Hi,

I can basically only confirm the issue in the way it is reported. I do not know,
if it's a problem of OOo or the macro.

@Skotti: AFAIR, you care about such issues in QA.

Best regards from Beijing

Sorry, I thought I was clear. You have to be editing the cell for the mouse
wheel not to work. That is, you have to have doubled-clicked in the cell or be
in the formula bar. Also, the cell has to contain a formula, that is it must
start with "=", like the person in the mailing list said in 2003.

I could only reproduce it for files that were read/written in different UI
locales (English/German)

The fact that the link end loses it's character style is not a bug. The bug is
that this style can be selected in the dialog.

I have created a Calc file containing a list of simple words collated
correctly, a random-order list, and
Calc's version of correct collation order. It seems mostly to have the right
idea, but it has problems with
the dot-under tone used in combination with accented vowels. I have attached
this file.

Hi,

I can confirm the loss of formatting, using refresh from the context menu. I
guess this is no defect, but a missing feature and most probably known.

@fst: I assume this is an easy 'close as duplicate' for you.

This would be better than nothing for now. Please don't implement this INSTEAD
of a real solution to Issue 7998, but implementing this patch ASAP would
certainly help. I would recommend that in the final implementation of Issue
7998, the method discussed here should still exist whenever the user elects to
place a regression curve without displaying the function and r^2 value on the
chart. In other words, give the users who want the info on the chart their
option, but those that just want the info without cluttering the chart could
still use this technique.

Thanks for working on this.

There are no focus rectangles, but as I see e.g. in Mail's preferences, TAB is
cycling through checkboxes as
well and they change when in focus! Focus ring is drawn around the checkbox.

As far as I can tell, there is no way to *see* where bookmarks have been placed
in a document. I'm using bookmarks in order to make section cross-references, eg
"See Section 2.3.1" in my document.

The problem is that when a rearrangement headings, or rename them, or press
enter after a heading number but before the heading text, I can't tell where the
bookmark is now located. I checked the 'view' menu and there isn't any option
for viewing bookmarks. Perhaps there is something somewhere but I didn't spot
it.

I think that it is necessary to have some sort of visible marker for bookmarks,
so that on ecan be sure they are where they need to be. The marker should also
shown the bookmark name.

PS the auto-fields are incorrect in this bug report. Actually I'm on Ubuntu
7.04.

fixed with attached patch. Negative impact: one does not see if the focus is on
e.g. a radiobutton, but that at least looks the same as the aqua system. We
should change the tab-sequence to include only edit fields and comboboxes in
another task.

On Aqua there are no focus rectangles on controls to mark which control has the
focus. Actually only text entry fields seem to be in the tab-sequence, but
that's another story. To look more system conformant we should disable drawing
of focus rectangles.

I have the same problem as a number of other dudes have reported (search for
"numbered list print" and you'll find them), but none of the other dudes
provided a test case. I will upload a very simple one page document that
illustrates the problem and also shows what the print looks like on my system.

The bug is definitely related to the printing itself as both writing to PDF and
Print Preview work flawlessly.

I can live without a solution for this problem because a workaround is to first
export to a PDF file and then print that PDF file. The result is fine then.

It has been a while since I submitted this report. In the meantime I have
switched to a much faster computer (Athlon 4800+ 64 X2) and don't seem to have
the problem here. I think the idea of adding an option to limit processing to a
particular area is not that good; someday there could be hundreds of odd options
added to compensate for this or that odd behavior on this or that odd machine.
As far as I am concerned, this issue can be closed again.

[sw-issues] [Issue 78205] Paragraphs with a bookmark have directly applied attributes when saved a s .Doc

--- Additional comments from Thu Jun 14 23:37:08 +

It would appear to be a first paragraph issue.

Open file 78205.odt.
Save the file as .Doc (Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP)
Close the file.
Open file 78205.doc. At this stage everything is OK.
Make a change (e.g. delete the last question mark and type it again) so that the
file can be saved.
Save the file (by default it will update the .Doc file).
Close the file.
Reopen 78205.doc
The first paragraph has directly applied character attributes. The other two
paragraphs with bookmarks don't.

Even though it is not as serious as I first thought this is still an issue. A
template that I am developing for interoperability requires the following:
-
Module 2 An Example
...

