Another month has passed without anything happening. The request seems to be
completely ignored.

I have decided to switch to KOffice as they seem to have a more responsive
developer community. I will therefore no longer be available to provide input
regarding this issue.

Up to now, the points are automatically sorted by X values, if you check "Smooth
Lines". But you do not tell the user, that you do that. A solution can be, to
mark the checkbox "Sort by X-values" automatically and disable it, if the user
checks "Smooth Lines".

You have subordered the B-spline variant under "smooth". I think, that is not
correct. If you draw a B-spline, your data points are not points on the curve,
but they are used as control points to form the B-spline curve. So a B-spline
curve is more like a Bézier curve. It is complete different from smoothing a
line with interpolation like in the case of cubic splines, which goes through
the data points.

People who know nothing about B-splines will be confused, what will become out
of there polyline. Those who know, what a B-spline curve is, will be confused to
find them as variant of a polyline.

The resolution of the cubic spline divides the interval between neighbour points
and you get different length, if the distance between the points are different.
For B-splines the whole range from first to last point is divided in equal
distances.

Therefore B-Spline curves are so much different from cubic splines that they
should get an icon beside the polyline variants and get a handling for them
alone.

According to Polish official spelling rules, the official date format should be
d.MM.. This format should be made default, with ISO variant only as an
option.

Additionally, the date formats with commas (such as "31 grudzień, 1999" and
"piątek 31 grudzień, 1999") should be written as "31 grudnia 1999" and "piątek,
31 grudnia 1999". Note that the month name should be in the genitive form. The
format "31. grudzień 1999" is completely wrong.

If you use the variant B-Spline in an XY chart, then the points are sorted.
Therefor you cannot draw curves, which turn back. But I think, that it is not
necessary to sort the points. Please have a look at
http://www.apm.tuwien.ac.at/docs/lva/mmgdv/k1___014.htm (German). There you find
a description, how to calculate B-Spline curves without sorting the control
points. Based on that text I try to describe, how I think it might work. I
cannot write C++ and do not know about all the stuff in the source, so I will
use pseudo code.

I refer to graphics/chart2/source/view/charttypes/Splines.cxx

/*I use the names as in the function CalculateBSplines. I comment them, so that
you can control, whether I understand them correct:
nDegree is the order of the B-splines in mathematical sense. It is 1 higher than
the value from the input field “Data points order”.
*/
nDegree = nDegree + 1;

/*The control points are in rInput. They come from the data points which the
user specifies. I write it so as if they are indexed from 0 to n in the order
they are written in the data series. It should be sure, that each control point
is a point and no x-value and no y-value is missing.
*/
// calculate n
n = rInput.SequenceX[0].getLength()-1;//maximum index of control points

/* nNewSectorCount gives the number of lines, which will build the polyline
which interpolates the B-spline curve. nGranularity is the value from the input
field “Resolution”.
*/
nNewSectorCount = nGranularity * n;

// t is the node vector
const double* t = createTVector(n, nDegree);

/* b will contain function values of the blending functions for a specific
argument x. b will have indexes from 0 to n+nDegree. Most of the values in b are
zero. You need only values from index i0-nDegree+1 to i0, where i0 is that index
for with x is in the interval [t[i0];t[i0+1][.
*/
double *b   = new double [n + nDegree + 1];

/* The arguments x must be in [0; n-nDegree+2]. The number of arguments must be
nNewSectorCount+1. I will use ib to count the arguments.
For each argument x you get a point. Later on you will draw connection lines
between this points. Therefor you need a vector or an array (or how you call it)
with index ib from 0 to nNewSectorCount to store the points. I will name it
BSplinePoint here.
*/

xStep= (n - nDegree + 2.0) / nNewSectorCount;
x= 0.0; //later on it will be increased by xStep

for (ib = 0; ib <= nNewSectorCount; ib ++)
{
   // Calculate the values of the blending functions for this special x value
   BVector(x, n, nDegree, b, t);
   /* Calculate the B-spline point with index ib. It is a sum. For the
boundaries of the sum you need the value i0 like that in function BVector.
   */
   i0 = floor(x) + nDegree – 1;
   /* Can you multiply a point as a whole with a number? I write it here for
each coordinate.*/
   // initialize sum with zero
   BSplinePoint[ib].xcoordinate = 0.0
   BSplinePoint[ib].ycoordinate = 0.0
   //summarize
   for (i = i0-nDegree+1; i <= i0; i ++)
{
BSplinePoint[ib].xcoordinate =  BSplinePoint[ib].xcoordinate+
rInput[i].xcoordinate *b[i]
BSplinePoint[ib].ycoordinate =  BSplinePoint[ib].ycoordinate+
rInput[i].ycoordinate *b[i]
}
   //next value for x
   x = x+xStep
   //next value for ib is automatically generated by the loop
}

