To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=84358 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Dec 12 08:19:36 + 2007 --- Seems that I created some confusion here, so again: 1) It may be _me_ only, who thinks that the multiple profile support makes most sense if supporting a reasonable dialog for their management. IMHO, this is an end-user feature, everybody else can easily write a script to patch their bootstraprcs(.ini) etc., only end-users have a problem with that. 2) If we are going to change the entry defining the UserInstallation variable to be resolved wrt just another rc file, e.g. in the users home (~/.sversionrc), than we may just want to clean this up and refer to the original entry in the configmgrrc, this may safe some cycles while boostrapping. But, as I have basically no stake in this, I leave it to you, to resolve this issue (w/ or w/o a dialog etc. ;-) You may want to keep in mind, that multi profile support can become a support issue. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=84484 Issue #|84484 Summary|Under CentOS 5.1, OOo 2.3.1 is older than 1:2.0.4 Component|framework Version|OOo 2.3.1 RC1 Platform|PC URL| OS/Version|Linux Status|UNCONFIRMED Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|tm Reported by|mhrichter --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Dec 12 09:27:50 + 2007 --- This isn't really a defect, but I don't think it's really either an enhancement, a feature or even a patch (is it?). With CentOS release 5.1, the newest version of OOo is 2.0.4, listed as 1:2.0.4 and the architecture is x86_64 (same as mine). OOo releases 2.3.0 and 2.3.1 are technically newer, although there is no link I could find to download the x86_64 RPMs for these, so I'm using the standard Linux 32-bit downloads. However, every time I run yum to catch a CentOS update, it wants to pull down all the OOo packages from the newer 2.0.4 release, which is a major regression for me/2.3.1. I pulled down 2.3.0 originally because there was a bug fixed in it that I really like, and the newer interfaces are way better. I don't really want to go back, but the updates are a pain. Is there a solution for this (like an epoch 1 release of OOo 2.3.1, or a 64-bit set of RPMs with an epoch 1 release)? Please advise and/or provide. I've tested StarOffice and OpenOffice vanilla builds both on m238 and m239 on Windows and StarOffice m239 on Linux. Running a test program from a library containing two modules worked without problems in all tested ver- sions. Starting the Wizard Document Converter (also a Library with more than one module) failed in m238 but without crash (only a Basic exception error occurs). I was told that there was a problem with comphelper being incompatible in m238. As the problem is com- pletely gone in m239 I assume a m238 build problem. I don't know which build you refer to with from Pavel, but maybe this build also is affected by the incompatibility problem. Please check again in m239. In the CUPS case the PPD comes (well, is supposed to come) from the CUPS server anyway, so I'm not sure why you want that patch. With the second patch effectively you say that a downloaded Times (or Helvetica or Courier) font is better than the printer builtin font; that seems doubtful, moreover it will increase the print job size for a pure text doc dramatically. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [framework-issues] [Issue 83863] UnoRuntime.generateOID() r eturns different OIDs for the same object
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=83863 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Dec 12 10:48:04 + 2007 --- Whether or not the internal object is the same is an implementation detail unknown (and irrelevant) to users of the UNO interface (The whole point of having an interface is to insulate against implementation details). The justification for using generateOID()/areSame() instead of hashCode()/equals() is that proxies can change. This is documented. The UnoRuntime methods exist to deal with this. But while it's documented that you can get different proxies to the same object, nowhere have I seen it documented that the objects themselves can change identity without being touched (in the extreme case even in a read-only document). Fact is that from the outside the image is always the same. It's never modified during the test. An outside observer has every right to expect that it will keep its ID. I claim that every single user of the UNO interface outside of the inner circle of developers actually working on and aware of the internals of OOo will expect my test case to create constant OIDs. The documentation says: The methods generateOid, queryInterface and areSame delegate calls to the implementing objects and are used instead of hashCode, casts, instanceof, ==, and equals [generateOID()] Generates a world wide unique object identifier (OID) for the given object. It is guaranteed that subsequent calls to this method with the same object will give the same ID. I think there can be no argument about what this means. If generateOID() cannot be used as a reliable replacement for hashCode() it violates the above interface description (which