Learning activity 2.1
-
The only way that I can find to get the "2" from the first paragraph to be
automatically included in the "Learning Activity" paragraphs, when the document
is round-tripping with Word is to bookmark the "2" in the first paragraph, and
have a cross reference to it. While this works the problem is that because the
first paragraph gets directly applied font/character attributes the resulting
cross references, in Word, are all the size of the first paragraph.

I plan on submitting a number of issues to do with cross referencing and
interoperability, this seemed to be the easiest of them.

I have created a new bug report, issue #78358, that focuses on the failure to
handle the 'open documents'
message from Finder (and other OS X applications including Firefox).

My patch fixes the issue that the Aqua port does not become the default
application for ODF documents
after it is installed. On my system, this was a big issue because I previously
had Abiword and the X11 port
of OOo installed. My opinion is that the most recently installed application
should become the default
document handler.

This bug is connected to (or may even be caused by the same flaw as) the bug
#77039 (Date-Time fields dont work). The generated report contains the correct
'get-variable' commands in the header, so this is a matter of formatting the
thing correctly.

The details of this enhancement are:

Change the Table Selection page of the combo box and list box wizard to allow
selection of Tables, Queries and SQL from current data source

Additionally allow SQL command selection for the display data source. This
should include the ability to open a query designer window with a table or query
preselected. On this second point, this is different from how this feature is
implemented in the different editors where an SQL command is accepted. In these
the query designer is opened with the select table/query dialog opened. IMO, an
implementation here that did the same is acceptable, the request for the table
or query to be preselected from the function within the wizard is an additional
change.

The motivation for the change request is the number of new users that have asked
on the Forum regarding displaying data from multiple columns in the combo or
list box control. Since for new users, new computer users particularly, the
wizard for this data source selection will be the first interface to these
controls, the current implementation makes it appear that this single field
display is the only option available. It is less of a problem for experienced
users of other computer applications, but even then combined with the different
approach to displaying multiple column data from the major competitors
application even these more experienced users can be mislead into believing that
it is not possible with OO.o controls.

I understand that new controls are in the planning stages that would address
multiple field displays, but this change is valid regardless of the control
displaying only one calculated field, or in the future multiple fields. So any
effort here, before the new controls are development should in no ways be
waisted, IMO.

See attached mockup.png for UI suggestion.

I agree, the requirements are clear. As of v2.2, text pasted into Calc from an
unknown source will invoke the Text Import dialog box which provides this
functionality. All that needs to be added is a menu option to do the same to the
selected cell range in a spreadsheet. This may also allow for the
Text-Import-on-paste dialog to be less "sensitive", e.g. only come-up when
pasting multi-line delimited data and not more limited normal text (See
complaints on issue 15509)

As of v2.2, text pasted into Calc from an unknown source will invoke the Text
Import dialog box, you shouldn't need to do "paste special."

There is also a macro available to do this to a range of data (as Excel does)

My W32-bash build fails with the error shown below. Maybe a parallel build

That wasn't my point. I wonder if the gain is worth the effort. That would be
the case if the creation of many threads instead of one would cause a real
problem under some circumstances. Currently I only see that we would fix some
ugly code that currently just works. So why change it - just because it is ugly?

That's the difference between "OOLater" and any other target. :-)

>I'd very much like to be able to display the full pathname of the file I'm
working on in the window title.

The complete path can be displayed in an existing menu bar. Is there any need
to clutter up the UI with yet another item that users can _currently_ display,
if they so choose to?

fs->ama: you're my hero - I know you've been busy with other important things,
thanks for fixing this.

The fix looks fine, except a *small* thing: The time field does not seem to work
- it always displays 00.

I am not sure whether this is a bug of the engine or of the Writer. Looking at
the generated report doc, there are the following attributes:
office:date-value="2007-06-14T10:35:59.0Z"
office:time-value="PT00H00M00S"
office:value-type="time"

There's various issues with this:
- the time-value is surely wrong
- the date-value value looks good, but: It was 22:35:59 when I generated the
report,
that is, the time part misses the fact that it was PM, not AM
- either the time part of date-value, or the time-value is redundant. I am not
sure
what the ODF spec says about both attributes being present, but I think
we should write only one - shouldn't we?

When I remove the flawed time-value attribute, then 103559 is displayed in the
respective fields, which is still wrong - the formatting in the report design
specifies it should be 10:35:59.

