visible
at all, so the whole document becomes completely useless

WMF export does not respect the setting "Invisible" for the line of a shape.

To reproduce
- create a draw document
- create two rectangles, one overlapping the other
- set line style to invisible for both rectangles
- export to wmf

-> you'll see the lines around the rectangles in wmf file

In writer, trying to link an calc file.

Steps :

1/ Create a calc document with 2 sheets, fill some datas
2/ Create a new writer document
3/ Insert / OLE / From file -> select your file and check Linked
4/ In the new box created, double click to open the OLE Calc, chose one of the
sheet
5/ repeat 3 & 4, but select the other sheet
6/ save file

At opening, you will ALWAYS see same sheet in the 2 boxes, and this is the last
sheet you selected when editing your writer document.

I have written an template including an assignment of a macro contained in the
template to the 'create Document' event.
When I start this template to create a new document it is suppose to run the
macro on creation, but it can not find the macro. I did search for it, but in
the list for assign a macro to an event the macro from the template does show up
(the other 'libraries' are listed but not the macro in the template file
itself).
I did developed this macro with OOo 2.0.3 where it worked on Windows and Linux.
I am going to append the template (if I find out how - sorry I use the
bug-report the first time)

I have successfully compiled previous milestones with the (oo internal) stlport4
and have succeeded doing in configuring m195 and starting a build correctly with
that setting.

However, when using the --without-stlport4 flag to configure, it declares
warnings on expat and zlib, and finally errors in python, claiming that it
cannot find the headers. Enabling or disabling Jam does not change the
situation.

I'm using these configure flags:
--with-system-expat --with-system-libxml --with-system-freetype
--with-system-python --with-system-curl --with-system-stdlibs --with-system-zlib
--enable-cups --disable-mozilla --enable-jam --without-stlport4

Also:
export nodep=TRUE
export NO_HIDS=TRUE

Hi Ingo,

As commented in CWS icuupgrade and discussed, the necessary link with major
number to a newer version of a versioned library (=> different name) isn't
created by a patch set installation. Please add this issue to CWS icuupgrade.

Thanks

latest patch seems to have some issues.
easy one: run dmake with no makefile around. gives lot of internal errors about
missing childs here.

sometimes, of cause unreproduceable, something that sounds like a cygwin
exceptionhandler gives a message about stack corruption:

When an Excel doc is opened, then formatted to not print zeros, it prints fine.
However, when you save it then as an Excel, then reopen it, you have to turn off
the zeros again. This Page>Format is not saving in the document.

Thank you,

Jerry

Hi,

problem with RC1 of OO 2.1:

there is a problem with a date code in macro programming

example for the SQL-Code:

Select * FROM `table_x` WHERE `date1` ={D '2006-11-29'} AND `date2` = {D '2006-
11-29'} AND

This SQL command is working in my MySQL database (as well in the native SQL
Code and also as an OO query). If I use an "executeQuery" command in a macro
code, the date code is converted. Now there are slashes "/" (... `date1` =#2006/
11/29# ) in the command, as a result there occures a runtime error in basic
(syntax error in query).

Also changing the language settings doesn´t change this

Thank you for your help

best regards
sarotti

We have updated the en_GB dictionary correcting a number of errors in the
currently shipping version. These include the removal of a number of non-words
that were still present in it, correction of a few misspellings and addition of
a number of new words.

Updates to both the .dic and .aff files have been done. The updated files will
be attached to this issue.

Please can the new dictionary be made available for download as soon as possible
and incorporated into the code line for inclusion with the next release.

Thanks
David Bartlett

The problem occurs when you open the files - it doesn't matter if they are
opened remotely. Simply opening from the UI is enough to cause the issue. There
is no warning about the crash - all open documents are closed as Open Office
shuts down.

SBA->tommyads: Your reported based on OOo 2.0.
Rainer said that in OOo 2.02 he could not reproduce it.
I can't see such problems in OOo 2.1 RC on win2000 either.

Note that such display problems (not only on Windows) may depend on
 - graphic card +driver (version)
 - view settings (i.e. smooth scroll, show-content-on move etc.)
 - display hardware acceleration level

Thus, toying around with these may well bring up valuable information if a
repaint problem is not easily reproducible.

I set tis one to "Worksforme". Please re-verify your findings in a younger
version (OOo 2.1 RC is out) and comment here. Feel free to "reopen" the issue if
you can reproduce that behavior and give further information.
Thank you.

question. Which I answered and waited for a comment from you to that answer...

I'll do the change now (although it doesn't fix all the occurances)

Of course I know that the fix is easy...

I would like to be a able to use a parameter in an IN clause. (ex. SELECT fields
FROM table WHERE field IN (:param) ) The Query designer complains and if you
enter it as straight SQL it won't let you run or save the query.

Rene, since you provided the first patch, why should it be different for the
second? As HRO is unavailable currently and probably will be for some time, I
suggest that you take over this bug.

You actually do not need to change anything in SAL, except that you need to turn
on the necessary defines.

And by the way, I feel somehow offended, so if you do not change your attitude,
I stop commenting and you can ask somebody else to approve your CWS ...

OOo _exact_ version/build: openoffice.org 2.0.4-0ubuntu2, Mon Oct 16 01:14:49
UTC 2006 (as appears in Help > About).
Running in Kubuntu Linux 6.10/edgy Eft, with Pentium M 1.6GHz and 1GiB RAM.

-

Page with header and footer. Formatted with justified text and 1.5 spacing
(using the DejaVu Serif font, 10.5 size) on the main body (outside the
footer/header). Colour is blue with occasional light red symbols.
Inside the text body i have inserted a lot of formula-frames (stuff added thru
Insert > Object > Formula, which also uses DejaVu). Inserted formulas vary in
complexity, most being "X = Y.Z+W", but with some very long fractionary
equations and a couple of matrixes.

When i DRAG-SELECT just text, nothing unusual happens. However, if that text has
any of said formulas in (even if it is only one formula, like "vec v"), when i
select the text (either with the mouse or using the shift+arrowkeys), OOo
crashes without warning or messages, as if i had killed the process (no saving
request).

When launching OOo again, i get the Crash Recovery dialog, as expected. If i do
the selecting again, it crashes.

Rebooting solves nothing.

Then you should have said that. You asked a question and I answered on which
basis I would accept that. Which you in turn didn't answer to.

In case this fixes *every* occurance of file access (what I now assume you
wanted to say) it's OK with me to do this.
(but a quick grep for fopen() at least gives one hit in autodoc; I ctrl-c't
after some time)

Rene, I somehow expected that you would provide a fix and would apply it to the
LFS CWS.

Since the patch for issue 70388 has been integrated into OOo 2.1 as well, is
this issue considered important enough to be a stopper for 2.1 ?