is what UNO developers work from) and loses its usefulness. If you cannot make it work as specified, it would be better to have it throw a RuntimeException in cases where the OID has been lost than to silently return inconsistent results. This will at least fail fast and alert application developers of the problem and save them a long an tedious bug hunt to find the reason for strange and inconsistent behaviour of their application. But I think it must be possible to fulfill the contract. After all, the image is not changed. Assuming that OOo's internal memory management does not perform defragmentations or something like this, it's probably stored at the same memory location all the time. So that could be used to generate an OID. Alternatively a unique ID could be generated on allocation and attached to the data structure holding the object data. That would survive even moves within memory. For objects that have a unique name already (like images), the OID could be generated based on that. This would mean that renaming the image would change the OID, which is still unexpected IMHO, but preferable to the current situation. At least it's a transparent behaviour that can handled by implementors (if properly documented). Unfortunately this does not work for general shapes since their names are optional and non-unique. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. [sw-issues] [Issue 84376] No Line break possible bet ween a word and dots having non-breaking space in between
To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=84376 --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Dec 12 10:45:46 + 2007 --- Thanks for trying, and having tried, to do the right thing. The problem is that a construction like, I thought . . . somehow can't be broken for thirteen characters, which can leave a very ragged right margin. AFAIK, the four-dot ellipsis is always terminal punctuation for a paragraph, so the ragged margin on the next-to-last line isn't really a problem; however, the three-dot ellipsis can occur right in the middle of the word flow. I suggest that finer discrimination among punctuation is required. For instance, opening quotes (double and single), apostrophes, and the Spanish inverted question-mark are all punctuation that regularly appear at the start of a line. (BTW, em-dash is eligible for line-break-before, and hence can appear at the start of a line, in 2.3.1 and previous versions; I use enough of those to know. I haven't checked out the en-dash, with or without spaces around it.) The deciding factor seems to be the presence of a space before the punctuation; typically, from the end of the previous sentence or paragraph. Punctuation so delimited may start a line, and the ellipsis qualifies under this rule. W/r/t MS Word's behavior, we don't want to create conversion problems, but we won't be able to please everyone, no matter what we do. For those who crave Ms-like formatting behavior for an ellipsis, it is almost trivial to prevent a line-break, by replacing the leading, ordinary space with a non-breaking space. This will survive back-and-forth conversions, too. For the rest of us, the problem is much harder. Forcing an optional line-break would require something like a soft space of zero width, analogous to a soft hyphen. (If we have such a thing, it isn't on the Insert Formatting Mark menu; if we don't, do we really need one?) It seems a little silly, to use it with a perfectly good, ordinary, breaking space right there, but . . . . /tj - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker. To comment on the following update, log in, then open the issue: http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=84487 Issue #|84487 Summary|Dialog width unexpectedly increments itself Component|scripting Version|OOo 2.3.1 RC1 Platform|All URL| OS/Version|All Status|NEW Status whiteboard| Keywords| Resolution| Issue type|DEFECT Priority|P3 Subcomponent|code Assigned to|kr Reported by|silvercapo --- Additional comments from [EMAIL PROTECTED] Wed Dec 12 11:39:37 + 2007 --- On OOo 2.3.1 release (not RC1) running on WinXP, in the Dialog Editor when editing a dialog, found that if you change any of the positional / dimensional properties of the dialog (height, width, positionX, positionY), the width automatically and unexpectly increments itself by 3. (This doesn't happen if you change any of the other non-positional/dimensional properties) STEPS TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM: 1. Open any OOo application, and bring up the Basic IDE, and insert a new dialog Dialog1 2. Double-click on the edge of the dialog window being designed to bring up its properties (Properties: Dialog) window 3. Type in any new numeric value for any of Height, Width, PositionX, or PositionY. (You will need to navigate click outside the textbox for the new value to be accepted, such that the dialog shown is refreshed/resized) 4. Observe that Width now also increments by 3 automatically. WORKAROUND By manually setting the width to be 3 pixels less than what you need after editing any positional/dimensional properties. - Please do not reply to this automatically generated notification from Issue Tracker.