- open a new report design
- select any section
- insert 3 controls for the current date (menu: "Insert / Date and Time ..."),
each time using a different formatting, as offered in the dialog
- select one of the controls in the property browser
=> as formatting, "1234.57" is shown, for all three controls
- save and close the report design
- open the report design
- examine the "Formatting" property of the 3 controls
=> now the proper formatting is shown

The SBASIC function ReplaceString in Tools/String module can be writen as:
Function ReplaceString(s$, new$, old$) as String
ReplaceString=join(split(s$,old$),new$)
end function
which is far faster and shorter.

Also the ArrayOutOfString Function can be substituted by function Split follwed
by a ubound call to determine the size of the array.

OK in m215, although the (inactive) field in the dialog still shows 0 after
checking the [x] logarithmic style (but shows 1 after closing and reopening)
Since the dialog doesn't auto-update the chart/doesn't have a live preview, this
is OK

closing.

Effectively, it means you're unable to place a date or time field in the page
header. One might think this makes those fields somewhat useless ...

- open the attached database document
- open the report "lost page heading field" for editing
- note the two formatted fields, one in the page header, one in the detail
section. Both have exactly the same settings
- execute the report
=> in the detail section, the field is properly field (with the current date)
The field in the page header, though, is empty in the generated report

(note: The field contains a date field, which does not work unless you have a
build where issue 77039 is fixed. However, you can enter *any* report formula in
the field: In the detail section, it will be properly shown, in the page
header/footer, it won't.)

under given circumstances OOo will not keep the uniform charwidth of
non-proportional fonts.

The problem is shown in the attached document and can be reproduced with those
steps:

- create a new writer doc
- set default style to
 - non-proportional font (e.g. Bitstream Vera Sans mono)
 - spacing Condenced 0.5pt (or more)
- type some lines of text
- apply italic, bold or underlined formatting to some words
-> those words will get a slighlig larger width

[framework-issues] [Issue 76855] Add option to ignore docum ent stored printer setting

2007-06-14 Thread cornouws
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=76855

--- Additional comments from Thu Jun 14 20:02:48 +
2007 ---
In a business environment, for some documents it is usefull to have printer
settings loaded, because they have to be printed on special printers. And the
settings can only be loaded, when they have been saved before.
For documents where printer settings are not needed, in general it makes no
sence to have them stored.
-> Mba: I can think of other scenario's, but those are far less frequent.

Most situations are helped, when there is the choise not to load settings.
In a deployment with different printers, loading printer settings that are saved
with the document, can often be a burden. (In my experience, word processing in
business has most troubles in getting existing documents (templates) print
correct on each users printer. I guess this is the reason behind issue 75342,
that has also been mentioned at the Dutch users-list.) If one can ignore the
settings, it isn't a problem that they have been stored.
-> Mba: so combining to a "don't load and store printer settings" option,
doesn't have any advantage, IMO.

The problem is that as of today, OpenOffice.org (Sun's) still ship with these
dialogs by default instead of using the fpicker by default. So we can't really
consider this code deprecated.

The 2nd spreadsheet contains the calculations using a stable algorithm. You can
test this algorithm for RSQ() and see how it behaves comparatively to the
default implementation of RSQ().

Basically, the algorithm goes like this:
1.) N*sum(Xi^2) - (sum(Xi))^2 is replaced by:
N * sum(Xi - Xm)^2, where Xm = the MEAN of X
the N will cancel later, so I did NOT multiply with N

2.) N*sum(Xi*Yi) - (sum(Xi))*(sum(Yi)) is equivalent to:
N*sum[(Xi-Xm)*(Yi-Ym)]

3.) dividing the previous 2 quantities and canceling N gives:
b = sum[(Xi-Xm)*(Yi-Ym)]/sum(Xi-Xm)^2

4.) Ycalc-i = a + b * Xi
adding every Ycalc gives:
sum(Yc-i) = sum(a) + b*sum(Xi)
however sum(Yc-i) = sum(Yi) = N*Ym, therefore
N*Ym = N*a + N*b*Xm => canceling N
Ym = a + b * Xm =>
a = Ym - b * Xm
[I actually could mathematically show that *this is indeed TRUE*.]

5.) and final step, calculating R^2
first calculate:
Yfirst = Yi - Ym
Ysecond = Yi - Ycalc, then
Yfirst - Ysecond, and
Yfirst + Ysecond
and finally:
R^2 = (Yf - Ys)*(Yf + Ys)/((Yi - Ym)^2

As you can see, this algorithm works even for the very difficult test case I
provided.
