As discussed with the germanophone community we want to change the string
Führungslinie back to Fanglinie. See discussion
http://de.openoffice.org/servlets/BrowseList?list=devby=threadfrom=1814361

Main reasons for this are:
- Fanglinie describes more precisely what the function does
- fits better to the corresponding string Fangpunkt, which should not be
changed

I will attach a sdf-file where all occurences of Führungslinie are changed to
Fanglinie.

OpenOffice crash while searching on the Impress user guide.

Step to reproduce:
1. Start OpenOffice Impress
2. Go to the user guide (F1 or ? - Guide)
3. Select the OpenOffice.org Impress section (it should be selected by
default)
4. Go to the search tab.
5. Search a term
When you click on the search button (or press enter) for start the search,
OpenOffice will crash/freeze.

I've tested it on multiple installation of Ubuntu 7.04. All are affected by
this bug.

I vote for this change too, as it makes no sense to have the focus on the
printer selection droplist.

Changing the printer will unlikely be done by keyboard but by mouse. And for
selecting the printer by mouse the initial focus on this control is not
important.
Its much more user friendly for heavy keyboard user to simply type in the amount
of copies and simply press enter to start printing instead to press Crtl + C
first

In Impress the user can add a new image for the background first adding it to
the background library and only after he can use it. The procedure is not
immediate for the first-time users, them have to read the user guide for learn
how to do it.

We know that users doens't like read manuals. For common task (such select a
different background for the slide), the UI should guide directly the user and
help he for find the right way without losing time.

Mine is only a suggestion: I know a lot of people that still use commercial
software due to this type of troublesome.

For this specific issue, a fist solution should be add the possibility to add
include an image to the library even from the format - setting dialog:
when a user choose the bitmap filling, a simple ADD BITMAP TO THE LIBRARY
should be useful.

Thanks for reading.

Good work!

Confirmed with 2.2.1 on Win XP. Does not depend on the mouse wheel, it occurs on
normal scrolling also. Anything beyond the page boundary (for the OLE object in
the attachment it's the ruler) does not scroll.

There is an easy workround - temporarily move the object before editing it -
however agree it should be fixed. Will set Issue Type to New shortly...

I've just installed English version.
As soon as I open Tools - Options... - Language Settings - Writing Aids, even
if I don't change anything, AutoSpellcheck switches to on on the next opening
(Writer or Calc). Exactly like in French version.
So I do think there is a bug here.

Cp.
  http://dba.openoffice.org/test/DataSource.html#Settings
vs.
  http://dba.openoffice.org/test/DataSource_new.html#Settings

In my sometimes not so humble opinion, the second version is more readable than
the first one, with less distraction for the reader's attention, and less geeky
techno-babble which makes the document look go away for the innocent casual
reader.

The first version is the normal result of a autodoc run, in the form as it would
appear in the online IDL reference (it's from a CWS of mine, so the exact
content isn't online, yet, but this doesn't matter here).

The second document is a copy of the first, with a number of changes I did,
which IMO result in a better accessibility of the document. In particular, what
I did, and suggest to do by default in autodoc, is:
- omit all occurances of ::com::sun::star:: in all fully-qualified
  identifiers
Reasoning: Those namespaces do not carry *any* information for the reader.
All identifiers are inside this namespace, so there is no gain in
mentioning this again and again and again and again. Instead, the
constant repeating of those technical terms is scaring for the less
experienced reader, and distracting to the eyes of probably most of the
  other readers.
- even omit all other namespace references, and put this information
into a title attribute. That is, instead of writing
::com::sun::star::beans::XPropertyState, I just wrote XPropertyState, which
is still linked, and displays ::com::sun::star::beans::XPropertyState
when hovering it with the mouse.
Reasoning: Again, I'd claim that the namespace information is not *that*
interesting for most (though certainly for some) readers that *all* readers
should be bothered with it. Instead, the main and most important information
is the mere type name, which is all which should be displayed by default.
Whoever is interested in more details of this type (and cannot deduce it
from the context), can easily click the link, or simply hover it, to
  get this additional information.

Note that so far, what I suggest here is pretty consistent with what for
instance the Java online document does - there, you rarely find fully qualified
types, except in the initial inheritance diagrams.

A third thing I did in the second document will be covered by a separate issue,
since I in fact consider it a bug, not a missing feature.