/*Now you have got a vector of points, which are points of the B-spline curve.
With this points you can draw a polyline, like you would do, if an user chooses
the not smoothed variant line in the XY chart.
*/

In addition:
If the text, which I mentioned, is right, then I think you can improve this:

In function BVector goto the loops

for( sal_Int32 j=2; j<=k; j++ )
for( i=0; i<=i0; i++ )
b[i] = TLeft(x, i, j, t) * b[i] + TRight(x, i, j, t) *
b [i + 1];
}

I think, that in the inner loop you need not to start with i=0, but you can
start with i=i0-j+1, because the other values of b[] are zero.

Confirming with OO 2.0.4 on Win XP - additions to "standard.dic" are not saved
untill Quickstarter is closed. Gracefully exiting QS saves dictionaries.
Whatever was the intention, such behavior seems to be bad.
Changing priority to P2 as it affects everybody and causes data loss.
Changing summary (from "Some words are not being saved in User dictionaries").

Using OOo2.0.4, WinXP PC.
I was playing around to see if some of the functionality of MS OneNote could be
duplicated using textboxes in OOoDraw - quickly jotting notes/ ideas down, then
re-arranging the textboxes in a more logical order. My idea was then to transfer
the text into Writer.

RFE: Currently to copy text from a textbox (e.g. from Draw) to paste into
Writer, it is necessary to double click and select the text first. To save time,
it would be nice if I could just select the textbox (single click) and then
copy, allowing me to 'Paste Special'>'Unformatted text' in Writer.

Furthermore, it would be useful when selecting multiple text boxes to allow the
User to copy&paste all of the selected text from boxes into a Text document. I
know this might be a tricky function (e.g. to me it would be logical to order
text based on y-position: top-to-bottom, but maybe this is not the general user
expectation...).

Regards,
Andrew

Please explain how this can be done today (i.e. with the infrastructure
available to OpenOffice.org) ?
Is there any documentation available about this ?

Please remember that the use case of interest to Openoffice.org is for people
who have no idea what mailing lists are or how to use them correctly. We hope
that those answering the email will be informed that it is a moderated user (
so that they can make a choice whether to CC: the original poster).

Additionally it would be VERY useful if when an email is accepted for
moderation the original emailer would receive a reply giving some information
about the mailing list ( e.g. FAQs, getting replies, giving sufficient
information, other sources of help, etc).

These 2 features would greatly enhance the usefulness of the moderation
feature.

I guess I'm kind of stupid. The font kept automatically changing to Tahoma. I
suppose my only suggestion then is that the default font when a language is
changed in CTL is for it NOT to be Tahome, but rather something else. Like Times
New Roman.

Pretty simple,

I am using MAC OS X 10.3.9, and despite enabling CTL from the language setting,
when I change my language in the international setting to hebrew, the characters
I type come out as blocks. Not quite sure why or how to fix this, I even
selected mywestern language as -none and still blocks.

This issue is three years old. It was not updated by the assignee, neither
considered or given any visible attention. Since the OO devs are known for
marking almost everything as enhancement (how convenient), I have given up on
the usefulness of reporting anything to this project.

Since I report bugs to all kinds of opensource projects I may say that this is
the worst bug handling I encountered so far, except for Gimp/Gnome. Yeah, you
are going to tell me that if I do not like OO and the way the devs work, I
should simply leave it alone, since nobody forces me to use it. Very
convincing!

Tested with OOo 2.0.4, WinXP PC. Problem still persists: Cannot assign different
styles to individual sections of text within a textbox; styles are always
applied to the whole textbox.
Changed summary for clarity (was: "Stylist does not work in textbox").
Set target to 2.X (sorry if it offends- but should be kept on the radar).
Cheers,
Andrew

Confirming with OO 2.0.4 on Win XP - on attached "print-count.gif" circled in
green is competitor's behavior, where copy count in Print dialog is reflected
in driver's dialog. Circled in red is how Writer behaves - number of copies is
not relected in driver settings.
I am not sure what problems such behavior can cause, because Writer prints
requested number of copies anyway, so closing as "Invalid".

sciteach,
if you know how this can cause problem please reopen.