Now, if you (hopefully :) agree that the second version is more accessible than
the first one, consider
http://dba.openoffice.org/test/DataSource_new_new.html#Settings. I did an
additional relaxation there:
- Instead of writing PropertyAttribute::REMOVEABLE (where both
PropertyAttribute and REMOVEABLE are linked), I only write REMOVEABLE,
  with the tooltip being
  ::com::sun::star::beans::PropertyAttribute.REMOVEABLE.
That is, for all members of enumerations and constants groups, I omitted
the name of the enumeration/group, and only showed the member name.
Reasoning: In a lot of cases where I use such links to such members,
the enclosing name is irrelevant, since it can be obtained from the context.
  That is, a sentence like
The property must not have the TRANSIENT attribute.
  it's completely superfluous to write
The property must not have the PropertyAttribute::TRANSIENT attribute.
This is writing the same thing (attribute of a property) twice.
It might be that this change is not a good idea in general, but I think,
usually it *is*. So, I suggest to either let autodoc do this by default,
or to at least provide the writer of the documentation the possibility to
force autodoc to do it for a given entity.

To make the above long story short :)

I suggest omitting all unnecessary namespace and identifier information in the
generated IDL reference. They're distracting, flow-breaking, of secondary
interest for most readers, sometimes even completely superfluous, and repelling
for a certain class of less technical readers.

In an IDL file, consider a documentation fragment like the following.
some codetext/code.

Passing this through autodoc generates a HTML file with the following fragment:
  some codetext /code.
Note there's an additional space before the closing HTML tag.

This holds for *all* HTML entities in the documentation, which leads to a lot of
spurious spaces in the resulting HTML document.
In the example above, this means that there would be a space before the period,
which looks irritating (not only because it's grammatically wrong).

Other occurances of this problem are in documentation like
... foo bar typeType/type's properties ...
  which results in
... foo bar typeType /type's properties ...
Cp., for example,
http://api.openoffice.org/docs/common/ref/com/sun/star/mail/XMailMessage.html,
and the short description for the getAttachments method, which suffers from
this problem.

Both (and more) flavours of the problem occur multiple times in all our IDL
documentation, and at least to me they look somewhat unprofessional, and break
the flow of reading.

Just because I have easier access to MySQL than to PostgreSQL at the moment, for
reproducing this with MySQL:
- on a DB server of your choice, create a table with
  CREATE TABLE `server_default` (
`ID` Integer NOT NULL AUTO_INCREMENT PRIMARY KEY,
`text` VARCHAR(50),
`text_with_default` VARCHAR(50) NOT NULL DEFAULT 'default'
  )
- create a form for this table, containing input fields for all three columns
- open this form for data entry
- go to a new record
- insert some value into the text field
- try to save the record
= an error message pops up saying that text_with_default requires an input,
which is not true ...

When feeding to OOo an ODF document as flat xml and this flat xml file contains
embedded objects, these objects are not considered unless they have in the
office:document ... root element an office:mimetype attribute that matches the
old patter application/x-vnd.oasis.openoffice.* or
application/vnd.oasis.openoffice.*. It is easy to work this around by setting
the mimetype to what xmloff will expect, but such a flat xml file might not be
accepted by other applications implementing ODF.
A quick grep through xmloff shows:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~/ooo/SRC680_m218/xmloff grep vnd.oasis.openoffice. `find
./`
./source/core/XMLEmbeddedObjectImportContext.cxx: OUString aTmp(
RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(application/vnd.oasis.openoffice.) );
./source/core/XMLEmbeddedObjectImportContext.cxx: aTmp =
OUString( RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(application/x-vnd.oasis.openoffice.) );
./source/core/xmlexp.cxx: OUString aTmp(
RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(application/x-vnd.oasis.openoffice.) );
./source/transform/DocumentTContext.cxx:OUString aTmp(
RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(application/vnd.oasis.openoffice.) );
./source/transform/DocumentTContext.cxx:aTmp =
OUString( RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(application/x-vnd.oasis.openoffice.) );
./source/transform/OOo2Oasis.cxx: OUString
sMime(RTL_CONSTASCII_USTRINGPARAM(application/x-vnd.oasis.openoffice.) );

I understand that it might be good to keep these old mimetypes recognized, but
it would be also good and conform to the specifications to have the right
mimetypes that match either of application/vnd.oasis.opendocument.* or
application/x-vnd.oasis.opendocument.* patterns. In the same token a flat xml
that is received by an application using css.comp.Component.XMLOasisExporter
should contain the right mimetype.

This issue was reported before (76578) but closed.

The problem seems not to be fixed. Writer still crashes when trying to Insert |
special character and to scroll down the table of characters. I tried under
Debian (OOo 2.2.1, German) and OpenSuse 10.2, German and with the official
packages. I have also seen it happen in Kubuntu 7.04. Writer crashes reliably
when i do that:

1. Open a text document
2. Choose: Insert | Special Character (= Einfügen | Sonderzeichen in German)
3. Choose a (Truetype-?) font with a _lot_ of characters (as Times New Roman,
Arial or FreeSans from the debian-package ttf-freefont)
4. Scroll down the table with the characters
5. Writer crashes, usually before I get down to the last characters of the font

The problem is not limited to the msttcorefonts. The solution suggested in issue
76578 would be, to set the locales to en_US. But that's not a sensible solution
for everybody and it didn't work for me anyway. And even if there was a problem
with the locales, OOo shouldn't just crash silently.

The problem seems to be limited to the linux version 2.2.0 and up. OOo 2.1 on
linux works just fine. On Windows there is no problem at all.

When I start OOo from the command line it get the following messages several
times before I start the actions described above:

(process:5798): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **:
/tmp/buildd/glib2.0-2.12.12/gobject/gtype.c:2242: initialization assertion
failed, use IA__g_type_init() prior to this function

(process:5798): Gdk-CRITICAL **: gdk_screen_get_font_options: assertion
`GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed

There is no message at all when OOo is crashing or immediately before.

Regards
Martin

[porting-issues] [Issue 77591] Mac OS X address book inte gration

If you apply the patches and the tarball, to integrate the address book:

1) Select file-Wizards-Address Data Source...
2) You should see an option called Mac OS X Address Book - select it and click
Next.
3) If you have any groups in your address book, you'll see a screen for
selecting your main table with Address Book followed by all of your groups. I
usually select Address Book.
4) Rename the data source if you want to, and click Finish.
5) View your data sources. You can do this in many ways: press F4, click on the
Data Sources icon in the toolbar, or select: View-Data Sources.

Now, you should see the address book as the data source you just added. (For me,
the aqua build opens it automatically, while the X11 build only shows the data
source's name (Addresses, unless you renamed it in step 4), and you have to
expand it, and then expand Tables to see the available tables in the data
source, including Address Book, and all of your groups.)

There is a bug in the outline numbering window.

Reproduction:
1. Start Writer
2. Open the Style and Formatting Window by pressing F11.
3. Right click on Heading 1 and click new.
4. In the new window click ok. Now you should have a new Style and
Formatting called untitled 1.
5. Select Tools -- Outline Numbering
6. For Level 1 set the Paragraph Style to untitled 1 and the number to
1,2,3, ... and click ok.
7. Now again select Tools -- Outline Numbering. You should now see that the
numbering was saved, but the paragraph style is set incorrectly to none.

Thank you for the quick answer first of all.

I let OOo send a crash report using the same build you did on OpenSuse 10.2. I
used FreeSans from the OpenSuse freefont package. The crash happens with Arial,
Times New Roman FreeSerif as well. I had to scroll down all the way and a bit up
again, so it seemed better at first. But then it happend again.

It took me several crashes for the report program to start though. I something
useful arrived.

Best regards
Martin

[dba-issues] [Issue 78987] Can't insert records with NOT NULL fields with DEFAULT values

This is fixed in that it allows you to override the default behaviour (which is
unchaned) on a per-database and a per-(logical-)form basis.

That is, when an FormController (which is the instance raising the message box)
is going to do the NULL but required checks, it beforehand checks it's logical
form whether it has a property FormsCheckRequiredFields (more below). If this
property is not present, the Settings of the DataSource which the form belongs
to (more precise: which was used to create the connection of the form) is
examined for this property. It is always present, and defaulted to TRUE.

Well, leaving out some of the technical stuff:
  Dim bValue as Boolean
  bValue = FALSE
  oForm.addProperty( FormsCheckRequiredFields, 0, bValue )
will disable the checks per a logical form oForm. If you save the form
document afterwards, the new property will be made persistent.

  Dim oDataSource as Object
  oDataSource = createUnoService( com.sun.star.sdb.DatabaseContext ). _
getByName( ... )

  Dim bValue as Boolean
  bValue = FALSE
  oDataSource.Settings.setPropertyValue( FormsCheckRequiredFields, _
bValue )
will disable the checks for all forms for this database document. You still need
to save the database document to make the setting persistent.

(Note: The latter macro does not work :). I still need to investigate how to set
boolean properties in Basic, the above will silently use a byte value for
bValue, instead of a boolean one.)