Working with OOo2.0.4 WinXP, I also came across this problem.
However, this issue is essentially a duplicate of Issue 19340, which covers
being able to apply styles to individual sections of text rather than just the
whole textbox. Marking dupe and closing. Cheers, Andrew.

do OOo release sanity test 109188: "Open MS Word file in OpenOffice.org and save
as OOo native"

1. open a MS-office doc file (in example attached lorem ipsum.doc)
2. save it as odt - leave default name as is (lorem ipsum.doc *)
3. the result is an overwritten original (lorem ipsum.doc) in odt format

The resulting lorem ipsum.doc file can not be read by Word - it asks for a
converter - but is recognized (!) by writer.

see also issue 72209 - must be a general problem with the file I/O widget.

*:  - renamed to lorem ipsum 2.doc, because there's two lorem ipsum.doc files -
the original and the one after save

If different page styles are used having different setting for the header, these
settings are not correctly exported to word.

in the attached example, there should be no no header from page 2 on. Although a
separate section is generated, this uses the same header as the previous
section.

1. take any kind of document (I checked it for writer, calc and impress)
2. select "Export to PDF"
3. confirm the overwrite (!)

The resulting file keeps the extension of the original document, but is from the
contents/grammar point of view a PDF file. Check it by changing their extension
by hand to PDF.

The result is of course also that the user overwrites (!) his own original
document - except of course heŽsattentive enough to stop before doing 3.

The result are odt,odp ...files that can not be read by OpenOffice - because
they are PDF files.

If a frame (or picture) is moved or scaled within a writer document using the
mouse, this operation is not correctly named in the undo-list (drop down list of
the undo-button).

The list item should read: "move: " or "scale: "
Instead it reads: "Change Style: "

A really lot of people are screaming for "normal view" feature for some time
here: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=4914

I would propose some helpful enhancment which could be less difficult to
implement than proper "normal view".

This is possibility to collapse top and bottom margins of pages in Print view
and display only page area which contains some content. In MS Word this could
be done by simple one click in between the two pages. It's very helpful as in
most cases user don't need to see any page margins really and its a quiet
bothering, that margins occupies so much of valuable space on screen.

Not a Calc problem if at all a problem, it's in the Chart component. I've
changed the component and will re-assign.

But IMHO this is correct behaviour.

When editing a Master Document, using the Explorer Master Document view, and
entering File, Index, or new document components into the master document, the
new component is entered before the selected component. This is a problem
because users naturally want to enter components in a first-to-last order. For
example, the user will naturally want the Text to be at the head of the
document, but when a component (say file1.odt) is entered then the file1.odt
component precedes the Text component. Similarly, file2.odt is inserted before
Text or file1.odt, depending upon which is selected before the insertion. Then,
the user must manually drag the components into the desired first-to-last order.
This is tedious for master documents with a large number components. So, I
suggest that (1) a new components are entered after the selected component, (2)
to allow rapid entry of new components, the last entered component is
automatically selected in preparation for the entry of the next new component.

Jack, I was passing the writerperfect code through valgrind and yes, it has some
problems that could be the reason of this crash. Nevertheless, this issue is
independent from the CWS fs07 and should in no way delay its integration (the
situation before and after the integration is the same wrt. the current issue).
I will set up a CWS for the writerperfect refactoring after fs07 is integrated.

In OO.o draw, 'Heading' and 'Title' styles are transalted into the same Korean
word, '제목'. The same issue applies to the text and graphic object style in
Impress.

To fix this, one of the style names needs to be changed into another Korean
word. In case of Writer, 'Title' was translated into '주제'. To be consistent
with Writer, I made following suggestions.

제목(Title) -> 주제
제목(Title1) -> 주제1
제목(Title2) -> 주제2
.

How to reproduce,
1. Open Draw.
2. Push F11 key to open Styles and Formatting dialog.
3. Confirm that there are duplicated style name '제목'.
4. Confirm that one of those entries can not be selected.

5. Open Impress and create blank slide.
6. Place a text box on the slide and select it.
7. Push F11 key to open Style and Formatting dialog.
8. Confirm that there are duplicated style name '제목'.
9. Confirm that one of those entries can not be selected.

10. Place a graphic object on the slide and select it.
11. Push F11 key to open Style and Formatting dialog.
12. Confirm that there are duplicated style name '제목'.
13. Confirm that one of those entries can not be selected.

I test it with OOE680_m1 and can't confirm the problems which are described in
the attached screenshots.

All pictures look fine.

So it's work for me

Can someone else test it with the last version

Here is a potential patch. I basically just add the .jnilib pattern to the set
of accepted libraries. Does not seem to change existing behaviour. The question
is, do we need all the .jnilibs or not?

.ppt file with lots of clipart and transition effects crashes Impress
during the import phase. I have only observed this in the Welsh-English
version called Agored when usaing Welsh as the interface language. The
language of the presentation is Welsh.