By chance, I was just extending the documentation of the FormController service
...
Look at http://dba.openoffice.org/test/FormController.html, note the following
in the Responsibilities paragraph:
- There's a space between UnoControlController and the succeeding , (a
  type tag)
- There's a space between NOT NULL and the succeeding , (a code tag)
- There's a space between the NULL and the succeeding , (a NULL/ tag)
- There's a space with a subtly wrong width after the word
FormsCheckRequiredFields - which is because this word is displayed in a
different font, as is the autodoc-generated space after it, which doesn't
  belong there.
- There is a space between FormController and the succeeding 's
  (a code tag)
- There's a space after the second occurance of FormsCheckRequiredFields,
before the succeeding closing bracket (again a code tag).
- two times, there's a space between a false and the succeeding period .
  (both times, it's a FALSE/ tag).

All those occurances together make the text incorrect (as far as written English
is concerned), and look ugly.

No, I didn't try to create an extreme example of this bug. I just wrote some
documentation, and found myself with an autodoc-uglified result which I think
looks unnecessarily unprofessional.

Because I cannot switch to a UI other than Default, I'm unable to
switch to the Swedish UI!
.
The problem has been recreated on both Windows XP Home Edition and
on Windows Server 2003, using the OpenOffice.org Writer application.
.
The problem has been recreated using the following packages, referred
to as a), b) and c):
a) OOo_2.2.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe from
http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/stable/2.2.1/
b) OOo_2.2.0_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_sv.exe from
http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/localized/sv/2.2.0/
c) OOo_2.2.0_Win32Intel_langpack_sv.exe från
http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/localized/sv/2.2.0/
.
The packages a), b) and c) has been used in different combinations.
After each combination was tested, it was removed using:
1. A complete uninstall using the Control Panel's uninstall applet
2. Deletion of the OpenOffice.org2 folders inside the
C:\Documents and Settings folder tree.
3. Deletion of all keys named OpenOffice in the registry.
_
I began my research on a US English version of Windows Server 2003,
installed on a standard desktop PC.
First, I installed a) only.
Problem recreation:
1. select menu - Tools-
Options...-
Language Settings-
Languages-
Language of - User interface-
and change UI from Default to English (USA).
2. Close the menu and reopen to confirm that the change is still there.
3. Exit OOo including QuickStart and then restart OOo Writer.
4. Open the menu setting and the UI is once again Default.
.
Second, after removing a) using the methods described above, I
installed b) only.
I recreated the problem exactly like in a), only this time I tried
switching from Default to Swedish (Sweden).
(in swedish: from Standard to Svenska (Sverige))
.
Third, after removing b) using the methods described above, I
installed first a), and then c) on top of it.
Problem recreation:
1. select menu - Tools-
Options...-
Language Settings-
Languages-
Language of - User interface-
and change UI from Default to Swedish (Sweden).
2. Close the menu and reopen to confirm that the change is still there.
3. Exit OOo including QuickStart and then restart OOo Writer.
4. Open the menu setting and the UI is once again Default.
Note that THE HELP STATES THE FOLLOWING: The default entry applies to
the locale setting that was selected for the operating system.
Now that's complete nonsense, since every single setting in my
operating system is indeed set to Swedish and/or Sweden,
but the OOo Writer UI still persiverses to English (USA).
_
At this point it could well be argued, that the reason I couldn't switch
the UI to anything other than Default was, in the case of a) and b)
alone, somehow a design issue, since there was no secondary language,
and in the case of a) and c) on top of it, an incompatibility issue
since a) is version 2.2.1 and c) is 2.2.0 ...
.
So i decided to take the experiment one step further by using
a laptop with the SWEDISH version of Windows XP Home Edition installed.
Again, I installed first a), and then c) on top of it.
There was an IMMEDIATE difference: the UI was SWEDISH.
I opened the menu setting and the UI selection was Default(or in native
swedish: Standard). I tried switching to English (USA), but
the previous problem was exposed EXACTLY like in ALL the other
installations: it's IMPOSSIBLE to switch to a UI other than Default!
.
Only THIS TIME, I could ADD a problem: it would seem that the Help
should RATHER state THE FOLLOWING: The default entry applies to
the LANGUAGE VERSION OF the operating system.

So please, take the time to review the changes, I'll be happy to work with you

Please uninstall all components, than re-install without mixing different
versions: In order to have a multi-language UI, please install first the normal
(i.e. English) OOo from download.openoffice.org, than the langpack of the last
RC of the same version, which you may obtain from
ftp://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/openoffice/extended/ (in case of OOo 2.2.1 it's
2.2.1rc3). Be sure to install only the langpack for your operating system on top
of the English version, not a full localized version. For further assistance,
please refer to the users mailing list of the corresponding project; in your
case see
http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Sv.openoffice.org/E-postlistor

Please report here if your problem still persists after having done that.

yes, in fact, in my second post, I've write that on Archlinux (for example)
I've not this problem and I will fill a bug report on the ubuntu launchpad (=
the ubuntu tracking system).

P.S: mbayer, the italian localization use the string ? for identifying
the help menu.

P.P.S: I leave this bug to the unconfirmed status, when on the ubuntu
launchpad the problem will be confirmed (and I hope it will fixed) I'll set
this issue to the fixed status (if this is a problem of the ubuntu packages).

Hello
now I got an ID for a crash report: rhvyvc
I hope it helps. I still get crashes but it seems to take a bit longer
sometimes. I just had to scroll three times up and down (using the mouse wheel).
I tried some more fonts, and most work fine. To me it seems the problem is
related to the size of the font. FreeMono is fine though. FreeSans, FreeSerif,
Arial, Times New Roman crash.
Thanks
Martin

When running testtool and running OpenOffice 2.2.1 tests, the Aqua version was
selected instead. This may be due to the Aqua version appearing as 2.2.1 or
even 2.2 instead of 2.3. However, a look at the info.plist shows that the
program is identifying itself as OpenOffice.org 2.3.0. However, the
bundleSignature appears to be OOo2 and I think the Aqua version should be
different. The version for 2.2.1 appears to be OpenOffice.org 2.2 and the
CFBundleSignature is OOo2. This may be confusing testtool when it goes to look
for the program and is picking the Aqua version vice the X11 2.2.1 version. Any
ideas on how to further troubleshoot and isolate this problem would be
appreciated as this breaks automated testing on my system.

Regardless of whether it's a general OOo problem, this continues to be a
problem for many users. Hardly a day goes by without at least one more report of
the same issue on the users mail list. As far as I know, the issue only applies
to the OOo_2.2.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US package. The without JRE is OK.

I really appreciate the quick answer, thanks.
The following is an account of my measures after reading your answer:
.
1. A complete uninstall using the Control Panel's uninstall applet
2. Deletion of the OpenOffice.org2 folders inside the
C:\Documents and Settings folder tree.
3. Deletion of all keys named OpenOffice in the registry.
.
Installed the normal(i.e. English) OOo from download.openoffice.org,
(I downloaded it again, just to make sure)
which is identical to a) above, i.e.
a) OOo_2.2.1_Win32Intel_install_wJRE_en-US.exe from
http://ftp.services.openoffice.org/pub/OpenOffice.org/stable/2.2.1/
.
Armed with my newfound knowledge about Linguistic.xcu in C:\Documents and
Settings\Administrator\Application Data\OpenOffice.org2
\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\
I decided to TEST how the normal(i.e. English) OOo from download.openoffice.org
behaves ON ITS OWN...
.
...and I was able to RECREATE the problem smoothly!
This is what Linguistic.xcu looks like at THE FIRST START:

 node oor:name=General
  prop oor:name=DefaultLocale oor:type=xs:string
   valuesv-SE/value
  /prop
 /node
/oor:component-data
_
And this is what Linguistic.xcu looks like after I've opened the
menu - Tools-Options...-Language Settings-Languages section and
hit the OK button to have OOo update the Linguistic.xcu with the DEFAULT
language settings ...

I'm thinking that testtool only launches ooo by the path and filename. A single
property. Thus these other
things that you mention, probably don't have any effect. Have you installed ooo
aqua into the applications
folder overwriting ooo X11, without realising?

Attached macaddressbook01_macab_driver.patch should anyone desire to build Omer
Bar-or's code with any of the OOo 2.2.1 release tags with either gcc 4.0.1 or
3.3. The only change in this patch is to enclose all Carbon.h and AddressBook.h
includes with premac.h and postmac.h includes to avoid colliding typedefs for
the TimeValue data type in Carbon.h and within the sal module's include files.

@smsm1: No, the Aqua version was installed as OpenOffice.org 2.3. The
directory being called by testtool from the non-admin user was
/Applications/OpenOffice.org 2.2.app/Contents/MacOS. This directory changed to
/Applications/OpenOffice.org 2.2.app/Contents/MacOS/program. I did not change
this setting.

In xmloff/inc/txtimppr.hxx, I used include style, because of the other
include statement there. But it
would probably be better to use one include style for public headers across the
project...

I, too, have the same requirement. I need to query two different databases for
composite data. One table resides in an MSAccess file, the other via an ODBC
connection to an Informix table. While I can access each individually via
OOBase, I can not access both of them via one query due to only being able to
work with one DB at a time. With MSAccess, it's easy. I would like to see OOBase
with the same functionality, please.
